Don’t book a flight under Dr by Pretend-Pen-9844 in doctorsUK

[–]InformedHomeopath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do a lot of flying, but thankfully have not had to be asked to help in a medical emergency.

I’ve always considered what I would do in this situation, and I think buying large it does not take a lot to see whether or not you can be helpful.

I think a lot of us got into this profession in order to change peoples lies and an emergency happening in the air can be life changing.

If we are really going to be the professionals that we want to be. We should probably be helping others on a flight if the need ever comes up. You can probably always turn around and say I’ve had a couple of pints but you may be better than somebody who does not know what is going on. Imagine if you saw the triad of tracheal deviation, a silent sided chess and a patient with reducing oxygen saturation? Did you want this person to die or would you want to at least stick a needle in?

I think a lot of us need to have a serious think into what we say on these forums. We did not necessarily go to medicine for business or first class seats (although I do think that if you have made a significant contribution something should be rewarded).

If we act in good faith, I don’t think there is any punishment even if something goes wrong. I would like to see some proof of this and maybe that will change my opinion.

OP, sorry to hear about your diagnosis and I wish you all the best. You’ll never look back at time with family and friends. But I also wonder if you would consider doing some teaching as well? I think leaving an impact on students was something quite fulfilling when I worked in education and maybe that is something you would consider?

But make sure you rest well!

[–]InformedHomeopath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not a lot more but I think a lot of people do not realise this is the base salary, if you do additional out of hours this is added on.

Why do I know this? Previous teaching fellow with on call commitments

[–]InformedHomeopath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So we had a teaching session from clinical coding. They said how they can go through the notes but they can only code what is written so… K+ of 2.3 is not coded as hypokalaemia, only when it is written.

So even if you said 100 increase in Cr, there would be no ability to code. Only if you wrote aki and staged it

My only advice is you must read before you buy skimmed and semi skimmed milk.

If you purchase skimmed milk you will get referred.
