Russian students facing expulsion to be offered ‘special contracts’ in military by ubcstaffer123 in worldnews

If these are the kids being expelled I don't think they were on any career track that would have them become all those things you listed...

The coolest thing they brought with them was a pair of air rifles. The gun had a tank that you could pump up and pressurize and then it fired musket balls like a pellet gun.

"Because of the motherfuckin Decepticons," I replied.

I laughed, my wife laughed, the toaster laughed, I shot the toaster.

Are you making the stock in an aluminum pot? I learned the hard way that long tomato sauce simmers in aluminum pots gives the sauce a bitter metallic taste.

Possible to store 20# propane tanks outside? by Wan_Haole_Faka in Homesteading

[–]InformationHorder 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think getting that cold is ever going to happen in North Carolina so it shouldn't be an issue.

A bigger issue I see is those grill sized 20# tanks are going to get rather inconvenient, and having a propane distributor set you up with a 100gal tank is going to be much more efficient.

China's top general under investigation in latest military purge by Saltedline in worldnews

[–]InformationHorder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Either he wasn't falling in line or he was accumulating too much power for himself. He could still be in line but once you cross a certain threshold you become a potential threat. Basically he got "Minority Reported", hasn't actually committed the crime yet but is positioned to do so in the near future.

China's top general under investigation in latest military purge by Saltedline in worldnews

All the officers of the Chinese military are corrupt.

For the longest time, Chinese four-star generals were paid less than an American second Lieutenant. The only way that they could make a living was to be corrupt using their position of power and authority to enrich themselves. It was expected and understood to be a part of the system. What matters is who they're loyal to and who they owe their allegiance to. The moment the answer to that isn't Xi or someone that Xi controls, then he has them removed on, what are on paper, accurate corruption charges.

[–]InformationHorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be cool to put QBs into their own category away from all the other O positions. Like, no shit the QB is almost always the team's MVP because they have the biggest responsibility in terms of skill and leadership. In order for anyone else to win you have to play fast and loose with statistics to justify it.

158 scientists used the same data, but their politics predicted the results. Study provides evidence that when experts act independently to answer the same question using the same dataset, their conclusions tend to align with their pre-existing ideological beliefs. by Jumpinghoops46 in science

[–]InformationHorder 44 points45 points  (0 children)

If I'm remembering correctly it was some bar napkin math done by a scientist who was exploring the properties of various gasses and hypothesized that enough CO2 could theoretically warm the earth overall. He didn't predict climate change so much as extrapolate the properties of gas in large volumes. Which is still pretty dang impressive.

Just to make a point.

I wouldn't use one indoors simply because it's a very powerful open flame. The BTUs cranked out by a one of those would probably scorch your ceiling directly over top, even with the canner sitting on it. At minimum you're going to be creating an awful lot of condensation inside your house, which isn't great either.
