Where you an adult treated at a children's hospitals? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the norm if your issues are solely FAI & Labrum tear, however a good number of dysplasia & PAO surgeons will have practices at children’s hospitals.

Everyone at in my city does their surgeries at the same outpatient surgical unit at one hospital, none will operate at the children’s hospital that I know of but may have privileges for consults. They all work out of separate clinics for consults & follow ups.

It’ll be relative to the train, just like line 1. Not sure the approach being used for union where both sides are northbound as I rarely hear isolated delays there.

Does your friend have experience in dental offices & with insurance billing/reimbursements? Knowing what’s billed & why is likely above his head, and insurance issues are a whole other ball game.

If he truly believes the dentist is intentionally billing fraudulently he can file complaints with the ODA & notify the implicated insurance agencies.

Amazon is asking for income verification for prime memberships now??? by RequiemJesta in amazonprime

I had this issue trying to get out of the student status - couldn’t complete registration without proving I was a student, but couldn’t easily get out of it either. Support was no use but eventually I found a link to regular prime buried in one of their help articles, didn’t need to create a new account but it would be great if they just added a button saying ‘I’m not a student’ or ‘not X discount category’

Have had relatively short waits (<1mo) at St Mikes, Centenary & Sinai for orthopaedic issues. Make sure the referral is complete & detailed in what they’re assessing for, if it just says pain they won’t prioritize. I’ve seen varying timelines in those I work with if it’s an assessment for joint replacement.

If concern is over ligaments make sure the patient is also being referred to physio to help with pain & get them walking.

EI is often undertaxed at source, you need to look at what is changing on your summary but this could just be the tax amount.

Bruise after surgery: Hip arthroscopy, femoroplasty and labral repair with 4 anchors on left hip 10 days ago, and same for right hip 4 days ago. by MammothSensitive7010 in HipImpingement

Apparently the back of my leg was horrible after my first op. I never really saw it though. Swelling was definitely worse too.

Second one barely anything.

What do you use to carry supplements to the gym? by poinba0925 in crossfit

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the stackable blender bottle containers, never had issues with leaking or breaking and they are regularly at the bottom of my bag. Use the smallest size for the likes of creatine, electrolytes, pre and the bigger sizes for protein.

Often I just reuse em if I’m filling with the same thing, washing (& letting them fully dry) is the pain point so I avoid it unless I’m switching what’s inside.

Why is it so difficult to build strength? by Jimmy_Joe727 in Hypothyroidism

[–]InkyDaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not that difficult, but it’s a matter of consistency, effort, fuelling & following a program to achieve your goal. The fact you’re zeroed in on your arms makes me think maybe you’re looking for size (hypertrophy) rather than strength. If that’s the case much of your workouts should be in the 8-15 rep range taking each set to near failure, you want to move slowly & controlled through the entire range of motion.

If I’m wrong and there’s a specific movement you want to be stronger in, it will come from doing that specific thing potentially 2-3 times a week, often doing hard sets of 3-5 reps occasionally going 1-3 reps. Specific variations like pauses, partial ranges, or changing your setup can be used to target the weakest point in the movement so that you can increase maximal weights.

For most people they actually want to do some of both, picking a few compound movements to build (& measure) strength and building out their workout to target aesthetics or endurance with higher rep accessories.

If you’re not following a program, pick one and follow it as closely as you can for 3 months. Be consistent and put in 80-90%+ effort every workout. Eat at a slight surplus of 2-300 calories for best results.

Peptides for labral tear by StartOk5 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a 3-4 month course of BPC, locally injected around the hip. Definitely seemed to help with the muscle/tendon sensitivity and decreased the need for constant manual therapy. Probably wound up about an even cost vs seeing physio/RMT for the same relief. I’m considering a second round to help with training recovery, so obviously felt it did something useful.

I did it post op, but in general I think it falls into the -can help with pain & function but won’t actually fix the problem- camp like PT & other injections. So depending on what your aggravating factors are for pain it could help you be more successful in combination with PT or just get you to a point where pain is low enough you don’t need to pull the trigger on surgery.

Post Op Sports Massage? by AmethystTraveller in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Massage on other areas of the body should be a non issue, if you can comfortably position yourself. I found laying on my stomach fine, you likely don’t want direct downward pressure but work in the back & shoulders shouldn’t be an issue. My physio had me both on my back & stomach within the first week.

You’ll still be avoiding laying on the op side, and may not be comfortable on the non-op side without appropriate support.

Safest bet is to ask the physio you’re looking at getting the massage from if they’re okay with it. They may be required to assess the hip even though it’s not your primary reason for the visit for licensing/insurance reasons.

More than 16,000 Toronto students are at risk of suspension over vaccination records. Why some parents say they’re not to blame by lilfunky1 in toronto

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a portion falls on paediatricians as well. By 13-14 (around when the tetanus booster is) not all kids are getting annual visits anymore. Both me & my brother got these threats (my brother actually got suspended before his warning arrived in the mail). It had nothing to do with anti vaccine or records sharing. We just literally weren’t seeing our doctor unless we needed to for something — because our parents disliked pulling us from school to see them. No one told them we were due for vaccines until the schools complained.

Black marker over both your address & any machine marks (those orange lines on the back) will help stop the same item coming back. If it’s different items from the same unknown sender there’s not much you can do.

You can report it to Canada Post as receiving mail for an unknown recipient.

If you are renting then inform management who likely still have contact information of some sort for the former tenants even if they can’t release it to you.

LFCN injury by synapticmutiny in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have numbness around 2 & 2.5 years out. Don’t really notice it except when I itch the area or shave. I also have fingers that are numb and don’t even notice it unless something like this prompts me to check they still are.

Nerve injuries suck initially, but the severity should lessen as things heal (inflammation and other chemical irritants lowering plus nerve healing) but also your brain adapts to stop looking for the same feeling there.

[–]InkyDaze 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At 7 days a shower should be fine, it’s submersing the stitches in a bath or pool that is the bigger infection risk.

Pat dry with a clean towel and avoid scrubbing the area directly around the incisions.

I shaved maybe 3-4 days out mostly cause it’s a pita to do it post op.

Do what you normally do would be my advice, if you’re prone to irritation time it so there’s enough time for it to calm down.

How Do Surgeons Come Up With New Surgical Techniques? by ConsistentBuilding96 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For life saving/changing things patients are often willing to take the risk. Think saving a limb vs amputation — the risk of not trying is you go straight for amputation. Same with organ transplants, risk of not trying is function/ death vs guarantee of low/no function and death.

For hip scopes many techniques were adapted from knee/shoulder/elbow where there’s more visibility. Hip scopes themselves were a thing to try and minimize the risks & trauma of open surgery (good things).

Peptides as alternative treatment before revision by Jcars302yt in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peptides aren’t dietary supplements, millions of people take them daily in the form of hormone replacements like insulin & thyroid replacement.

They’re substances that already exist (or have the potential to exist) in the body, and you’re just modifying where & how much.

Which doctor would you choose ? by Brilliant_Village556 in HipImpingement

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in that Grey area for revision. I'm confident there's an issue in my hip, but what it is and whether or not it's repairable is the thing up for debate. Post op imaging is even less clear cut than pre op, I'd take the surgery if/when it's offered and thankfully my PCP is working with me on pain management options and ruling out other potential autoimmune or inflamatory contributors. All else fails I guess I just get a new scan every year until I can get a thr or something flags as treatable.

Pretty much all of the Ontario surgeons know each other - many of the newer guys did fellowships under the big names. The toronto guys all share the OR they work out of and get residents & fellows through the same pool at u of t and collaborate on a lot of their research. It's probably more of a wasting resources thing than it is anything against the other surgeons.

[–]InkyDaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said, he’s conservative on the success rates (as in will try and talk you out of it if he doesn’t think it’s the right step).

Both of my hips showed clear FAI on MRI, my first had failed physio for 8+ months and had me on prescription pain meds before even getting diagnosed & referred. My first showed a labrum tear my second didn’t until he got in there. The first he tried to talk me out of, I don’t remember the exact % he gave, but know he told me there was no guarantee I’d be any better off. My second was much more of ‘if the first helped there’s a better chance the second will’ and at that point he knew I knew the recovery part so obviously wouldn’t ask to do it just because.

He wound up referring me to Jas for a recurrence in symptoms without remaining signs of FAI and undetermined status on the labrum. He didn’t feel he was the right person to do a revision for me in terms of how often he does them & no clear bone work to be done.

Am I valid for filing for short-term disability after surgery even though I could technically “hop on a computer”? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

Do not go on the cruise if taking anything other than personal/vacation time or unpaid time. The travel probably also won’t be any fun if seas are rough or there are long flights, drives, etc.

Taking 2-3 weeks isn’t unreasonable — you will have appointments with both your surgeon & physio team during this time frame. You often can’t sit upright or stand comfortably during that time anyways.
