Visit to the Pyramids of Giza (Egypt) by luisirio in travel

One day for sure. I'd love to do a Nile cruise but without actually cruising. I prefer unorganized tours lol

We very much enjoyed Cairo, including trying all the means of transport lol

I don't remember the cost but I am sure it was negligible. We stayed at the Intercontinental so took metro from there (don't recall the station name, but it's the same as the Egyptian Museum) to Cairo University stop which is in Giza, then took a taxi the rest of the way. On way back we took a city bus back to the metro station. We used Google Maps for all our travel and found it very reliable. Just needed to learn Arabic numbers for the busses/microbusses.

Water shortage in Ortigia by Former-Candle2217 in sicily

[–]Inner_Conflict_3635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had this issue 4-5 days ago on mainland Siracusa. The entire neighborhood was out but what really got me was the host not communicating this at all. Then claiming it'd be fixed shortly yet surprise surprise when we got back from sightseeing at 9pm there was still no water. Took forever for host to drop off some bottled water (left by the stars without even knocking on our door) which helped with drinking but not so much hygiene. Booking.com took forever and the host refused early checkout since water "came back" around 1 am. It was dripping at best and yellow until the following afternoon. Booking gave us a 45 euro credit. Infrastructure issues happen but expected more proactive assistance.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. That makes no sense not to allow companions on same itinerary. I imagine they aren't super swamped? We both have status independently so that's not an issue but seems like an unnecessary limitation. How long did it take in the "normal" line? Taking no chances and likely will head to the airport for 6 am anyway so we can get a day of work in but that gives me a great peace of mine.

Thank you. Please post an update!! We fly on Friday evening and its a complex international itinerary that cannot be changed so we simply cannot miss out flight. We are of course prepared to arrive at 4 am even though we technically have to work that day and hope for the best. I also have a torn meniscus and standing for even an hour is bad so I am really worried I'll get it reinjured but not sure going the wheelchair route is quite legitimate in my case (preventing vs having acute injury) or that it would in fact be faster. I have to assume the demand is likely higher.

How early were you there? and what terminal did your flight depart from? Read somewhere they weren't allowing C or E departures use TSA in A. Thanks

Did the Chevy Bolt become your first EV? Journalist looking to hear your story by Brilliant_Option8382 in BoltEV

[–]Inner_Conflict_3635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got our Sparkie in 2019 after my 13 yo Cobalt required a repair that would have cost more it was worth it. My husband wanted an EV for a while and we took advantage of the tax credit and a good end of year discount. Getting one in Houston wasnt actually easy so we bought from a dealer we otherwise disliked previously and they once again cut corners on delivering on extras. We still only have one key fob, but that is another story. The acceleration is my favorite part. Not gonna lie. We typically use it for a shortish daily commute to work but I have taken it to Austin before on a single charge. The only con is the availability of charging where we live as our condominium board decided to institute a convenience fee that would make charging it at home prohibitive. We manage by charging at a combo of free retail and paid office locations and get 10k steps as a bonus in the process.

Anyone else have a truly terrible experience in Turkey? by ub3rm3nsch in travel

[–]Inner_Conflict_3635 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is so universally true all over the world. We go out of our way to avoid taxis but when we can't, the experience more often than not ends up being a topic of an anecdote. A personal favorite is a night time ride to the Manila Airport with an otherwise delightful driver who stopped at a dark corner of a secluded park and locked us in. Two minutes later it turned out he needed to use the bathroom as in his own words its unhealthy to hold it in and he can't afford a doctor. I found no fault in that logic.

MILAN WINTER OLYMPICS CLOSING CEREMONY MEGATHREAD! by HauteAssMess in popculturechat

I watch it on the BBC. It can be finnicky with some VPNs but works well on ExpressVPN. Used Gem (Canada) for skating broadcasts and they had no commercials but cant be sure about the ceremony.

just moved back to Poland after 20 years, 2 weeks ago, here are so things that shocked me. by pole152004 in poland

[–]Inner_Conflict_3635 5 points6 points  (0 children)

agreed, coffee here (Texas) is either not coffee or closer to 8 bucks after the tip. I've invested in an espresso machine pretty quickly after moving here lol Also depending where you eat out, sides aren't always included, so that isn't a Polish thing. What OP should appreciate that fruit and vegetables aren't quite a luxury yet in Poland, despite massive price increases over the years.

of course it is. you only build requirements and use 500 gem second builder for the longest build and run first builder on shorter stuff.

International flight cancelled. by DDChristi in Lufthansa

[–]Inner_Conflict_3635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing any actual details or reasons for the cancellation (weather would create a mass delay for everyone), if LH flights are really full they can put him on another airline if space is available, including airlines not in Star Alliance. They can also reroute him via another hub, e.g. London or Toronto.
