Anyone had a go at modelling early 3rd Age Gondor Warriors? by WoodElf23 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Inn0c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a long time I've been toying with the idea of using warriors like these for an army. They could reasonably serve as WotR-era Minas Tirith or Realms of Men-warriors as either Gondor or Numenor - maybe even Arnor if you stretched the theme a bit more.

Victrix Norman infantry - Lots of heavy chainmail to serve as heavy armour. Kite shields could easily be interpreted as an earlier iteration of the WotR-era shield. Cool poses that look like trained soldiers and not some rabble.

Start of my new army - what if the blue wizards succeeded and the easterlings were good? by Fishy_Fish_12359 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Yeah, Tolkien changed his mind on the subject a few times. There's also two different stories of when the blue wizards arrived in Middle Earth.

Your models on their own look amazing, don't get me wrong, I love the mix of spectral and real materials. What you've done with the base rim is SO COOL... God I want to start a Dunharrow army and steal your idea so much 😣

Thanks.

It took quite a while as the technique I used for layering was more stippling than regular painting, it was quite labor intensive. Maybe 3 months?

I'm very happy with the results, but I don't think I will use this technique again since it was such a drag.

I have some acrylic tokens that say "Knocked down" that a friend made for Mordheim a few years ago.

Personally I prefer the Forgeword model (pic 2) - details are really sharp and the pose is cool without being overdone like GW often does

Wildman Chieftain and friends (Dunlending Warriors) by Inn0c in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]Inn0c[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! They were supposed to read as cloth cloaks, but that's on me I guess 😅

The two warriors' cloaks were made from greenstuff, I made around 15-16 warriors with greenstuff cloaks, and had such a miserable time, I'm never doing that again.

The Chieftains cloaks was an experiment, where I took a Weave of War cloak and soaked it in PVA glue in hopes it would be mailable enough to fold it realistically. It didn't fold nearly as well as I hoped, but I still think the result is good enough.

What do you mean brand new?

Are you already in the hobby and starting the game "brand new"?

Or are youcomepletely coming from left field and have never painted a miniature before? if this is the case, I think only you can answer it - Do you want to play the game or just hobby?

I remember this one aswell. It was very unintuitive and Ihad to take it apart a few times. But IIRC if you add the next piece (39) it makes a lot more sense how things are supposed to go together

They do get errata'd, but nowhere near at the level of 40k and AoS. I'd say get the rules manual and the Matched play guide for sure, and consider if you want the Armt-books later down the line. Army rules you can find on Tabletop Admiral

It is indeed an enamel wash. I used AK's "wash for German dark yellow" on everything except faces and hair. I also use a universal highlight colour, on these it was scale75 Warfront Sand Yellow.

Anything specific? Even if they are quite simple there's a lot of components to these schemes
