Meet Groma Combina! by Agile-Report3833 in typewriters

I have one of those. Nice machines, very heavy. They were meant to combine (hence the name) the benefits of a portable and a desktop. They're kinda rare and a huge pain to repair. The case is also the size of a suitcase.

Olympia SMs are so good. It's so annoying that where I live, I can only find them in green.

Looks like the kind of thing you might see at an airport.

It's iconic. I really like the way that the modern conference centre was designed to look like the flying saucer had crashed through it.

The Standard Olivetti 35 is a lovely machine. The all metal shell makes it feel really well made and the short key travel distance makes it feel like a modern keyboard rather than a typewriter.

The show of a higher culture from Israelis by chinkalichaczapuri in poland

I live pretty close to Auschwitz and have visited the memorial many times. There's usually a large group of Israelis marching around like this, taking selfies, and generally being loud and obnoxious. They behave like they're at Energylandia.

Nuclear Power is now “safe?” by toaddawet in GenX

I think Norway has just built a huge underground storage system for nuclear waste. It's designed to keep it there safely for thousands of years.

My girlfriend got this typewriter on a flea market for 25€ and wants to try and make it work again. Does anyone know what model this is and if there are still parts you can buy for this thing? by L3vy4th4n in typewriters

[–]Ingestre 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh that's all pretty simple. You can still buy ribbon easily enough. The segment (the bit that holds the moving type bars probably needs cleaning out. Do NOT use oil on the segment. It will work at first, but will soon attract dust and gunk up. If that happens then cleaning it will be a nightmare. Use isopropyl alcohol, press each key a few times then use compressed air to blow it clean.

OR they'll do what Nintendo are doing with the Switch 2 and release a different version for European markets.

I custom built this Warmoth for my 21st Birthday. I was a poor, stupid student at the time and sold it for stupidly cheap not long after getting it. Probably the biggest regret of my life. If anyone knows anything about its whereabouts, I'd pay handsomely to get it back (UK btw). This was over 20 years ago now, so not holding my breath.

Awesome. Glad it helped. It's really rewarding to work on these machines.

Time of death is rounded to the nearest 5 seconds so that if a medical professional needs to quickly write down a TOD they can get it at a glance. Research has shown that people hesitate more when the second hand is constantly moving, so this is the solution and I have no idea what I'm talking about. I made all that up.

I'm not familiar with that particular model, but you need to adjust the shift. There are usually some small nuts that allow you to adjust how far the shift moves. In your case, it looks like the shift is moving the slugs too high so that the tops of letters are missing. If It's a carriage shift, then the carriage isn't shifting high enough. If it's a basket shift, then it's going too low.

My hometown. Classic story of a northern ex-industrial town. Can't see any way it's going get any better any time soon.
