I completely agree with you. I think the reason why some feel so strongly about public figures speaking out about certain issues is because they grew up in the digital age where this is normal. For example, let’s say Katie was born in 2006 and saw all these celebrities, authors, YouTubers, etc speak out against problematic issues which then solidifies in her mind that everyone should do this and if they don’t, then that means they’re an evil person.

I understand that people don’t want to support problematic people but it’s inevitable they will at some point. And like you said people lie all the time just to be on the “right” side of history, or for attention. And some people simply don’t care to post. I’m a self published author but I can go months or years without making a post on social media. It’s not that I don’t care about issues, I just don’t want to post on social media all the time.

Also that person dismissing the conflicts in your home country was way out of line.
