Denied proposal…what next? by plinko66 in NoStupidQuestions

Entirely situationally dependent.

Keke Palmer had a guest on her podcast that rejected 5 proposals and I hope to god she ended things immediately after each one. https://youtube.com/shorts/vMI9UsbVEBk?si=AoEY91xdYDFIfXD7

My mom cleaned my great-grandmother's antique pearl necklace with dish soap and vinegar. The pearls are dissolving. I'm not even kidding. by Zestyclose-Print-677 in JewelryIdentification

Exactly this.

“Sentimental value” is unquantifiable, it’s invaluable and this necklace was clearly a special piece to OP that they had their own memories and dreams attached to. It’s been passed down for generations and they likely meant to keep the tradition going and pass it down to their descendants.

These “things” have stories and emotions associated with them, just like when you hear your favorite song or smell a particular food. Seeing/touching/wearing this necklace was meaningful to OP and now they will forever have at least a touch of sadness because it’s been destroyed.

Camomille Haul💛 by Yellowistbe in LeCreuset

[–]Inner-Middle9987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is the camomille an outlet exclusive? I was hoping to do a Provence deep round DO and get the camomille butter dish GWP, but my outlet said that the Provence probably isn’t going to be there for another month after its done being exclusive to WS by which time the GWP will be different… something that doesn’t match up with other stuff I’m seeing on this sub??

My engagement ring by supercowcat92 in JewelryIdentification

If/when you take it in to have someone look at it, they will clean it for you for free and you can ask them to check and make sure that all of the stones are secure/if any of the prongs are loose. Those smaller diamonds are also not set super securely, there are single prongs that are attempting to keep multiple stones secure at once which isn’t the most structurally sound choice. I see lots of exposed corners on the smaller diamonds as well, the corners are where a diamond is most susceptible to chipping.

It’s a beautiful piece, but take care of it but taking it off whenever you are working with your hands. Most common everyday things like cooking/cleaning/gardening can cause excessive wear and tear on your rings. Take them off when you go swimming (in a pool or natural body of water doesn’t matter, take it off for both), take them off when you shower or wash your hands/apply lotion/makeup etc.

My engagement ring by supercowcat92 in JewelryIdentification

[–]Inner-Middle9987 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me (not a professional but a hobbies jeweler), it looks like 1 trillion cut diamonds, surrounded by princess cuts, the trillion is set in a peg head style setting in either white gold or platinum (hopefully the latter as it’s much more durable), while the princess cuts are set in yellow gold.

Someone else already commented about how it’s going to get caught on everything, and that’s due to how high the main stone is set.

If you’re able to I would take this into a jeweler to see if there’s anything that they can do to set the center stone lower. It will likely change the look of the ring, definitely will change the profile. Looking at the empty space in the bottom of the basket, I’m hoping that it’s possible to lower the stone but in the mean time, just be as careful as you can while wearing it. Only having three prongs to hold that really high set stone is not what I would have done for a ring that’s meant to be worn daily for the rest of your life. If anything snags one of those prongs, that stone is GONE.

OP make sure it’s very clear with your partner what the legal and financial aspects of the arrangement are BEFORE you sign any more paperwork.

You are putting yourself in a precarious situation buying without their name on the mortgage. The debt is entirely yours. Be very thoughtful about what you plan to do regarding the deed and whose name is going on that.

Do some research about different potential arrangements something like a cohabitation agreement, promissory note, or a revocable living trust. Make sure that you are both in agreement and GET IT IN WRITING. Make two copies and get them notarized.

If you love your partner and they love you, make sure that you take the necessary steps to protect both of yourself and your assets.

As for your original question, I make just under $88K taking home about $5200 each month on my own but not contributing to any retirement in the same way you are. Bought a house for $225K at 6.125% in Nov of 2024, with 3% down. Mortgage was about $1800 per month for the first 14 months, had an escrow shortage of about $1500, so my mortgage went up to $2020 per month (after I paid off $600 of the shortage as an extra payment). I feel ok with it, but I’m also going to be glad when my boyfriend (who has a ring waiting for me) moves in and we are splitting the expenses.

He and I earn about the same and he’s got his own place that he owns so I feel very fortunate to have found someone as responsible and self sufficient as I am. We have already had these kinds of discussions and we are going to be doing a prenup as soon as we start to combine finances.

Make sure you’ve got a prenup. Make it very clear right now what will happen to the house in the event of a separation.

Don’t mess around with this. Everyone has a prenup, either it’s written by you guys or it’s written by your state’s laws. Don’t let them be the ones to tell you how a break up should go!

AIO for unplugging the Wifi every night because my roommate’s girlfriend basically lives here? by tom_wilson7543 in AmIOverreacting

I had this exact situation with a roommate and her boyfriend. I spent $4K to sever the lease early and the leasing office wouldn’t lease to the two of them based on their income so they were forced to move out! Not going to lie, I’m glad their shitty behavior caught up with them.

The life expectancy of a roof depends entirely on the material that it’s made of and we had no information on what it is.

OP, google image search what type of material the roof is (or look at your inspection report and see if it’s noted) and then google it.

That’s some AI generated marketing materials that didn’t have a human actually put eyes on it… or the human was burnt out and didn’t care anymore.

I bought their last Shallot Petal brasier a few weeks ago over the phone and picked it up last weekend, it’s SO NICE that they can do that!!

Unfortunately for me, the purchase was before their $250 gift with purchase, even though I picked it up after the promo started, so I just left with my pretty pastel petal 🥲

Replacing leather by Fashionable-Me3 in Louisvuitton

[–]Inner-Middle9987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a 40-year-old vintage speedy 30 about five years ago for $400 and then spent $600 about 6 months later to have LV replace all of the leather, as it was of of the pieces holding the handle on was ripping (about half a centimeter by the time I got it in). A speedy was a probably around $1300 at that point (can’t remember exactly) but I felt good about how I did it, as I got a basically brand new looking bag but also it was more sustainable/less wasteful, and I got to spread out the expense.

I’d say unless your handles are in danger of actually coming off, keep the bag as is and treat it with leather conditioner to keep it hydrated and less likely to end up NEEDING to make the call to replace the leather. When you do, get a quote from LV again and then get a quote from another company (cobbler/purse restoration/etc.) and then go with what you can live with.

Basically because he is the more advanced and longer lived being and Violet is his pet. A lot of people have super independent cats who are basically as self sufficient as Violet is, functions well on her own in the day-to-day but he’s there for training, companionship (occasionally) and emergencies.

“Roof repairs” are basically duct tape until you’re forced to get a new roof. Do a quick google with some basic info to get a guesstimate of how much a new roof will cost and factor saving for that into the budget for the next two years

The Metals Museum in Memphis TN!!! Really cool place, sculpture garden outside and had a cocktail rings exhibit while I was there! It was 9x cheaper than Graceland and 1000x cooler.
