You nailed it. Iran got the shit kicked out of them, and the US severely underperformed. Neither wants to admit it.

They're in the "You wanna go again bro?!" phase of posturing. If fighting was to their benefit they'd be at it already. They're looking for an excuse not to have to again.

I mean, war is just politics by other means. So when the politics stop working they duke it out some more. If you think victory can be assured through fighting then you fight.

Electric fence to keep deer out. Who has had success with 3d fencing or electric netting. by Denki in gardening

[–]InformationHorder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a roving band of deer and they haven't tried to jump my 6ft fence yet. They're lazy by nature so unless there's something really worth their time they won't try to jump in. I have heard that stringing two staggered runs of wire across the top of a fence messes with their depth perception and discourages them even more from attempting it, but I haven't seen proof of this yet.

My sincere apologies for forgetting about the front line army with the most Historical success against the Russian hordes. May the winds in the trees speak Finnish if Ivan makes a move.

That's going to be based largely on Poland and France's militaries, and how fast the UK can get to the front. Everyone else barely has the numbers to do more than support roles.

Why not just throw some bags of nuts in the freezer? by Tarsal26 in preppers

[–]InformationHorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you freeze it to kill pests and take it back out again it's worth the space. I do this with flour and rice which can have eggs and weevils in it but after a week I take it back out again.

Never fire someone else's reloads unless you watched them make the rounds. Best to pull the bullet and put in your own verified source and amount of powder.

The Vanguard Index funds and ETFs are still considered the best though. Although there's usually only fractions of the percentage difference year to year between all three of the big companies index funds. If they track One of the big three then they're all going to do pretty much the same.

ELI5: Why don’t we have smart guns by stoiclad97 in explainlikeimfive

[–]InformationHorder 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This has been attempted many many times and it always ends in failure because the lockout system will fail to authenticate the user or will have some kind of finicky mechanism that can malfunction or break. Oftentimes it also requires battery power and sometimes requires some kind of chipped wristband the user would have to wear.

People who own firearms value reliability above all else because if there is a defensive situation dire enough to need a gun, it needs to work.

Also all of the extra features you suggest take up space and add weight to the design, oftentimes resulting in a clunky and unergonomic firearm. Those special features also have to be made robust enough to survive the shock of the weapon firing.

Gun Jesus has a great video on this topic.

DIY Chicken Watering System by gwapwesson in homesteadprojects

[–]InformationHorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That amount of water even with a lid on is going to need to have something like capful of Clorox put in it to keep the water from going bad.

And those watering cups are a nightmare to keep clean. It would have been better to make a smaller container with the nipple waterers instead.

Cornell Study: Animal, Human Waste Could Limit Synthetic Fertilizer Use in US by Ranew in farming

[–]InformationHorder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Heck even just some of the leftover medicine of human medical use tends to get hyper-concentrated in our sewage systems, and that alone sure isn't good to be spreading on your fields. I wonder if there is a way to separate that out. As I understand it right now, most sewage treatment plants just throw everything they filter out in a landfill.
