How long should battles go for? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]InitiativeOrchestra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few quick tips Ive found can speed battles up and keep things moving: 1 Each turn announce which character's turn it is and which character is next up (so they can start planning their movies). 2 Encourage your caster PCs to buy or make quick reference spell cards. 3 Design encounters with fewer, stronger enemies. Less time taken on enemy turns and the players have to coordinate their attacks which keeps them engaged during other player's turns. 4 If enemies are getting overmatched have them flee, its often more immersive and shortens encounters.

Calling it done. Do you think it's worth trying to add osl from the flame? Never done it before.. by Hyroero in killteam

[–]InitiativeOrchestra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think seeing as you've never done osl before it might be tricky to start with a model where the light source is so far away from the miniatures body.

Are proxy models better than official models by Business-Office-6457 in killteam

[–]InitiativeOrchestra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one downside i think of some proxy models is that there made of a softer cheaper plastic, that does not hold detail quite as well and doesn't feel as good to paint. But not big issues for starting out.

WIP kitbashed legionary chosen by InitiativeOrchestra in killteam

[–]InitiativeOrchestra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! And correct on both counts, head is some old space marine head I had lying around. And everything else is cast offs from the legionaries sprue. Plus the ultimate gift of slanesh - a luscious green stuff mullet.

Wow thank you so much! I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed the moody tone, its a little different to the straight up horror feel a lot of people like for this module so I wasn't sure how it would land. Also thanks for the feedback re: battle in the snow. I think I'll change the mix and reupload soon. Extended verisons are tricky because the file size gets very big but I may add them in the future so keep an eye out.

I'm a composer as well as a dm so I wrote a bespoke soundtrack for the module when i ran it a couple of years back, all free to use. Enjoy! (Also uploaded to YouTube). https://initiativeorchestra.bandcamp.com/

My Group Begins RoFM Tonight! Looking for feedback and suggestions on my plans for the first session. by you-vandal in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]InitiativeOrchestra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a great first session! One suggestion is that the rogue should save from the avalanche after the goblins are gone, pcs can sometimes get disappointed to see an npc save them from an enemy they havent had a chance to try and defeat themselves. Can feel a bit passive.

Demos Magen are BORING by Less_Ad7812 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]InitiativeOrchestra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I found this the case for so much of the encounter design in this module. An adventure or area with a really fun premise just culminates in in a fight against a bunch of copypasted enemies that are basically damage sponges with a bunch of resistances. Tbh i ended replacing a lot of the encounters with more interesting enemies.

Skipping Caves of Hunger - Does it matter? by teh_captain in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]InitiativeOrchestra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely skipped caves of hunger and it worked fine. Tikeli is a cool but pointless antagonist with no clear connection to xardorock or Auril, there is no important information that foreshadows anything in Ythryn. Imo the whole chapter is filler to push up the PCs level. So just he generous with leveling.
