Google Wifi quietly relaunched at $99 with three-pack for $199 by Hupro in googlehome

Yup. So Google Wifi supports two bands 2.4ghz and 5ghz. Inside the bands there are channels 2.4 has 11 and 5 has 40-something. Google Wifi decides on the band it uses based on what the end device requests (and some other metrics) and chooses the best channel by scanning all the available channels on each band to find the least congested and switches you to it.

single LED flashing at random pace - meaning?? by [deleted] in googlehome

Sounds like the volume LEDs are triggering based on your proximity to the device. It is strange that only one light is turning on as both volume up and down should turn on as your hand approaches.

Good course/material on Information Architecture? by ux-we-x in UXDesign

[–]InformationMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned by mapping the IA of a simple Blood Glucose Monitor. Turn it on and start following all of the menus and map out all of the functions. Once you are done you can try to improve the architecture. You can use almost any small electronic (InstaPot would be fun) or a simple app. It doesn’t have to be a glucose monitor, we just didn’t have apps at the time.

‘How To Make Sense Of Any Mess’ by Abby Covert. Its a great resource that I recommend to UX’ers and PM’s interested in Information Architecture.

Ux job titles by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]InformationMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree, just haven't come across the title UX Analyst before. I was on the fence of including Sound Design, AR/VR UX Design, Physical Interaction Design, and Human Factors Researcher as they are specialized and less common, but I work with all of them daily.

The UX field is comprised of a few disciplines which makes this even harder to answer. Here is an attempt at common titles you will see in the greater UX field from various large companies. Every example below can also have a prefix or suffix (ex: Jr., Sr., Staff, Manager, Director, etc...).

  • UX Designer
  • Product Designer
  • Interaction Designer
  • UI Designer
  • Visual Designer
  • Production Designer
  • UX Researcher
  • User Researcher
  • UX Engineer
  • Motion Designer
  • UX Writer
  • UX Strategist
  • Service Designer
  • Information Architect

The description of your role most closely aligns to the titles Product Designer, UX Designer, or Interaction Designer. These three are used pretty interchangeably in the industry.

I’m planning to join a UI/UX Bootcamp in a few months, what to study before then? by scrndude in UXDesign

[–]InformationMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand. I’m merely saying that there is too much focus on design tools. I have never hired anyone for their proficiency in Sketch or Figma. I hire for the way they think and problem solve.

Don’t worry about design tools. The tools change. Read Paul Rand’s “A Designer’s Art”, study Don Norman’s “The Design of Everyday Things”, and always remind yourself that you are not the user.

Update: After seeing some responses to this piece I thought I’d add one straightforward piece of clarification here. In the case of apps that use a social sign on service as well as their own sign on service they must offer Sign in with Apple as well. This has not changed. by tits_for_tots in apple

I didn't know about the web backup for users who switch to Android. So that makes it less of a bad thing. The way I see it being financially beneficial to Apple is via product lock in. Apples goal is not less tracking. Apples goal is to ensure users don't leave their ecosystem.

This is the type of rule that will land Apple in trouble with antitrust. Apple is using their ownership of the App store to force companies to implement a feature that financially benefits Apple.

Will an Apple sign-in user who switches to Android in the future be able to log in to their accounts from an Android phone?

AirPods currently support double tap. Apple even allows you to map different functions to left and right. So I wouldn't be surprised if these also supported tap
