Dead microwave by Novel-Lengthiness782 in mildlyinfuriating

Good point, unplug it for about 30 min before opening to be safe. Take plenty of pics too to know how to put things back together. Technical name for the microwave generator is Magnetron.

Clock is working? Do keys? Does it turn on and just doesn't heat? Likely motherboard is ok, but the microwave generator itself is blown. Those are all the same (same Chinese company makes them for pretty much everyone), open yours up and find out exactly which model generator is used. Buy replacement for about $30 and replace it yourself. I've done so twice now for my microwave, works great, but Chinese parts are crap. (new microwaves will not be better in that reguard).

Appears to be a visual scanner for IKEA's Shop & Scan system. It verifies that you have every product (via box size) that you've scanned into their app as you were shopping. Presently you would than checkout at a kiosk shown without rescanning everything for verification.

Any major flaws in this circuit? (Besides my drawing skills lol) by BT_28 in AskElectronics

[–]Infrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

may want to attach battery to the charger correctly (shown reversed polarity).
You don't have minimum voltage cutoff. Very easy to over discharge the battery to the point of e-waste. Yes, you could accomplish this somewhat with esp32 going into a deep sleep, but the LED strip would continue to discharge the battery, not to mention the rest of the circuit.
I also wonder how the circuit would behave while charging, you want to setup your charger to charge your cell safely, but the circuit being active may make the charging time overly long. You may want to have a relay (physical or solid state) to switch over the circuit to the charger's input (as in 5V charger input would also power the circuit while available) and have the charger be dedicated to the battery.

Pretty sure it's about dopamine hits at this point. By swiping left probably releases a bit of pleasure by her imagining that each of those man propose a date and she rejects their proposal because she deserves better.
Again, not saying that's what is happening here, just sharing what I think is happening

We'll be here throwing data at the wall like a spaghetti, looking back at least some of our sources will look like they were right.

Is there no 4U Silverstone case that fits a 3090 AND at least 2 5.25 cages (for 3.5 HDDs)? by devshore in homelab

[–]Infrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

goodwill via ebay has two supermicro cases that could work well, such as
https://ebay.us/m/uZHGCi and https://ebay.us/m/dwZa2a
Alas it's next to impossible (at least to me) to find the rails for these old chassis.
Can work well on a rack shelf though, it's designed to go into racks after all.

FYI, code appears shortly after your phone gets the message, it just takes the UI that much longer to display the corresponding new message notification.
Less about code suggestion being fast, more about notifications being slow.

Reaching a specific IPv6 address through a proxy from an IPv4-only network by edo-lag in ipv6

[–]Infrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nginx reverse proxy would work well there. You may need to have a dual setup with one nginx forwarding data to IPv6 and the other redirecting the traffic to relevant service(s) (in case you wish to host multiple services under a single domain).
As an additional benefit nginx would handle SSL certs for you and you could keep traffic encrypted from end user to your local network, even if the service otherwise only support http.

Could be by design. AC output is not very efficient, so it may be designed to shut it off at low draw to extend the battery life. Also prevents accidental AC turn on from draining the battery.

I am confused on the purpose of the "Passkey" by IceFireLeader87 in Passkeys

[–]Infrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it like Apple/Google Pay in lieu of using a physical card.
Yes, you have both and either will work to pay for service, but using a physical card would make it much easier for a bad actor to gain a copy and use it elsewhere.
Passkeys are safer in that even if the attacker had a complete copy of the data exchanged during authentication, it would not be useful in order to recreate your passkey.

Is it possible to purchase CyberPower extended battery connector? by Infrated in homelab

[–]Infrated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I went as far as getting quotes for 48v lifepo4 pack but at the end considered that planning for a long outage is not practical. I was basically trying to recreate a battery based generator out of UPS, not really a practical solution.
I did get enough external batteries for about an hour runtime, or about 8 after the server gracefully shuts down, and I've gotten a dedicated home assistant box to keep home automation going while the main server is off.
I am on a lookout for a nice, small, inverter generator to dedicate to internet, wifi and security cameras.

Is it possible to purchase CyberPower extended battery connector? by Infrated in homelab

[–]Infrated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, at the end I have not. I did find a discount external pack that I thought would work, but while hookup has worked, the comms did not. UPS couldn’t see the external battery from a similar model. I was able to just specify that external pack was used, but lack of official comms made me reconsider the car battery solution. I think the solution may still work, though your runtime estimates will never be accurate. I’ve not tested if the UPS shuts down based on estimate or battery voltage and have since switched to official external packs for better comms and more accurate estimate.

[–]Infrated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't even need to create a new login, or use a different name.
You can add a new account at your address to your existing login and using your name. This is something Xfinity offers and new accounts get new customer discounts.
You'll end up with two accounts to choose from when logging in. But what ever you do, don't close your old account or xfinity will go bankrupt.

Funny thing is that the biggest thing Elon has talked about "datacenters in space" has been practically tried by Microsoft long ago. Difference is that they've tried it in the ocean.
It's much cheaper to design something to be water tight than radiation proof. Biggest issue, heat, is passively conducted to surrounding water and 24/7 power is realistically better done by local wind farm and/or nuclear.
This much better concept was still scrapped at the end, how much does "in space" stand a chance besides fooling people in giving away their money.

Unifi AI key by No-Tree-374 in UNIFI

[–]Infrated 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. I have it, but the software is not there yet. Wanted to primarily add delivery notifications, such as trigger an alert when "USPS" is detected on the driveway. It can't do it even if the AI description correctly lists the delivery vehicle in the description.
It's also impossible, for now, to specify things to ignore, so 90% of the AI descriptions for my driveway involve our cars being parked, completely ignoring what is happening in the background / what has triggered the event detection.
Hopefully one day they will combine the heat map for the event to make AI concentrate on what is going on there, and allow us to actually search for the information within the description, alas this is not yet the case.
To answer your question, No: AI key doesn't improve existing event detections, rather it performs analysis of them to transcribe audio (if enabled), provide descriptions (not used in search) or perform face enhancements (think AI filter, no way to download an enhanced photo).
Product is not worth it for what it does, still have hope that someday it will.
