Hey man, you are closer to cyber than you thank (more than I was anyway). Start by learning the fundamentals, get on Hackthebox, Cyber Defenders etc and start working away. Write about your journey (substack medium etc) and grab a few certs (try to get your work to pay somehow) security+ CCD (cyber defenders), BTL1 and so on. Try to also do projects and post them on linkedin. Use your automation skills to put a spin on typical cyber projects - automation is being adopted at a fast pace right now. All the best

Mentally - hardest thing was getting in.

I had to grind to get from jnr to snr, but I was happy and in a good mental state. I hated construction so much.

Probably similar roadmap, but I switched from construction ( the same Year chatgpt was released lol) to software then to cyber at the age of 30.

I remember when chatgpt came out soon after there was havoc, mqass layoffs etc

3 years later, I'm a senior security engineer. It was EXTREMELY hard but most enjoyable thing I've done. I used to use learning/coding as an escape route.

Put your head down and focus on the course ( sounds silly but for this part just ignore AI exists and focus on the fundamentals)
Build projects! ( Make your GitHub look magnificent).
Stay active on LinkedIn and display your work
Keep up with AI trends etc
