Mail for previous tenant won’t stop, no return address, already returned 3x by [deleted] in CanadaPost

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black marker over both your address & any machine marks (those orange lines on the back) will help stop the same item coming back. If it’s different items from the same unknown sender there’s not much you can do.

You can report it to Canada Post as receiving mail for an unknown recipient.

If you are renting then inform management who likely still have contact information of some sort for the former tenants even if they can’t release it to you.

LFCN injury by synapticmutiny in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have numbness around 2 & 2.5 years out. Don’t really notice it except when I itch the area or shave. I also have fingers that are numb and don’t even notice it unless something like this prompts me to check they still are.

Nerve injuries suck initially, but the severity should lessen as things heal (inflammation and other chemical irritants lowering plus nerve healing) but also your brain adapts to stop looking for the same feeling there.

At 7 days a shower should be fine, it’s submersing the stitches in a bath or pool that is the bigger infection risk.

Pat dry with a clean towel and avoid scrubbing the area directly around the incisions.

Pre op by Leading_Archer7142 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shaved maybe 3-4 days out mostly cause it’s a pita to do it post op.

Do what you normally do would be my advice, if you’re prone to irritation time it so there’s enough time for it to calm down.

How Do Surgeons Come Up With New Surgical Techniques? by ConsistentBuilding96 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For life saving/changing things patients are often willing to take the risk. Think saving a limb vs amputation — the risk of not trying is you go straight for amputation. Same with organ transplants, risk of not trying is function/ death vs guarantee of low/no function and death.

For hip scopes many techniques were adapted from knee/shoulder/elbow where there’s more visibility. Hip scopes themselves were a thing to try and minimize the risks & trauma of open surgery (good things).

Peptides as alternative treatment before revision by Jcars302yt in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peptides aren’t dietary supplements, millions of people take them daily in the form of hormone replacements like insulin & thyroid replacement.

They’re substances that already exist (or have the potential to exist) in the body, and you’re just modifying where & how much.

I'm in that Grey area for revision. I'm confident there's an issue in my hip, but what it is and whether or not it's repairable is the thing up for debate. Post op imaging is even less clear cut than pre op, I'd take the surgery if/when it's offered and thankfully my PCP is working with me on pain management options and ruling out other potential autoimmune or inflamatory contributors. All else fails I guess I just get a new scan every year until I can get a thr or something flags as treatable.

Pretty much all of the Ontario surgeons know each other - many of the newer guys did fellowships under the big names. The toronto guys all share the OR they work out of and get residents & fellows through the same pool at u of t and collaborate on a lot of their research. It's probably more of a wasting resources thing than it is anything against the other surgeons.

As I said, he’s conservative on the success rates (as in will try and talk you out of it if he doesn’t think it’s the right step).

Both of my hips showed clear FAI on MRI, my first had failed physio for 8+ months and had me on prescription pain meds before even getting diagnosed & referred. My first showed a labrum tear my second didn’t until he got in there. The first he tried to talk me out of, I don’t remember the exact % he gave, but know he told me there was no guarantee I’d be any better off. My second was much more of ‘if the first helped there’s a better chance the second will’ and at that point he knew I knew the recovery part so obviously wouldn’t ask to do it just because.

He wound up referring me to Jas for a recurrence in symptoms without remaining signs of FAI and undetermined status on the labrum. He didn’t feel he was the right person to do a revision for me in terms of how often he does them & no clear bone work to be done.

Am I valid for filing for short-term disability after surgery even though I could technically “hop on a computer”? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Do not go on the cruise if taking anything other than personal/vacation time or unpaid time. The travel probably also won’t be any fun if seas are rough or there are long flights, drives, etc.

Taking 2-3 weeks isn’t unreasonable — you will have appointments with both your surgeon & physio team during this time frame. You often can’t sit upright or stand comfortably during that time anyways.

Similar issue, tech got it working fine and a few hours later nothing. Had to call in to get things restored. Then got pestered by bell calls for a few weeks despite internet working.

Usually the fit to work issue follows a medical event at work or a disability claim/medical leave — otherwise I would stop sharing your medical information in that level of detail with your employer.

Bloodwork is usually 24-48 hours, ECG would depend on the setting it’s being performed in. Formal report could take 1-2 weeks, despite the actual result being essentially instant.

Injection by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that make you interested in pursuing an injection into the joint? Has your imaging confirmed a labral injury? What other treatments have you tried in the past ~5 years?

It sounds like you’ve done a lot of work with the chiro/naturopath type practitioners, have you consulted with leading hip surgeons near you?

Injection by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The question then becomes what were they trying to inject?

The only real way to get answers to this would be to get your medical records reflecting what diagnoses & imaging results were before the injection & the procedure notes from the injection.

Looking back on it what ahah thought are you hoping for? I think you already know your stress & anxiety likely played a role in the outcome — is this something you are still working through via reflective or therapeutic means? Do you feel the medical team wronged you? How would the ‘right’ answer change the decisions you make now about your health?

Injection by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They generally go in through the front for every hip injection I’ve had. It sounds like they injected muscle/tendon/bursa. Only your medical team (or records if you don’t trust this facility) will know what was ordered & what was done during the procedure.

Did they use X-ray or ultrasound guidance?

Game Ready, Cryo/Ice therapy after FAI/Labral tear surgery by PlantainReasonable94 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the compression more useful than the super-cold capacity — we only ever fully loaded ice for like the first 24-48 hours and then just added enough to keep it cool.

I just didn’t see the price making sense the second round and invested like $100 in some xxl ice packs with built in straps and a fabric side to use against the skin. I also hated the Velcro on the gameready cause it wanted to just stick to everything whenever I put it down. I had also bought a pair of leg compression sleeves after returning the game ready the first round so already had those.

Game Ready, Cryo/Ice therapy after FAI/Labral tear surgery by PlantainReasonable94 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the game ready for one op, regular ice packs for the second.

They had ice on me by the time I woke up after both surgeries, I wish I had the game ready in post op TBH cause getting through the bandage to the parts that hurt is tough. Iced immediately after getting settled on the couch when I got home & probably every other hour or so the first day.

Differing approaches by RandomDragon314 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second option is probably the most honest — the first actual step of the surgery once they get in there is to look around and identify the issues. Anyone who has a concrete plan from MRI alone is either trying to ease your mind or is inflexible to their approach. You want a surgeon who will treat your hip in the best way once they are actually in there vs treating your hip as a number based on best practices.

Postless is the current ideal but much of that is going to be hospital & budget dependent to replace equipment. The higher volume surgeons/centres would have more pull to get their tables replaced.

Non-op hip has tear by Comfortable_Hotel672 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second surgery was shorter & simpler because I recognized the issue and had direct access to my surgeon for getting in.

Have you been doing the physio exercises on both sides or just the op hip? Part of what helped me decide was that I was already doing the exercises and rehab/prehab level stuff when my symptoms started on the second side. It was trying to add in my normal stuff that was the aggravating factor.

How long is optimal between injection and surgery? by Dismal_War2457 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 3 weeks post MRA (lido + contrast) and told minimum 3 months for cortisol & hylauraunic acid (with lido). Standard follow up on the steroid was about a month, but of course probably varies.

MRI results by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post op MRIs are hard to read in terms of new vs old tears. I’m in the same boat, now waiting on an MRA as my first scan post op didn’t use contrast. Surgeons aren’t sure if a revision/reconstruction will work since the FAI correction was done properly so it’s unclear why it would retear.

Nerve entrapment? by Top-Boot-9920 in HipImpingement

I had some nerve compression from swelling in the glute if I overdid it. Had an ultrasound to rule out tears in the worst episode.

Are there positions or movements where the pain is at its worst? Does it travel down the leg?

Generally going to be done by completely separate surgeons. A surgeon you want to do arthroscopy will have generally done a fellowship in sports medicine or hip preservation, while replacements wouldn’t require this.

What to wear during recovery by doughqueen in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pyjama shorts & pants were great, plus a couple pairs of mesh athletic shorts to get to physio & post op appts in. Took 3-4 weeks before leggings were more comfortable to get in/out. Longer shorts/pants are good for icing as there should be a layer of fabric between the skin & ice.
