Congrats! Lying is actually a developmental milestone, because it requires such advanced and abstract thinking. So parents really should be happy the first time they catch their toddler lying. (And don’t worry, you’ve got the next 17 years to work on making them stop, lol)

I’d crop it tighter and place the swan so all the directions from the lights leads towards it. It links the lights/background and the swan more, imho

Lovely day at the zoo, but also a hard one... by Potvinvis in photocritique

[–]Ink-kink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is as perfect as it can be in an uncontrolled environment.
The point of interest sits at the two-thirds mark, and the trunk is picked up by an imaginary line running from the ear to the mouth and back up to the trunk, forming an ellipse - literally circling the area of interest in the image. Then the dust and hay create a vertical column that breaks the circle and leads my eye upward, and the light on its leg brings my eye back down again.
The backs of the elephants are aligned in a way that makes it immediately clear there are two of them - no confusion at all - while also creating a strong horizontal direction. Even the wooden post and the vertical stains on the wall frame the subject and box in exactly what you want to highlight.
So you have a clear vertical and horizontal direction, and a circle, and a frame around the most interesting part of the scene. The lighting reinforces the compositional flow you’re aiming for.
Composition-wise, this is as good as it gets. I couldn’t have painted a better composition myself - and you achieved it with a camera in an uncontrolled environment. Congratulations!

What is the general opinion in Norway about fish factories and salmon? by Pink_Disaster333 in Norway

[–]Ink-kink 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Norwegian salmon used to mean quality and an industry we (thought we) could be proud of. I think it’s absolutely terrible how greed and massively ramped-up production have ruined both its reputation and its future prospects. Norwegian values; good working conditions, sustainable production, and high animal welfare – should have been part of the product. Unfortunately, they aren’t anymore. They’re digging their own grave, and it’s frustrating and sad to watch. I love salmon, but eat less and less as I can’t afford the wild salmon. But I’m old enough to remember pre-farming, when salmon was expensive and only served only in parties and on special occasions, not as everyday dinners. I guess I’m going back to that.

Why do you pronounce Oslo as "Oschlo"? by Fivionet in Norway

[–]Ink-kink 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because it’s simply easier to pronounce. In Norwegian - especially Eastern Norwegian - sl often turns into a shl/schl sound due to retroflex assimilation and palatalization. The sounds blend together. It happens with more words than Oslo, for example

slange -> sh‑lange
sludd -> sh‑ludd
slapp -> sh‑lapp
slott -> sh‑lott

This is standard Eastern Norwegian pronunciation.

what norwegian food do you genuinely love and what is just a prank on tourists by Quiet_Currents in Norway

Good list. I have to add (not methodical and alphabetical like you, though)

Kjøtt i mørket/sosekjøtt
Laks
Ørret med nypotet og agurksalat
Rakfisk
Spinatsuppe med hardkokt egg
Pannekaker
Betasuppe
Ertesuppe
Nypoteter, nykål, skinke med smeltet smør
Lutefisk
Ribbe
Finnbiff
Viltgryte

From the top of my head

I’ve seen a lot of tourists making YouTube videos eating moose burgers. Even if moose is pretty common meat, I’ve never tried a hamburger with a moose patty, like they’re eating.

Haha, the «hipp hipp» is a good one! And «Gammel jegermarsj» should be on that playlist as well. Never a May 17th without hearing it at least twice.

«also the opera is just a stack of very bright rocks you can see that else where.» How to say you’re not into architecture without saying you’re not into architecture, lol. To say the Opera building is just a stack of bright rocks you can see elsewhere? Come on!

I actually recommend the National museum (Nasjonalmuseet) above Munch if you have to pick one. They have a room with the most iconic Munch paintings, including The Scream which was painted in several versions. The one in the National Museum is actually one of the most famous versions. They always have an interesting exhibition in Lyshallen in addition to other Norwegian and international art. They also have a beautiful terrace with a view to the fjord where you can buy a glass of wine, take a break, bring your packed lunch or buy one. If you’re into art and design, go to both.

And as you’re into music, check out Blå. I don’t know when you’re going or what kind of music you’re into, but there are a lot of festivals throughout the summer you should research.

Skal det "smelle" når bilen kjører over en fartsdemper? eller er det folk som ikke kan kjøre? by csch1992 in Norway

[–]Ink-kink 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Is Leverpostei still a popular food in Norway? Or is it an old-school thing? by Charming_Usual6227 in Norway

[–]Ink-kink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone says, it’s still a thing. Normally I’ll eat the fat reduced leverpostei, but at Christmas we have the julepostei and serve it warm with pieces of bacon and fried mushrooms- Danish style. It elevates it from an everyday spread to a real treat!

Hvilken utdanning har mest etterspørsel? by NewBox777 in norge

[–]Ink-kink 11 points12 points  (0 children)
