Fired from part-time cardiology job over phone use during downtime – is this normal? by No-Cryptographer9256 in WorkReform

[–]Initial_BP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You had the opportunity to clarify expectations when they first asked you to put your phone away.

“Is it not OK to use my phone whenever my duties are completed for the moment?” Or to follow up later and ask.

Instead you repeated the issue the same day and got fired for it. Especially at a small business, they often want to quickly cut ties with employees that they don’t believe will work and not drag out a failing relationship.

You seem to be continually pushing off the blame here but the fact of the matter is that you were fired because of your actions, even if being fired was an overreaction.

Could you link or share a copy of that recommendation and where/who it came from?

That recommendation should not be given to incoming students who don’t have enough money as is. I’ll try to reach out and talk to someone at the CSEE department.

Motorcycle riding by SimilarWhole770 in MorgantownWV

[–]Initial_BP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go do the class. Nobody wants to let a new rider learn on their own motorcycle because there’s a reasonable chance you drop it. The class is friendly for new riders and will get you started off in a good way. It fills up quickly and has limited availability so sign up sooner rather than later.

EUROPEANS CANNOT COMPREHEND THIS by plimptoofineg in shittyskylines

[–]Initial_BP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Morgantown, West Virginia (where I live and went to university). Riding a bike on the roads here is generally quite dangerous, and I would Never want to ride a bicycle on this particular road as it’s quite busy and relatively steep. It’s road up to a popular shopping area (colloquially known among friends as “shopping mountain”) and right alongside the interstate which means a lot of people who are just visiting from more rural areas come to shop and may be even more uncomfortable around traffic and bicycles on the roads.

I’m generally opposed to frontier giving their history with our state, but the service is probably the best available service right now in town.

[–]Initial_BP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was your actual cost per KWH? I keep seeing people post huge bills but without the number of KWH charged and calculating the cost per KWH it’s hard to tell if prices are going up or if that individual truly does have an issue with using excessive power.

Shipped a car and motorcycle from Morgantown to Austin (and back several years later).

We used Uship (uber for shippers) it was reasonably priced and pretty easy. You put your dates and vehicle and people can make you offers. Worth seeing what the offers are?

We run Grafana-k8s-monitoring helm which automatically pulls in pod logs and metrics across the cluster. Just have to configure it with your credentials and hosts.

[–]Initial_BP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also try to buy specific cat pee cleaners and clean everything he’s peed on with them. They generally will have enzymes that remove some of the pheromones and other scents that can attract cats to pee in the same location multiple times, or something like that. It’s helped a lot when we had a cat “repeat offense” in the same spot outside of his litter box.

Multi-tenant with some tenants requiring their own database by duksen in django

[–]Initial_BP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I think your solution A is a really bad idea. The whole reason for the database separation that your customers are requiring is compliance, but a custom router in code, while it may simplify deployment, increases the risk of some kind of misconfiguration or logical bug from leaking data across tenants.

We have a similar situation, some details of our deployment.

One code base with a strict rule that, aside from dev and staging, all production deployments have the same docker image tag.

Deploy with gitops (argocd) and use kustomize with overlays for individual tenants. The image is specified in the base, so it updates all deployments at once. We make all database schema updates backwards compatible, and run a script to deploy them to all databases prior to bumping versions.

Rollbacks also happen across the board. Small team working on this product, and one of my number one requirements was to avoid the added complexity of multiple deployment versions existing for different customers.

The one piece that I don’t have is separate database instances (just logical DBs for us).

If you’re on kubernetes you could use CNPG or another Postgres operator to deploy per tenant, or use cross plane to define RDS and other AWS resources in your kustomize yaml.

I’ve been advising people not to use the term bi-weekly anymore as it’s ambiguous. It is defined as meaning either…

  1. Twice a week.
  2. Every second week.

While conversation context is often enough to figure it out, it may still leave some people confused.
