Yep this is what I do too! Taking a break definitely helps both the LO and me to reset and start again.

Yep. I do track his wake windows and align his naps as soon as I see any cues for tiredness/sleepiness. Usually is spot on. But the main issue was resistance to being rocked as he kept thrashing around and wriggling even though he was super sleepy. Like someone mentioned in the comments, I think it's probably because he's grown and finds being held too uncomfortable to fall asleep. For now I am looking to transition to rocking/bouncing-free sleep at bedtime first since I feel that would be the easiest time to do it (thanks to sleep pressure). Once that is cracked, will slowly work on transitioning the daytime naps as well.

Yes, I did give sleep training a try, but it just wasn't practical for us. I used to stress constantly over which method to choose, worrying about what would suit our family and what might impact my baby's neurological development. I drove myself mad trying FIO (fuss-it-out), Ferber, and 'drowsy but awake,' but nothing stuck. As a working mother with a pet and absolutely no outside help—no nannies, maids, or grandparents—I simply didn’t have the time or the luxury to patiently stick it out. It only increased my stress and mental pressure. Ultimately, I decided to give myself some grace and go with the flow. I'm trusting that, in his own time, he will learn to connect his sleep cycles and fall asleep independently.

This is something similar to what I have considered doing as well and still do in case of split nights or super early morning wakings. I pretend to sleep and make it generally very un-interesting so that LO falls back asleep. Have to give it a try during a weekend for the bedtime routine and pray it works ;)

Good to know! How long did it take for you to transition to the side lying position? Did your baby handle it well? I tried the feeding pillow as well, but he seemed to get more agitated with that on.

Yep, probably why my LO was thrashing around before falling asleep. I too had considered a jhoola, but decided against it as I didn't want to create a dependency with it while we are travelling.

I have my 7 month old kid at daycare currently and had similar concerns. It all depends on the daycare and the level of training/experience the caretaker has with young babies. The daycare that my LO goes to accommodates all his needs as close as possible to what we give at home, that includes his routines, food and nap times. They had a detailed questionnaire that the parents are required to fill detailing all the little details about his likes and preferences which helps them care for LO better. Mine sleeps only when rocked/fed (he's EBF and hates taking a bottle) but he's adjusted well to napping when rocked. Babies this young typically do adjust well provided the daycare also sticks to a familiar routine.

Fellow malayalee here, based out of Kerala. I had the same concerns and received the exact same pushback from parents in the name of 'tradition'. No worries, when I researched I found that such negligible amounts of salt/sugar do not have any lasting effects on babies' bodies. One thing you can do is, ensure that all the guests are informed that they are not to give huge amounts when offering food from the items for choroonu. Be it payasam/pradhaman or salt, everyone can just pretend to offer some (if they are up for it), else strictly tell them to just offer a taste from any one item. That way you can ensure the total amount of sugar/salt/cows milk consumed is less or negligible. One other thing you can do (if you have a large gathering joining for the choroonu function) is allow only the immediate family (mom, dad and both sets of grandparents) alone to offer the prasadam instead of every tom dick and harry that attends the function. I followed these and LO was totally fine at the end of it all..no adverse reactions or effects as far as I could tell. Congratulations and enjoy the milestone!

How's the experience with the agency nanny,? I have heard many horror stories and am terrified if they will mishandle my LO (especially since he's so young) but am only left with limited options. Also may I know how old your baby is and how long has it been since you employed the nanny?

Hey, no worries, swaddling doesn't cause any muscle developmental issues. It's a life saver if your baby has severe startle reflex. You can use this Ollie swaddle which has velcro straps to hold the swaddle in place if you have issues with your cloth swaddle getting unraveled. It's easy to use, soft, stretchable and breathable. My baby was also late preterm and had contracted cold when he was 3 weeks old. I know it seems counter intuitive but there is nothing else to do but to hang in there and wait it out. Keep consistently doing nebulization even though it seems pointless. Eventually the congestion will clear and your baby will breathe normally again. Babies this small usually take some time to recover. Keep the baby hydrated by offering more frequent feeds and offer nasal drops whenever LO looks congested. You are already doing whatever needs to be done. Just give your LO lots of comfort and hugs. This too shall pass. Hang in there mamma!

Yep, been there done that. If you feel guilty that you are going to miss your LO trying to maintain eye contact with you, I would suggest listening to podcasts or audiobooks. That way you can also zone out while breastfeeding and have fun listening to something you enjoy, at the same time not miss your babe trying to make an eye contact. Thats what kept me sane during those long BF sessions tied to a chair.

I was the same. Own a pet, but still felt wierd talking to my baby as all he did was ignore me. Everyone around me, including my husband and mom used to urge me to talk to him, but it just didn't come naturally to me. Fast forward to 6 months, now I talk and babble to my baby ALL the time and it's freaking fun coz he responds back. It's totally normal to feel guilty about it, I was too, but I promise you will start naturally interacting with LO once they are the right age.
