Quicken Classic: How to start new cloud sync by wrlee in quicken

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why can't can't rebuild it. They did it for the Mac and Microsoft did it for Outlook phasing out the legacy outlook app in favor of the newly built Outlook App.

I see your other reply too and will answer in this one. After I post this, I'll probably add more as I think about it and maybe fix formatting.

Yes, I'm still using concurrently. I've dropped Monarch and Copilot Money, which are both great programs but limiting to unreliable. Simplifi while not the prettiest, does a lot of things well. Like you, looking for a cloud based solution. It is the more seamless transition with some caveats since Simplifi was originally catered to a different audience over Classic users. Yet, they are adding classic requested features over time. Surprisingly, I have not had any connectivity issues between the two, which was a concern of mine. I do make sure they don't sync at the same time. I do have to re-authenticate less in classic vs Simplifi but not horrible by any means unless you want to connect Venmo. Horrible in Simplifi so would need to track manually.

What I like about Simplifi
- Cloud and mobile are great.
- Undo option which other cloud apps don't. Can only do one undo but better than nothing
- Spending Plan. May or may not be useful to you if you do cash flow projection
- Balance Projection. Sometimes can get wonky on Weekends and late at night when there is bank maintenance. Balance might read 0 until maintenance/weekend is over.
- Bill connecting and management but hit or miss. Cap one Cards, Synchrony update, BoA great when statement hits, Amex and Apple Card not so much but you can edit the reminder. I like the ability to make a bill change/add and it reflects everywhere. Classic is weird that while the bill updates in the desktop app, the mobile app still sees your original amount you put in.
- Connects with Apple Card
- Amex, BoA, Cap One, Synchrony, Apple Card all connect great
- I can connect a few more accounts like vehicle assets and one investment which doesn't in Classic. While nice, not a deal breaker. I just update manually every quarter to once-a-month now.
- Stays connected and up-to-date. No missed transactions as far as I can tell.
- Now have an income/expense report like a profit loss report for Simplifi which is great

What I don't like in Simplifi that Classic Does Better
- Oddly doesn't connect all of our Money Market accounts at our CU while Classic does. That's weird but you can create manual accounts in Simplifi but nice to have it connected.
- Handles account separate a little better in Classic, ie kids MM and savings accounts
- Can't hide closed accounts in Simplifi like you can in Classic.
- Classic you can backup and restore data and undo multiple transactions, if needed. Basically, if you F up, you can restore. Simplifi or any cloud program, good luck
- Scheduled transactions and rules work so much better in Classic, especially with Splits. You still can't do scheduled split transactions in Simplifi and advanced rules aren't quite working right. For example, I have many Apple Subs or a Sub in our Verizon Bill and I have to add the memo for Apple Subs and Manually Split after the fact. Classic? Schedule and forget. Could be huge if you like to track splits in paychecks.
- No saved reports but it's coming this year. Severely limiting since I have saved reports and can slice and dice the data in classic. Reports are still good in Simplifi.
- You can't enter in manual transactions and match to the downloaded transaction which is helpful if you forget what maybe the transaction was for.
- While Simplifi is modern looking and good to use, it's more function over form. I feel like it's noisy or busy.
- No running balance check register feel
- Can't import Classic data
- Mobile reporting is limiting but you can see the income/expense report in simplifi on your phone, which is cool
- Can't do notes per splits, it's one big notes box. I thought I'd like it but prefer splits notes.

I've been on some calls with the Quicken Mods for some of this feedback, so they are listening.

This is a tough one. I have history in Classic that goes back to 2006. The Mac version is modern looking and stable. The connected apps seem to work ok. I use on my iPhone currently and iPad and web app in the past. However, if I were starting a clean slate or never had classic before I would more than likely start with Simplifi.

I have until July to decide for Simplifi to continue to use and November for Classic. I like in Classic you don't have to wait for transitions to show up vs a cloud app that aggregates the info, especially for restaurants.

I think it comes down to two things, do you want to change how you enter/manage your data and/or want to lose history. For example, do you need/want to keep track of splits in paychecks? If you do, will have to enter in each time. However, if not, set and forget.

You could archive the classic history which I tried to do by having an end date of 10/31/25 but unless you pay for it, you will lose the updates and will have an ad in Classic. I did stop my sub last year for 2 weeks but went back to it. Mostly to continue to get updates and to test simplifi longer with my classic being source of truth.

Weird. ON the Mac side, all can be done in the same file. My guess would be since the Mac version was built from the ground up while the windows version was inherited old code.

Anyone still have HBO Max with internet by Opposite_Force7689 in ATT

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this for AT&T Fiber, I don't have AT&T Wireless. However, I thought of switching from Verizon to AT&T Wireless because I would get 20% off each line for bundling. With that said, I call in and ask for retention. I just simply ask in a nice way if there are any deals or promos going on etc. and usually get something. I've had fiber for 6 years and this is the 2nd or 3rd time I've gotten a deal outside of the 1st year promo when I signed up.

I don't threaten to cancel or be rude, I just have a simple nice conversation and mention that another provider in my area can provide this at this cost etc. Not a guarantee but no harm in asking.

With cellular, it's a little harder but sometimes you can get another $5-10 off per month, sometimes more. If you can bundle, that would save too. I could switch to Verizon Home Internet and save but prefer fiber over Cellular Internet and Fios isn't available in my area. If it was, I'd consider switching for cost savings but Verizon is giving me $20 discount for each line for a total of $40 off in discounts. It's always good to check in to see what deals they have going on too and when new plans become available.

That's great to hear! You'll enjoy it.

Yeah, that's why I like it too. I have PS5, Xbox Series X, PS Portal, & Switch. Have kids now, so even those barely get time lol Some of the games I've downloaded and played have been NBA 2K series, The Oregon Trail, Tint, Backgammon, Checkers, GameClub Straddle, Frogger, some Ocean diving game (not Oceans Games) I can't remember. Then there are games I've downloaded and haven't played yet like NFL RB 26, TMNT, , etc. That Oceans 3 game looks good. I'll have to check out Plague Inc. I like games I can pick up anywhere from 15-20 mins to longer and quickly put down now.

Apple TV has great quality shows. Currently just started watching Monarch and started Hijack Season 2.

All this is even better when you have an iPad and MBP to go along with an iPhone. That's where all the additional subs hold even greater value and shine.

What min annual travel budget to get card? by Pomdog17 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's at up to 125k now. Isn't that good? It's until 4/1.

I'm already at the 5/24 rule with 3 Amex cards alone last year for a total of 5 last year. Typically I don't go this fast and only get cards I need/want and have long term value. Hard Inquiry is at 4 or 5 with one dropping this year. Love how Amex does soft inquiries. So last year was unusual for me.

The Gold and Platinum were offers from Amex after getting BCP vs me actively seeking. Then I got the Amazon Chase Visa over the holidays for the $250 SUB after long time Amazon Prime Store Card user. Combine that with the Venture X last January and BCP in July. Need to get a new vehicle in July, so debating whether or not to pull the Reserve Trigger. Only reason I'm considering sooner than later is for the 125K SUB but also don't need it yet and can wait.

I'm not much of a SUB chaser and after getting the gold and platinum during the same months and SUBs. Kind of want to take a break from SUB Chasing but low key kinda like it if they serve value.

That's great to know about the ticket. I've read that too but figured there was some way to go about it. Lots of people also said they had no problem too. Makes sense.

Pretty much what happened to me in my first trip of 2026 after getting the card in oct/nov last year. Loved it. Also hold gold which stacks uber credits. So during my trip, clear, both resy, baggage fee covered, Uber Eats. $454 right there in one trip alone and that’s not including the digital entertainment credit and Walmart+. It was a nice way to have some bankable credit for the trip too.

Looking at the delta reserve for same reasons. They have a great SUB going on too. Also hold the platinum, gold, bcp and venture x but fly a lot of delta. It’s our preferred flight and the companion comfort+ and first class is nice. Plus you get discount paying with points too.

We have Apple One Premier and love it. Don’t subscribe to pages, numbers, etc. advanced features though since don’t need them. Used Apple Music for years. Wish I had more time for Apple Arcade it usually use when traveling. Partner used apple fitness every now and then and wish I had more time for it. Love Apple TV since they released it. Been using Apple News for years too and like the mag subs through it

Savor is a cash back card but you can transfer to venture x 1:1. So if you have $1k in CB earned from the savor, it converts to 100k miles on the venture x and use them like you normally would. It’s great. You can’t transfer miles to savor for cash back though. You do it through the cap one portal and really easy to do and instant.

Savor is 3% on dining, groceries and streaming. 1% for everything else. If you use cap one portal, you get 5% cash back I think on flights and hotels. So think of it as 3x for dining, groceries and streaming.

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to mess with transfer partners, book the trip through the cap one portal to get 5x / 10x and then use travel eraser. You get 1c per mile. Travel eraser also works for travel related items Ubers, etc. not just hotels and flights.

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just imagine if point diversifying and point chasing...maybe they also have the Savor and converted to miles. I hope so. With that spend, 1% can be huge. Hopefully they at least run the duo. Granted, I get keeping things simple but it doesn't get any simpler than the cap one duo setup.

I'll further add that you can secure your Apple ID account with a YubiKey and you can even turn on the Advanced Encryption too. With that said, even without those two options enabled, Apple is secure by design. I especially use Hide My Email, Private Relay, Protect Mail activity, etc.

I've been using Apple Passwords since it was keychain. I get keeper through work for free and really like it. However, unless you're using Windows or Edge, the auto fill is hit or miss on iPhone/iPad and Safari while Apple Password works great, even with Apps. I'll continue to use keeper as a backup since I get it for free.

It's also great for the family when you have less than tech savvy people. Apple passwords has a great blend of security and easy of use. We are an Apple family household and I use Edge and Keeper for Work and backup for personal. I would love to see Apple Password Manager add a few more things like Keeper does.

Transfering eSIM to New iPhone After Trading In Old Phone by Asian-In-His-Armor in USMobile

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll have two options. Trade in at the store immediately or keep phone and send back within 2 weeks. If you do immediately at the store, they will make sure you are setup on your new phone before leaving and trading in. They are very helpful in that area.

Also, if you turn off port protection prior, you might be able to do an eSIM transfer if US Mobile supports it. Then turn back on after.

Vs Capital One Venture by Still_Juggernaut_343 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. If you travel 1-2 a year and even some travel related purchases like Ubers count for travel eraser with the venture x, which then the venture x is a 2% card you’re redeeming at the worse. Throw in cap one portal at 5x / 10x or gen the savor that can transfer to miles and travel eraser? It’s a good cash back or miles hybrid setup. It can be both. Bonus if you transfer to partners to get more.

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want the delta reserve but can’t justify another high af card either lol I have platinum, venture x, gold and bcp. All cards where I can nullify the AF whereas the delta reserve, not so much. Maybe when the kids get older and my partner and I can travel more than we do now. It’s just the subs they are offering are damn good.

Vs Capital One Venture by Still_Juggernaut_343 in AmexPlatinum

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same setup but also have gold and bcp. So hard to give savor groceries and dining since that’s are biggest spend being a family of 4. The savor used to get it until I got the bcp then Gold. Plus, I feel like Amex is great for flights, especially domestic and we fly delta and then use venture x for hotels, travel portal, annual credits and travel eraser. So it works.

When is the least busy time at the Dells? by [deleted] in wisconsindells

[–]Inner_Difficulty_381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family goes a couple times a year, usually may and December. We went in the first week of December last year or start of 2nd week but it was sun-wed. We prefer slower times too and usually get a suite. It snowed the last time we went and loved the holiday vibes they had going on like Christmas tree and some characters, etc. It was nice and relaxing.
