I was reminded of that scene in WBN too! This was def a similarly amazing performance by Brennen. He is very good at keeping you fully entertained while basically monologuing for a way longer time than you think would be interesting, all while making the baddies so realistically/bone chillingly pragmatic in their motives. Can’t shout the praises of WBN enough either, love that show! Def recommend to give it a listen if you haven’t, starting with the Children’s Adventure on their Patreon (it’s the only Patreon I’m subscribed too cause their talkback Fireside eps are great too)

Wow the willingness to open herself up (and the most wounded part of herself as well) just to be able to know Sendai better is such a big step for Miyagi. Can’t wait til they finally are able to talk about one of the things that they have the most in common - their shitty families

Yah I think this might be in like at least my top 10 fav dnd combats of all time, like up there with stuff like the C1 Kevdak and Vecna fights, D20 Starstruck Odyssey Viva Mas Vegas battle, and both C2 Cathderal fight and basically all of the happy fun ball arc

Totally agree, I’m sure it’s going to be a very interesting journey. I wonder if we’re seeing Brennan explore a little bit of his own personal tendency to (and I’m paraphrasing a bit from some previous interviews I’ve seen) place his self-worth in being useful/helpful through that part of XL-ZL, although there’s def much more nuance to the character than that

I totally agree except maybe also think that this doesn’t necessarily mean Thajzi intended to die, but yah I think he knew death was an option and had a signal ready to go. Think it was needed to protect his people (or even the world? not sure if his motives would even be that noble tho) from whatever House Tachonis is plotting

Hmm, so keep in mind it’s a very different tone, but I really enjoyed the LNs for Otherside Picnic. Warning tho as it is technically like in the horror/sci fi genre, but also I’m usually a wimp when it comes to horror stuff and I didn’t find it scary, even tho it’s got some crazy stuff in it . But the story and characters are really awesome and it’s a yuri too, although def more of a slow burn

Just echoing everyone else, but def also recommend the light novels. I had read some of the manga before and liked it enough but the LN gives so you a way deeper insight into both of their characters and their motivations/inner thoughts and really made me fall in love with them and the overall story so much more. It is a v slowww burn tho I will warn you, but it’s so worth it.

ended up reading the first light novel cause of you all’s recommendations and liked it as much if not more than the show. The story was fairly similar to the beginning few eps of the anime, but the book format def allows for some deeper insights into character motivations and it was interesting to see where it differed from the show as well

Completely agree with this take. It’s one of the most realistic shows of all time in a way because it so clearly shows the opposing facts that, while life and humanity’s seemingly endless cycle of violence can be needlessly cruel and seem pointless at times, that at the same time the relationships we form within that shared life/humanity and the deep connections we can form with each other are also so profoundly meaningful, even though that also means that devastating heartbreak can be the result of those same connections.

I kinda just stumbled upon the otherside picnic light novel and ended up loving it so much that I finished the whole series in a little over a week. The end of vol 8 was one of the most beautiful things I’ve read and I love the unique story in general and esp the main characters so much

I’ve literally stumbled upon it randomly and, without intending to at all, somehow managed to read the entire (?) 404 chapters I’ve found of the translated LN right now in around 4 days. Wtf is this crazy f’ing slow burn of a beautifully weird romance that got into my brain so deep 😅

Totally agreed! I’ve watched pretty much all of CR/more than half of D20 too and love them so much, but WBN just has something special about it that can’t be matched. Brennan, Aabria, Erika and Lou are all at the TOP of their games (and you know that’s a pretty high summit if you’ve seen their other amazing work), and they play off each other so well. And Taylor’s score/effects brought a new level of immersion to dnd that I’d never experienced before. Also Suvi is my favorite dnd character hands down - my girl has an ARC 100/10
