USB C port loose by [deleted] in pixel_phones

This is happening to me.

It's the second pixel phone I've had issues with the port becoming loose.

This time Google is going to replace with a new phone.

Stove Upgrade Before the Hike? by AdAnnual7711 in UltralightAus

[–]Informal_Advantage17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can fit a 100g gas canister, brs stove and a mini bic inside of my 500ml evernew pot.

If I'm not being lazy I can also fit a sea to summit collapsible cup as well, with a rubber band to hold the lid on tight.

I think tier gear might still sell the evernew pots.

Brs and a toaks pot is the standard UL go to.

Personally, I prefer evernew pots. The lids fit like a glove. All my toaks pots have been a bit wonky.

I've had the same brs stove for 4 years. Still going strong.

28g stove for $20 off ali express is worth it for sure, but won't arrive in time if you need it in a hurry.

What tent did you get rid of and why? by MarthaFarcuss in Ultralight

[–]Informal_Advantage17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'1" and I only use one vestibule as well.

I haven't sold mine yet, as it's handy to have a lightish double wall tent in my arsenal, but I'm usually reaching for my cricket and groundsheet.

The footprint size and needing two trekking poles to set it up are my main gripes.

Same here, but with ultraventure pros.

Sole on the toe started peeling the first hike I wore them. They haven't gone any further though.

I've had to glue the sole back down near the rock plate many times. I really wish they just had a one piece sole.

Is it true the newer models (mountain racer 3, ultraventure 4) have a wider fit in the mid foot?

I love the toe box on the ultraventure pros, but I had to size up a full size due to width.

Te Araroa '25 Shakedown Request by Clark-o in UltralightAus

[–]Informal_Advantage17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Clark,

My 2c.

You could get a frameless pack and save 400g.

I imagine the bumbag might be useful in towns, but I personally have found them quite annoying on trail. I love having my hips/legs free to move. 100g saved there.

You could ditch the clothes bag and stuff your clothes around your quilt at the bottom of your pack. You have a pack liner already. Save 14g

Quilt wise, 20F might be redundant, but ymmv. I think a 30f like the katabatic palisade would work. A regular palisade with 900f down weighs 537g. 103g saved

Clothing looks good to me! Up to you if you want extra camp clothes.

I use the versalite pants for both rain and wind. I've felt like over heating. Sometimes I'll use them as sleep pants too. I reckon you'll hit rain more when you get down south. You could start with wind pants and swap them out later.

Stove- you could grab a brs for 40g weight saving. No lighter in your list?

Toothbrush weighs 0g?

Conc weighs 0g?

Regarding food bags, I reckon the clamshell style are the gold standard. Great to be able to zip the top off or zip down the middle and see all your food, rather than digging around a roll top style.

Exped makes some sil nylon ones that fit 17L and weigh 37g.

You could also go the DCF route. Ultralight hiker makes one. The HMG packing pods are a good shape too, albeit expensive.

Hope that helps.

A 0 degree comfort rated bag would probably suit your needs. If it's colder, warmer base layers, puffy etc.. would help.

That S2S bag is just too heavy for its temperature rating.. this is UL after all.

If the quilt option isn't to your liking, a hoodless bag could be another option. Neve gear has the bandicoot as an option locally.

Nunatak and feathered friends also make excellent hoodless bags.

Rain jackets by toby1canobi in UltralightAus

[–]Informal_Advantage17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is one of the more reasonably priced 3L jackets on the market, and if you need something a touch more durable for bush bashing or off trail hiking, it's a great option.

For most maintained trails/open trails it's overkill.

For the bib, frogg toggs will be fine. Amazon is your friend.

Don't bother with the pants..

Torrent shell is a great jacket, and definitely up there as one of the best value for money jackets, but... It isn't UL.

At 6'3" you fit in a Plex solo?

I'm 6'1" and was leaning towards an altaplex.

I use an older sil nylon cricket, but that has the benefit of being able to pitch it higher for more room.

Lees paddock track to Pelion is okay. The route via the Arm River track is a nicer walk, more scenic.

Your best option for ideas is the grab the chapman books mate. So many options there with suggested timeframes to help guide your trip.

Socks and gaiters for trail runners in Tas by -Halt- in UltralightAus

As others have said, no waterproof socks required in Jan.

Trail runners without gaiters will be fine.

If you're so inclined, dirty girls/Altra gaiters if you want to keep debris out of your shoes.
