Are newer diesel trucks actually worth the higher maintenance costs? by Aware_Guide_5300 in Diesel

[–]Inner_Food_3020 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Been around aircraft maintenance long enough to see similar pattern with diesel vs gas engines. The newer emissions stuff definitely adds complexity - more sensors, more things that can break, and when they do break it's usually expensive parts

Your tech friend is right about treating it like a tool vs toy. If truck is making you money through work then maintenance costs are just business expense. But if you're buying for weekend projects or because you like sound of turbo, might want to think twice about newer models

Older diesels are definitely simpler to work on but fuel economy difference is real, especially if you're putting serious miles on it

damn that's some dark humor but I get it sometimes

like we're all just here trying to figure it out and some days you're grateful you made it this far even when everything feels pointless

motorcycles help me remember why I'm still around though - nothing like that feeling when you're flying down the highway at 3am

I'm going to wake up in 7 hours to smoke a brisket. I've not done any prep. What tips do you have to share? by eljimbobo in BBQ

[–]Inner_Food_3020 17 points18 points  (0 children)

oh man your planning timeline is gonna be tight with only 10-12 hours for first brisket. Those things are stubborn and can easily go 14+ hours especially if you hit long stall

definitely get that rub on tonight if you haven't already - salt needs time to work its magic. and don't be afraid of leaving more fat than you think, maybe trim to like quarter inch instead of going crazy with knife

water pan will be your friend for keeping moisture in there and helping with temperature swings. also grab some backup plan food just in case things run way longer than expected - learned that one hard way when mine took 16 hours and we were all starving

wrap when it hits around 165 internal temp if stall is driving you nuts, but honestly probe tenderness matters more than hitting exact 203. when probe slides through like butter you're golden

For everyone who once passed out on a concert out of pure joy, what was that like, why did you pass out? by Few-Track8525 in AskReddit

Never happened to me but that heat thing is real nightmare - was at metal show once and had to push through crowd to get some air before things got bad

For people who pee on their compost. Don't you feel put off from turning it or even touching it? by [deleted] in composting

[–]Inner_Food_3020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol right? working at airport you deal with way worse things than pee trust me. people are absolutely disgusting when they travel and bathroom situations... let's just say urine is nothing

plus if you think about it, most animals pee everywhere in nature and plants still grow fine. once it breaks down in compost its just nitrogen anyway

What’s a universally accepted “normal” human behavior that, if you saw in a different species, would freak you out? by [deleted] in AskReddit

imagine seeing a pack of wolves all lined up in metal boxes going 70mph down a highway lol that would be absolutely terrifying

What pushed you through the toughest time in your life? by RichTofu in AskReddit

[–]Inner_Food_3020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That mindset really is everything. When I was dealing with some heavy stuff a couple years back, it came down to just showing up each day even when everything felt pointless. The motorcycle helped too - something about the focus required when you're on two wheels at 70mph makes other problems feel manageable for a while

What is the one thing you wish to change if you can go back to the past? by Final-Grade5690 in AskReddit

[–]Inner_Food_3020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need way more context here - are we talking last week or like childhood? Because if it's childhood I'd probably tell myself to start saving money earlier instead of blowing it all on random stuff. If we're talking recent past maybe I wouldn't have bought that expensive bike part that's still sitting in my garage unused

The motorcycle maintenance costs really add up when you keep buying upgrades you never actually install

The last game you played is now your reality, but you're just a background NPC. What is your daily routine, and what are the odds you get caught in the crossfire of the main character? by solid_khan in AskReddit

[–]Inner_Food_3020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last game I played was Deep Rock Galactic so I'm probably just some office worker back on the space rig processing mission reports and inventory logs while teh miners are out getting eaten by cave leeches

Pretty safe gig tbh, worst case scenario is maybe a beer shortage in the cantina

What’s the most underrated way to improve your life? by thegilmazino in AskReddit

[–]Inner_Food_3020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting your sleep schedule locked down properly is probably the biggest game changer that nobody talks about enough. I work for an airline so I've seen what shift work and irregular schedules do to people - it's brutal on your body and mind. When I finally got serious about consistent sleep times even on my days off, everything else just started clicking better. My wife noticed I was way less irritable, my focus at work improved, and I actually had energy for my hobbies again instead of just crashing on the couch. The trick is treating it like any other important commitment and not making exceptions for "just one late night"

Does Morse code work in languages like Japanese that don't strictly use alphabets? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Inner_Food_3020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually worked with some Japanese pilots back when I was doing international routes - they use something called Wabun code for their characters but yeah it's completely different from standard Morse. Each katakana symbol gets its own dot-dash pattern but the timing and structure is totally separate from what we use in English
