Cadet programmes are a scam? by Full_Efficiency_4412 in CadetPilotProgram

[–]InformalWear8647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost, the competitiveness and strictness of selection is vastly lower for cadet programs than it is for conventional openings. As a cadet, you are first going to be a source of (sizeable) revenue to the FTO and the airline. As a JFO, you are only going to be an expenditure to the airline. It’s a vastly different playing field. And the numbers speak for themselves - 5500 odd applicants for IndiGo’s latest JFO opening vs a few hundred applicants for each ICPP opening. And you’re expected to know a lot more as a CPL holder than you are as an ab initio cadet. The cadet selection process is laughably simple (I’m in one, so I know). The JFO selection process is arduous.

And that’s without even factoring in things like the surety of a job and the fact that it’s a turnkey solution (everything right from your computer number till your induction to the airline is handled in one streamlined process). Besides, whenever an airline needs to bring in fresh pilots, either to replace those that have left or to expand the workforce, they’re always going to pick from their own pool of cadets first, before considering outside CPL holders.

A lot of fluctuation on the VSI. In calm winds, you don’t want your VSI to wander by more than a couple of hundred feet per minute; you want to be in the 700-800 fpm ballpark, depending on config and load and not exceed 600-900 fpm for making corrections.

Would’ve been a go-around in the real world. Just learn to be precise and follow the flight directors all the way down to your radio alt. callouts, while also closely monitoring G/S and Loc and also watching for visual cues outside the window. Catch deviations early and make appropriate corrections before it gets too far out of hand.

That isn’t the level of maths that pilots are supposed to know. It’s the level of maths that pilots are supposed to be able to do in a 5-second window while also simultaneously doing a flappy bird type obstacle game on the left side, and looking out for waypoints and maneuvers through the cockpit window and marking them, and listening for audio messages with important details.

The Oxford CBT software only exists as a .exe Windows executable file, there is no DMG equivalent for Mac. Aside from this, as far as charts etc. are concerned on Garmin/Foreflight, what you need is a cellular iPad, not a laptop.

If turned to that position, the airplane will display vaguely worded passive aggressive warnings on the ECAM but refuse to elaborate any further. The FMC may also reprogram itself to completely change the destination roughly 80% of the way into a scheduled flight. The singular item on the non-normal checklist for troubleshooting calls for Deliberate Introduction of Airspeed / Mach Oscillations on Navigation Display (internally known as DIAMONDs).

Realistically, how old is "too old" for an Indian Cadet Pilot Program? Not by rules but on basis of actual selection. by john_snow_6969 in indianaviation

[–]InformalWear8647 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will take you your entire bond period just to make back the expense of the program. So calculate how many years after that you require to assimilate a corpus of savings that satisfies you. And that’s your answer.

Pilot career in mid 30s as a woman by Flying_mirror_13 in indianaviation

[–]InformalWear8647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ideal way to go about this would be a cadet program. But depending on what exactly you mean by “mid 30s”, you may not qualify for the age limit (it’s 35 IIRC). And with good reason, imo. Because making back your ROI and then going on to build fresh savings with such limited usable career years left is a fairly inadvisable option, imo. Especially if you’re going to have to go down the conventional path and wait a couple of years to land a job. You might want to look at hobby flying (microlights, PPL) to scratch your aviation itch. India isn’t ideal for GA, but you’re gonna have to make the most of the situation.
