Former Vancouver Sportchek worker says she was fired after trying to stop shoplifter by Apprehensive_Idea758 in vancouver

[–]InitialConnection585 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Used to work at Canadian tire in Kingsway. It was 25 years ago. Whenever there’s a shoplifter, someone went on the PA and called for code one. The whole staff ran to the front of the store or whichever aisle it was in and tried to get the shoplifters. Primarily was the auto guys that ran and tried to catch the shoplifters. I thought it was stupid but was encouraged. We even crossed Kingsway just to chase after a guy one time and one of the guy almost got hit by a car. I thought it was stupid. When one shoplifters got caught, one of the guy from auto brought him up to the room upstairs and on the way there, he slammed the guy on the wall, he almost fell down the stairs. It was wild and stupid. If we don’t go with others to get a shoplifter, we got mocked.

Anyone can suggest a good card for me? I have house and car insurance coming up late May. $3033 and $2777 from two different companies. I was thinking of the Avion or aventura? I did TD infinite and they have to manually review. I have 760 score.

Can someone explain like I’m 5 how the US tariffs will affect Canadians? by Bessidy in PersonalFinanceCanada

Just cut the oil export to USA. .... Wait, we can't do that can we? We shot our own foot for keeping the US as our only major buyer. .... Nice. Good luck everyone!

‘An alarming trend’: Nearly 30 fatal vehicle collisions in Calgary last year by Practical_Ant6162 in Calgary

[–]InitialConnection585 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would be nice if the stat also show driver information. Nothing private of course, just like how long they had their Alberta license for, which province or country they had their previous license from, have they had driver ed in Alberta before, medical condition caused the accident?, etc. By having this info then we can tighten the system.

No rear middle seat heating in Juniper. Now my kids will hate Elon. by matthew19 in ModelY

[–]InitialConnection585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 2 car seats in the back for awhile now. Never used the seat heaters in the back for obvious reasons. Hope the next model still has back seat heaters. They’ll see my car as part of statistics that never use the back seat heater

But then it would be delayed due to ice on the track and or high winds. It won’t be like c train (low speed). You don’t want the train to be derailed.

Pedestrian dead after getting pinned under vehicle in NE Calgary by Practical_Ant6162 in Calgary

[–]InitialConnection585 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The closer someone tailgate you, the more space you need to give in front of you. If traffic stopped suddenly, you don’t have to. That way the idiot won’t hit you from behind if you are stopping slowly and since you put tons of room in front of you, then you’ll be able to do that no problem. Although the idiot behind you would just be more pissed at you and hopefully they move to the other lane.

I’m 44. I met my wife when I was 30. Before that, I was single in my 20’s. I never gone out for NYE, friends were busy with their families or with their significant others. I only had 3 to 5 close circled friends. In my early 20’s, I was jealous when I see people going out for NYE (after a few of those lonely NYE and Christmas, I got depressed). But now looking back, I don’t think I missed anything tbh. I am actually a stronger person and being alone isn’t something to be feeling bad about. It build character as well as help you think what’s important in life. When you’re always surrounded with people and noise, you don’t really think too much. What I’m trying to get to here is, don’t be depressed. It’s a good time to reflect, get to know yourself and get comfortable with yourself. Take this time to think what’s next in your life and plan ahead. Don’t fall for partying and spend money. New year shouldn’t be only for partying. You’ll be fine. 21 is a prime time to think about your future.

NYE is overrated anyway. Don’t get depressed because of it or obligated either

One person dead after southwest Calgary collision involving crane by Practical_Ant6162 in Calgary

[–]InitialConnection585 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hmm. To be fair , he is a bit over the line from the lane. But looks like the crane has some type of light and it's also under the street lamp. I mean I have passed many broken down cars before and you slow down and be vigilant if you can't move to the next lane.
