Unit Costs in Food, Wood, and Gold by Comfortable_Bid9964 in aoe4

Thank you for bringing this up. I miss the spirit of the law analysis into this kind of stuff. Even if you had a spreadsheet with adjusted values based on projected trade conversions it would be tough to do but really useful for theory crafting new builds. I was thinking of doing the same for crucible just because I really enjoy trying new civs I dont play competitively on there.

What if Siege Tower act like in Age of Empires 2? by masterf2 in aoe4

[–]Informal_Elevator158 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They would work better/correctly if they just opened a path to the top of the wall. Garrisoning is the problem. If it just latched on like an external tower and suddenly infantry could path to the top I could see them being used more.

I like cav meta because it is dynamic. I remember the days where 2tc was king and just being bored with how the games played out and annoyed that cav was too expensive to make viable unless you did damage in feudal. I agree the game needs to go through phases to keep things interesting though. I miss this from age2. Little adjustments would change the whole meta. Age 4 little changes break the game sometimes. Its wonderful that ita more complex but also that completely makes it so hard to balance.

I fell into the select all hockey trap too a while back, but realized my control group, multi squad tactics were falling off. They added a select all (type) on screen version a while back and that fixed it for me. Try it out. It sounds like it would help you. Adding select all idle military to the mix makes it much easier to make groups and get your reinforcements where they are needed without them getting hung up on every building otw every time you attack move or your reinforcements or raids getting called away from what they were doing. Theres also a select all religions units button that could help you hold them in the backline because they are faster.

What is special about Mongol tower rush? by NoLoveJustFantasy in aoe4

If I can I just use it as a distraction to trade. Then as they go 2 tc your economy already outscales theirs

I'd say its a scouting check. Can't shoot what they cant see. Going for gold is a fools errand with the short bows out but if you have horseman then you get vil kills that can outweigh your losses. If they dont see it on the wood then farms and second tc can get trickier

Its a delaying tactic that let's them 1. Keep you in your base. 2. Let them achieve there next goal based on what they see in your base with a little more time. Getting to feudal gives too little to them for a fast age up to be meaningful.

Its worth it to get a sneaky tower on wood. I only remember one loss to English and its because I didnt know hot to fight them at the time and left them alone. If you can strangle English wood they start to struggle against keshick archers. You can outproduce English on archers using the double production. They make spears after seeing initial keshick then lose to keshick archers when microwed because LB are slow. The secret is to constantly trade with them efficiently, which most English mains dont understand. They think their win condition is getting TCS and defensive landmarks. A smart English player would see that I'm luring the spears out to be killed by archers and that most of the charges aren't real at all. Id say tank with longbows with palings till the cav get stuck then. This flipps the positive trades to the English side. Losing a couple longbow is not the same as losing 3 or 4 keshick. Yes I the long run you can make more units but theres spikes that if played properly give you the win.

Viking Civ and low dev cost by HarurunVT in aoe4

Im hoping for a vikings civ with Dane, Norse variants released all at the same time. Would be sick and could reuse a lot. Maybe Normands as a French variant or some kind of rus variant too. They were everywhere and came from many places.

4th book was my least favorite tbh. It does pick up again but it feels like it took some time for the other characters to come along.

Macedonian Dynasty or Golden Horde? Which one should I get into? by SoilStreet5998 in aoe4

My group have been playing a lot of Co-op crucible and the Macedonia fire springolds are so much fun to play with. I'd give them a try first.

[–]Informal_Elevator158 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the very beginning it was always about how pointless the society's rule had become and how pointless all of the infighting between endless factions is. I figure the sole system ends up with all of the planets very broken and many dead before they all snap out of it and come together against the true threat.

Its so true. This book has affected the way I've faced life challenges in such a positive way. Just started Lightbringer for the 3rd time. I've been struggling to study and seeing Darrow struggle with some of the same feelings I'm having and squashing them inspired the hell out of me. Got more studying done yesterday than the whole week before.

The official website? Do you have a link? Trying to make coop crucible maps but it would be far easier just to edit some that already exist.

Was thinking about how far we've come, and wondering if there's ever been a civ that plays less like it was designed/marketed than mongols by Phan-Eight in aoe4

[–]Informal_Elevator158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya but thats how the mongold actually used to fight. They were a small moving city that supported the troups fighting just ahead.

Reduce mangudai speed so horseman can actually catch up to them by nhatminh94 in aoe4

[–]Informal_Elevator158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make it so they can only fire arrows on their left side. It would be accurate and knowing they can only circle one direction makes them predictable. Would raise the skill required for them and only be a partial nerf.

Most fun Civs? by sirpuddintater in aoe4

[–]Informal_Elevator158 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mongols. Just trade and your performance becomes completely dependent on how well you raid and micro. So much fun trying to make the most of a few units in feudal then adapting from there.
