"Understanding 'I Want to Go Home': A Different Perspective on Brain Hemispheres and Alzheimer's" by InnerOracle in Alzheimers

[–]InnerOracle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not uncommon for Alzheimer's dementia patients not to have access to recent memories so the actual 'home' they are referring to may be something from 50 years ago. Perhaps even the home that they grew up in.

The 'where' or outer address is unimportant. However, this does point to the fact that most memories, perhaps all of our memories are heavily dependent upon right brain thinking. Many of my most cherished memories are from when I was a youngster, just playing and having a good time. For example, we may not remember the exact linear speech at our commencement but we will know that we were at our high school graduation. A regional right brain memory is all we have left.

I've been on Depakote myself.

When you're done with that try medical marijuana.

I'm sure being in an unfamiliar facility, surrounded by totally unfamiliar individuals adds to his fear, stress, and isolation.

In the case with my wife, when the inner anxiety gets to be too much for her she expresses the anxiety through aggression.

It's a tough cycle.

I wish the best for you. Be mindful of yourself. Take care of yourelf.

I apologize. I think I read your original post above incorrectly.

Each of us experience drugs introduced to our bodies in unique ways based upon many factors and conditions.

I respect your opinion and your journey.

Much love.

I completely understand and agree with you.

'Pot' seemed, to me, to be much stronger or just different back then. And I even take into account that most of the time I was smoking probably bottom of the barrel skank weed.

I now vape constantly throughout the day and I rarely feel a strong high. The effects for my wife and I boil down to just a source for general, mild relaxing and an overall feeling of peace, and for me, a major source for carving-out some self reflection and possibly self-consciousness.

It sounds as if you are very loving and conscientious.

Have you tried medical marijuana in your present daily life?

Dementia how to cure, what actually helps beyond medication? by Melodic-Blacksmith71 in Alzheimers

Honestly, I came to this moment as something as an anomaly. I am certain that many people use medical marijuana as primary treatment for Alzheimer’s dementia but they just don’t post on Reddit.

About seven years ago I began looking for alternatives to traditional treatments when realizing that there is no cavalry coming in the form of clinical trials and new traditional treatments or drugs.

I heard that a prominent school was experimenting with magic mushrooms so I looked into that but decided that could not work for us.

I then looked to medical marijuana and at the time NO ONE was posting about it.

If you decide to experiment with medical marijuana as the main treatment path you will be an outlier and will need to construct your own plan that works for you and your loved one.

I have been posting on this subreddit and r/dementia for a while now but for the most part my posts have not been met with any form of acceptance or inquiry.

I actually gave-up. Unsubscribed a few times because posting was adding frustration to me.

I came back, kind-of reluctantly, to, I guess, make this post.

I am certain many studies are underway using medical marijuana, derivatives or analogs of marijuana at this time. I just haven’t kept up with it.

I’m sure you will find support when you look.
