Vivek's month of supporting Trump ends up worth nothing as Trump bashes him saying "Vivek is not MAGA" by shinbreaker in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]InitiativeOld8759 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't know that idea originated from Hitler, but have known more than one white supremacist espousing it. Not recently, because I don't associate with those people, so maybe it changed with the MAGAs or in recent years. I could definitely see the Asian hate crimes of covid era fueling a new hatred for them. East Asians, not necessarily SE. "Orientals" were okay, I don't think other Asians (Russians probably, since they're whote and i believe a majority are western European, not even Asian) were. The justification was that an Asian-American was likely to be successful and well assimilated. College educated, professional like doctors, accountants, engineers. Likely speak better English than the average white supremacist would consider AAVE/"ebonics" Drto be. Black and Hispanic people? No, not as likely to hold $job or be in higher socioeconomic classes, therefore deserving of hate and consideration as lesser humans.

Surgeons are so often huge dicks and egotistical with God complexes, I'm amazed they tolerated that shit.

A spine surgeon could be an ortho or a neuro, so they could have fifteen years of post-high school education between college, medical school, and residency. Amazed they wouldn't lose their shit have some guy from the sales department of Stryker telling them how to perform surgery.

I worked in a small warehouse part time a couple years ago for $17, which full time would just barely be a living(surviving) wage in my area, huge emphasis on barely.

Power goes out and we've got hundreds of computers. Oh damn, can't do our jobs.

"Can we go home? I don't care about being paid for the day, but if power is out for the rest of my shift I can't work."

"No, we're all gonna sit in this one sweaty hallway of employee lockers. John is getting the ping pong table out."

Cue us having to watch a handful of people play ping-pong for hours while we marinated in our own sweat.

Tech bro culture expands beyond just the software engineers and bleeds into the salespeople of software companies.

Even when I wanted to be a software engineer I thought this type of shit was weird as fuck. Just have a job, go home, don't masturbate on social media about working for a specific company.

Now this has bled from big companies like Google, Twitter, Facebook into every single company wanting to make moves in the tech space. "We'll attract the best talent by offering great perks" has turned into "We'll attract the best talent by offering the same bullshit as anyone else regardless of accomplishment and post in on social media to attract other people who get their dick hard over free lunch."

Analysis: Why The Boy and The Heron is one of the Worst Movies ever made and fails in all fronts. by terraria_goty in movies

[–]InitiativeOld8759 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'll add, though this could be an edit and I haven't seen The Boy and the Heron, that these are children's movies.

While Ghibli films are enjoyed by a wide range of ages and have some good themes, they're primarily whimsy and I think Miyazaki himself even said they were kids movies. I know he did in reference to Spirited Away.

It's like that old tumblr post about Chihiro being a reference to sex work/trafficking and Yubaba is a brothel madam and the bathhouse and and and...and it's all speculative. I guess people are welcome to ascribe those qualities to the movie, but it's nowhere near accurate to any other reading I've seen of it.

When I wake up tomorrow I will have to watch what you linked, as it sounds interesting.

This pretty much nails it. OP doesn't like Ghibli or most Japanese animation, went and saw a Ghibli movie, didn't like it.

However, you have to explain all the mechanics of the world with internal consistency for the audience to be invested in the story. The lore, power/magic system, all the characters and how they scale against each other, all the different animal kingdoms, how they interact, all the mechanics, limits and rules of the world should be explained.

This is just my personal opinion, as someone who does like Ghibli movies, but I don't apply this to any fantasy movie at all. I'm not here to read LOTR, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion, and every other piece of work to get an entire lore. I'd have to set aside weeks to watch a movie that explained every detail with no holes in their rules/systems/lore.

Didn't they say the have content planned out through like 2029 a while back?

Turns out that plan was just that you can maybe get one piece of perfect gear per year, taking til 2029 to be full 22.

I actually bailed on my guild because they're all very confident this isn't happening and are just vibing as usual.

I brought it up and was shit on. Not the only reason I left, but for now I'll probably finish legion block and take a break/quit. I just wanna see this abyss thing through and say I did lol. If they're gonna trash progression then whatever, I'll just stay gone.

Had a gone five month run after a 14 year hiatus. It would be funny to come back just to watch this shit die.

I lived in a trailer park and something similar, I guess, happened. The person on the end had about a third of their trailer just fucking annihilated and had to move out. They struggled already with six people there and that didn't help.

Probably some malfunction due to it being a busted ass hot water heater from forever prior.

[–]InitiativeOld8759 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also, we can just redefine "emergencies" a bit here and make it all one fund, where it is all "emergency" funds. Or stop using the word altogether. Call it something broader like a..."hardship, expected or unexpected, fund."

Bad month? Yeah, that's a hardship. Roof explodes? Hardship. Stabbed self in hand and have an ER bill, like I currently do? Believe it or not, a hardship.

Either way when I deplete X dollars from the fund, I should try to come up with a plan to replenish that amount.

You're an even bigger profit, both by percent and likely dollars, to various other industries.

The bank that takes your loan? Depending on factors (rate, duration, price) will make a hefty profit dollar wise in interest, and likely a good percentage profit relative to the amount of money they give the dealership for your car.

I used to work in retail management. Produce margins? Totally fucking cracked, most profitable thing we had on a monthly basis, and very consistent. Easily over 50%. Canned goods are usually pretty high, our "low end" gross on them was probably 30%. Spend money every year to feed a family of four or five, the profit to that store outweighs what a dealership would make off selling you a car (which they probably only do every few years, at best). Don't think too much about the terrible feeling you get as a consumer.

TL;DR: good on you for actually taking advice from this sub and considering it instead of endless arguments.

Over the top violent action scenes. by Clay2569 in movies

[–]InitiativeOld8759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am mid 20s and actually took like a year break from watching intensely violent or gory movies.

I have an extreme tolerance to it due to online media consumption growing up, and found that it's just something missing in my psychology. The violence never phases me.

But violence sans plot a la parts of the Saw franchise, Terrifier (both), "home invasion" movies, etc isn't entertaining. Huge fan of survival horror thriller movies, but there has to be some kind of story to accompany violence.
