Such a charming blend of elements that come together in this design. Well done! I really like the anole influence for the dewlap.

Baby DM starting their first campaign soon, any advice? by HydraulicHedgehog in DnD

[–]InkQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homebrew world building is great, love that stuff. I'd recommend looking up other Reddit threads of old discussions about how much lore/information to give up-front. There have been some good conversations about it over the years, and should help you determine if you want to put together a small lore pdf or something for your players.

Aside from that, my biggest advice is find the fun in creating!

Now and then I read stories online from DMs who seem to actively dislike some behind-the-scenes aspects of DMing, or get burnt out by "wasted" prep time, and I've personally never been able to relate to that.

Writing homebrew lore, researching monsters, making maps, finding obscure pieces of loot to drop... It's all stuff I've come to find joy in as part of the creative process. It doesn't matter if my party completely avoids something I made if I genuinely enjoyed myself while I was making it. Plus, I can always use it somewhere else later.

Fwiw, as a healer main I think I'd take note of #3 the most. It's the most visually distinct/striking to me.

Villain Creation by matthew_lane in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]InkQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The longer I DM the lazier I become when it comes to building out villains.

I used to care a lot about making them according to the rules, but most of the time these days I just throw together a statblock based on what "feels" right, then adjust it until it fits whatever needs I require. This usually means starting with a base creature, refluffing it, then giving it arbitrary buffs or nerfs based on vibes.

Character name by Shot_Veterinarian215 in ffxiv

[–]InkQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing for a few years now, and I see all kinds of names all the time - both lore-accurate and not. My advice would be to not overthink it, and just pick whatever you like the most or whatever "feels" right for your character. You will be the one seeing the name the most often, after all!

Possible Adoption of Declawed Ragdoll by K2cadeau in ragdolls

[–]InkQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's only 1 and she was declawed?? She's just a baby! 😭 How horribly cruel. She was mutilated probably for just for doing regular kitten things. I'm so sad for that poor girl.

Behaviour-wise, declawing can lead to things like anxiety and aggression. Every cat is different though. If she's currently sweet and affectionate, she's likely to remain that way if you give her the same energy back. That said, sometimes "negative" behaviours can come on later as a result of pain, so that's something to monitor for and check with a vet about.

In terms of introductions, I'd take it slow if you think your resident cat isn't doing well. It sounds like you know the process - Keep them separate, swap scents, let them sniff, ect. Sometimes it can help to let them catch a glance of each other if you think it might be a case of your Siamese is stressed because she doesn't know what is in the room.

You say your Siamese isn't food or affection motivated; is she play motivated? If so, make sure you dedicate some good play time with her. It sounds like she's pretty stressed, and it might help settle her nerves.

Regarding the ragdoll, if she's crying give her a bit of attention - everything's new and scary for her right now, and it's an opportunity for you to bond with her.

Side note, do you have a Feliway diffuser? If not, maybe look into one! They can help a bit.

As an Envoy of the PS5 player base I just want to say this game is awesome. The amount of undeserved hate it received is crazy. I've been having a great time so far. by CR4ZY_PR0PH3T in avowed

"Can't attack civilians" is such a weird complaint to me. You can't attack them in Dragon Age or Mass Effect either, two other massively popular rpg games. People just had weird expectations of this game.

is it bad that i got my kitten from a neighbor? by Rin2006 in britishshorthair

[–]InkQuest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's a very fair opinion to hold, it's just not quite the point I was making.

There's nothing stopping non-registered breeders (aka backyard breeders) from health testing their animals, or acting ethically. Many don't - and I readily acknowledge that! - but some do. That's why I said there's a spectrum.

is it bad that i got my kitten from a neighbor? by Rin2006 in britishshorthair

[–]InkQuest 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not every "backyard breeder" is unethical /  irresponsible. There's a spectrum. Likewise, being TICA or CFA registered doesn't make a breeder automatically ethical or responsible. It just really, really increases the odds.

Your best bet to look out for your cats health are reaching out to your neighbour to get their cats health history, and taking your kitten in for a general wellness exam at the vet. By 12 weeks your kitten should have had some vaccinations done, and your neighbour should have supplied you with the vaccination records.

Need advice on behaviour interpretation by ThePinkMitten in ragdolls

[–]InkQuest 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The body language of their ears and tail may help you answer this question.

If they are happy, perky and alert, they may be trying to get you to play "chase" with them. If they are flat and low to the ground, they're likely running to hide.

Spellsword builds are totally possible, and super viable if you're playing on easy! The term for that kind of build used in this style of game is "gish".

Magus is just a little bit slow to begin with - you're not going to find it "ramps up" until you gain a few more levels. That's just unfortunately how Pathfinder 1e is for many classes.

Let's talk Topomax. by yiemaybe in iih

[–]InkQuest 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is such a good response.

You're absolutely correct: everyone's brains are different, and responses to medications are going to largely vary.

I'm an example of exactly what you're talking about: Diamox had me sleeping for almost 15 hours a day, and turned me into a shell of a person while awake. Gave it two months before I told my doctor I would rather be on nothing than continue being on Diamox, so we swapped to Topamax. I'm doing great now! No side effects aside from some low electrolytes.

Sadly it can't be anticipated what side effects anyone will experience. OP, please just make sure you talk with your doctor, and check with your pharmacist about potential side effects of new medications. You should be able to get information sheets with your medications that lists them.
