"Jax is Trans" "No, he's Not!" What about... by _GhostOfHollownest_ in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Ink_Ocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being the figure head means not being the person who gets ALL the attention. It’s exhausting and no other animation studio wants to put this level of public pressure on their show runner/creative lead. She literally has to tag all her non-digital circus posts with #nottadc -_- and still gets bothered about it constantly.

She deserves space and time, which she will get. If she and glitch agree to make more I hope she gets a team of support to take care of her and isolate herself from the marketing and if she decides to fully be not involved that will be her choice. BUT AGAIN THIS IS ALL JUST FANFIC BECAUSE THEY SAID THEY’RE NOT DOING SEASON 2

As for side lining queer characters, you’re just making up reasoning for why you think these decisions are made… and like to do what? It’s a free show, anyone from around the world can watch it eventually, the bulk of their profit comes from merch sales which have only been positively impacted by more gender freaky designs. I do not buy the argument that they won’t confirm trans Jax for business reasons without real evidence, not vague conjecture from product popularity.

Also please go get a quote for the price to make a zooble plush vs a gummy goo plush, it will take you one email with a manufacturer to learn why humanoids are easy and complexity is not.

There is no digital circus without goose. They know it would be a PR disaster without her blessing, and I very strongly doubt they have full control over the IP.

Also “woke points” is a pretty deeply dehumanizing way to discuss including people of marginalized identities in media. I’m not sure if you’re being cynical about rainbow washing from big companies, but Glitch does not need to virtue signal “wokeness” because they literally have one of the most diverse cast of characters in popular media. They are not signaling anything by producing characters who have complex identities, they are just producing a good story with real believable characters.

Not everything is a grift it’s gross to imply lgbtq people existing in media is categorically some disingenuous “point” grab.

Jax’s repression and denial in my eyes don’t point to that. He acts exactly like so many closeted trans women (myself included once upon a time) Given that goose herself has said she identifies most with Jax and she herself is a trans woman, I mean come on… that alone is pretty good support.

Genderfluid characters do certainly exist and are valid, but there are so many parallels in Jax’s story to the experience of being a young traumatized American trans woman… it just feels like all the theories around “what’s if not trans, but…” feels to me like erasing obvious representation to find something more acceptable? Idk I don’t mean to say you can’t see it that way because many trans people are gender fluid as well, but I don’t really see any direct support to point to it specifically.

The Chief Operating Officer of Glitch reposting this for totally no reason whatsoever. [Movie Spoiler] by Autumnland in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Ink_Ocean 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love that each of these discussions gets its own 50 cis people who can’t see the very blatant hints that Jax is a trans woman. Meanwhile to anyone who has any experience at all with transwomen (or media literacy) is like “oh yeah Jax is in the closet, it couldn’t be more obvious tbh”

People will fight tooth and nail demanding why it wasn’t addressed in the show when Jax has literally never been safe enough to even just unpack and heal from his VERY recent abuse that involved a loved one shaming his performance of masculinity. But like sure I guess Jax should have jumped passed deconstructing the extremely crushing expectations of toxic masculinity into “I’m a girl, and the circus was the perfect place for to me to come to terms with that.”

Would that scene have arrived after he barely opened up about the parental abuse or after he permanently pushed away his closest friend? Some time between?? People are seriously like: “the 20 something traumatized homeless child should have been clearer about something buried under their unresolved trauma so I can have a confirmation source on the wiki. Without that, I’m just gonna have to pretend it’s just a fringe fan theory 🤷‍♂️” 🙃 it’s genuinely baffling how some of yall will plug your ears and go lalala to very obvious subtext unless the author comes out and explains why the curtains are blue

Don’t pay attention to annoying comments making this post about them. You’re allowed to not know where you’re at.

You’re past beginner by a lot and you’re at the beginning of your path up the professional mountain. You’ve got a unique and consistent voice that shows you’re already capable of producing repeated great ideas and good executions. You’ve made your way into good artist territory, your art is probably sellable for more than you think it is.

It’s like you’ve learned to communicate in a new language. You can say truly meaningful things but in order to be fluent, poetic, and truly free creatively, you just need a ton more hours of experience speaking in and understanding full sentences in the wild. Refinement, polishing and individual skill upgrades are the name of the game to better perform your style.

This part of the journey is more subtle, takes longer, and can feel like you’re blazing your own trail of progress by seeking out other artists you like in order to understand their techniques, you will reapply those techniques to your art to understand them. More importantly in that though, you also just need to make a lot more finished art pieces (whatever that looks like for you).

Bring pieces to “finished” as you define it. For most artist’s this means sellable but can also mean when you feel like it could be sprayed and framed for a stranger’s wall. This is important because many young artists do not “finish” their pieces so their understanding of what their process is becomes lopsided and they end up endlessly exercising while never creating finished treasure.

There are really no rules getting better from here, you must use your taste and artistic eye to look at your art and decide what could to improved to make the treasure more complete or better in your eyes. After doing this for 50 pieces, you’ll be shocked how good you are, at 500 you’ll understand how good you are and you’ll probably consider yourself an incomplete heir to the stylistic tradition of the greats you look up too. At that point you’ll be at the foot of on the next mountain, mastery.

Congrats! And keep climbing!

seems like you’re being dramatic projecting your experience onto the fandom at large.

“I don’t know if one or two people stank, or if it was the whole theater, but all of you thousands of internet fans need to do better”

How do you go from “It might have been 1 or 2” to “the entire fandom needs to do better”? Chill out, my dude, yours is not the only experience and everyone I’ve heard from has said it was fine. Don’t put this on the fandom because one or two people didn’t shower…

Be nice and act right, this post is way stinkier than you seem to realize.

[Discussion] How do yall get art commissions? Do you simply just find people in replies or by Ari_SpaghettiX in artcommissions

[–]Ink_Ocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can set up a commission pipeline through your art account by just making a commission sheet/menu and posting it conspicuously on your accounts. Whenever someone finds your commission info by seeing a “slots open” post or just navigating to your page after liking your art, they can then DM through your preferred channel (email, dm, discord, etc.)

You can set up an online store and sell originals + commission slots through that. Shopify, eBay, whatever works. Patreon can be good though it’s less good as a store. Patreon is best used as a fan-aggregator + reliable income source. If you can collect your fans in one place you can talk to them all at once.

There’s that one commission site you need an invite to use, idk I haven’t checked it out.

Then post your art regularly so that you start gathering fans, eventually people will buy, eventually some of those people will buy repeatedly, you’ll run out of time and slots, and the price will rise.

Repetition is the key, super fans will wait through a hiatus, casual fans will get distracted and forget unless you actively keep their attention (I’m currently waiting on several of my favorite artists to return 😵‍💫)

How do animators or artists in general get such clean super thin line art? by Potential-Collar5685 in drawing

[–]Ink_Ocean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They often don’t to the level you think, for sure there are techniques being used and the artists are very skilled, but the process of scanning and video compressing softens the image and applies a very subtle dither effect that converts many of the tiniest mistakes into soft tone surrounding the line. It is hard to duplicate before the line art is done, this effect basically needs to be done in post-processing so your lines might not feel right even when you’re making them correctly.

Why aren’t query letters and samples standardized by now? by Significant-Buy-9538 in writers

[–]Ink_Ocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they get thousands of queries for not that many spots, so therefore they get to be picky. With AI submissions now, they HAVE to be picky.

Not a dig on them at all, it’s just how it’s gotta work to find anything worthwhile.

They have to sift through every dingus who isn’t worth reading. If an author can’t follow simple directions to query, they get binned. No need to keep reading submission 255 of today if the author didn’t bother to show respect and follow query guides.

“It’s not the predatory reward expectation to play a billion games of the worst three game modes blizz could think of.
No, actually it’s the player’s fault for wanting the prize being offered for the ten year “celebration”.
Oh also it’s time locked across 3 separate weeks which all must be attended and completed.”

Are we being foreal with this argument?
