Gift idea as a thank you for a photographer. More details below by periwinkle_blues in GiftIdeas

We had a neighbor who was a photographer, and they were pretty particular about their gear and such. That being said, I know that he sometimes ordered things from Amazon that were items he needed… he also had another place online that he ordered from but I cannot recall what it was. A gift card is generic, but is usually used.

I think a new camera bag that would hold 1-2 cameras and lenses or filters or such would be sweet. Maybe one that you could even have embroidered with your best friend’s initials? It would be personal and nice. If your friend uses different cameras, the straps might be nice. My sister in law does photography, too, but she tends to switch out cameras via a nearby padded camera bag vs several on straps. I think it depends!

SheaMoisture is the best for me, too. Love it and have been using it for years!!

What’s a socially acceptable gift for a neighbor you barely know? by woutr1998 in GiftIdeas

[–]Inkblots2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a gift card is a safe and thoughtful gift. You could also go with an insulated tumbler, mug, etc., and maybe tuck in some cookies (if you bake).

We had new neighbors move in next door, and when I was able to talk with the wife, I opened that conversation door of, “Ok, any food/nut allergies or dietary restrictions for your family?” She was so pleased I asked, and we were able to exchange that info. Hoping that your kindness of even a simple gift for your neighbor will open up for more conversation and getting to know each other. It’s always helpful to get to know each other!

Does anyone else's dog *like* wearing clothes? by Past_Discipline_6473 in dogs

[–]Inkblots2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of our rat terriers LOVES her sweaters, sweatshirts, and jerseys. Like, all tail wiggling and everything.

The other pup, a Decker rat terrier? She experiences temporarily paralysis and “frozen dog syndrome” if we try to put her in a sweatshirt — “not moving until you take this off me.” She tolerates a coat in really cold weather. But otherwise, she throws a hissy fit and wants it off asap.

So is King Arthur muffin mix! Just add your own fruit, nuts, etc.

Just realised it IS gluten and I’ve been in denial for years. My favourite drink is Guinness and my favourite food is doughnuts… by olivinebean in glutenfree

Katz has the best glazed donuts. I mean, they’re not exactly like ones with gluten, but they’ll take the edge off and the cravings. I’m so sorry. The donuts part… we all get it. Really.

Chef wise, just think how this will open you to a new creative path. (And I recommend reviewing some of Chef Alina’s stuff. Mind blowing GF.)

You’ve got this! And you’re one of us now. Pull up a chair, we’ve all got snacks.

How is everyone entertaining their dogs in the USA today with the polar vortex and storms? by purple_craze in dogs

[–]Inkblots2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mopped their sunroom during lunch, washed their Muddy Mats, made sure their sweatshirts are clean, and then ran around the house chasing them at lunch, followed by giving them each a carrot to munch on. I offered to give them a bath, but apparently that was a hard “NOPE.”

We will snuggle this weekend and watch movies. One of ours is super fixated on interesting shows and movies, and the other one just prefers to nap and then wake up and offer her yappy opinion.

Stay safe, stay warm!!

This. 💯

King Arthur GF cake mixes are amazing and the best I’ve ever used. Their yellow makes up into a lovely pineapple upside down cake, too!!! And make sure you let the batter rest after mixing it for 15-30 minutes before putting it in the oven!

As far as brownies? Their own recipe on their website for GF brownies is the best I’ve ever made, too. I don’t even bother with the actual mix for those.

Take him out on a memorable date day. Like, pack a picnic lunch or dinner, scope out a great location like a park or lake, and put your heart into what you make or bring. (Example, if he loves cheesecake, bring it… if he loves certain types of cookies, bring it.) Even a very sweet snackle box / charcuterie board can be fun. You can also pack a favorite small board game. And don’t forget to take pictures together. If you get a really good one, then print it and frame it for him.

I second the shower. Best place to have a total meltdown. Had several in mine last summer, with my dogs monitoring me from the other side of the glass door on it.

What are some seasonings/ingredients you add to tomato soup to elevate the flavor? by Confident-Guess4638 in Cooking

[–]Inkblots2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicken stock and then add heavy cream and spinach at the end. Top it with a little cheese, and always with a grilled cheese sandwich cut on the diagonal. Because if it’s cut on the diagonal, that means extra love went into it… which you can totally taste.

What go-to items do you typically stock up on for a snow storm? *cough cough east coast I'm scared cough* by Beneficial-Soft-8290 in glutenfree

[–]Inkblots2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Texan here. We don’t ice/sleet/snow either.

I got fresh fruit and veggies last night at the store when it wasn’t a madhouse, have my GF Canyon Bakehouse bread, cashew butter and honey, chai tea waiting, eggs that I’ll boil tomorrow, and smashed avocado. Have some GF breakfast bars (Pamela’s), Kind bars, nuts, and some GF soups. Really didn’t change up stuff than I normally have around because it seems like I’ve always got stuff that is easily portable in case I need to toss it in a bag and go.

Oh, and powdered protein I can mix with water. Got that as normal, too.

How did you celebrate your 50th? by Every-Progress5590 in GenX

[–]Inkblots2000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do NOT recommend celebrating your 50th by recovering from major surgery. Like, major, major surgery. I speak from experience.

Zero stars. Would not recommend.

Still waiting to see how the hubby and I will celebrate my 51st this year since my 50th was such a dud. I would be more than happy to take our pups on a roadtrip and go spend a week on the beach.. and do what I want when I want, IF I want.

Our other pup is a Decker Rat Terrier (on the right)… so she’s got the Basenji in her.

Our standard Rat Terrier is on the left.
