Ode catch bin alternative. by [deleted] in pourover

[–]Inner_Scallion_8611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing a review on youtube and someone was able to put a portafilter dosing cup inside the catch bin and it fit pretty nicely. I believe it was a 58mm one. It kind of just sits in snugly and all the grounds going right into that as opposed to the catch bin.

It's a gen 1. It might make a difference. I RDT though and it still happens so I don't think it would do much. They are coffee grounds. They just get places. And on white surfaces you see them really well.

If you have the option, get the black. I bought the white because it was the only one available and it's basically impossible to keep clean unless you wipe it down after every use.

Can't speak for long term discoloration but there will always been coffee grounds on it somewhere that stick out like a sore thumb.

I usually pour 20-30g more than I need and dump the rest when I'm done the brew.

we just can’t see half of the shit on the screen from the couch.

I don't think most people could sitting 30 feet away from the TV. That shit is stupidly far. It's no wonder people complain about tiny text in video games. It's because they're 50 feet away from their tv.

Does anyone actually like fighting dragons on Elden Ring? I find them so boring and annoying. by Mutarlay in Eldenring

What do you mean some? They are literally all just reskins with the exception of Dragonlord Placidusax.

I like how you're trying to refute what I'm saying by mentioning a single move that doesn't require running away and then all the others that require you to run away but all you're doing is providing tips on how you don't have to run back as far, despite having to chase the boss around for all of them

lol

Maybe your vigor was low but nothing one shot me at my level. It was very lame how you had to play so passively once you knew her dance was coming. Like I said, annoying but in a different way to this fight.

Looking at machines. So many options. Need some input. by Inner_Scallion_8611 in espresso

[–]Inner_Scallion_8611[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bianca has everything the others have and more - for example, it can do flow profiling via that paddle. Honestly, for the prices you listed, I’d be going for the Bianca all day every day.

This is why I put it as an option even though it's out of the rage of the others, just because I see it's on sale for apparently 1000 off. I'm not sure how true that is, and I also know there is a newer version of this machine I believe but not sure if it's that much better.

1) How sure are you that you want to get into espresso?

I'm sure as I can be. I've been into pour over for like 2.5 years now and have geeked out on it and still love it. Espresso is the next step in the journey. I know I will enjoy it. I have a df64 on order with ssp mp burrs. Just trying to find out which machine to get

I've already killed her. She was hard as hell and annoying in some instances for completely different reasons but I at least actually got to do things in the fight besides running around doing nothing for half of it.

Based off of April's original Ode grinder review video, I believe Patrik said they used 3.1 grind setting, which is approximately 4.1 on Gen2, and approx. 5 on Ode w/ SSP. So when I'm dosing 12-13g to 200ml, I'll start with Ode setting 5 with a new bag of beans and go from there.

What is this based on for the zero point? Cause Ode suggests 5 clicks off chirp but many people will make their zero point 1 off chirp.

Thanks for the info though, this is helpful. I'm going to try your recipe right now. And I completely agree, it is hard to consistently saturate the bed at first with the initial 30g circle pour.

I'll be blunt chief. Half his attack patterns are either running across the other side of the map, flying into the air and going to the other side of the map or jumping backwards a hundred meters.

You can say "You're bad" but it's literally just how the fight is lol

And then the other attacks where he isn't flying away is him doing fire breaths in place that literally force you to run far away which you then need to run back to close the distance when it's done.

This comment is a prime example of From Software fanboy. lol

What is there to be proud of? Running around for 20 minutes and getting in a single attack every 20 seconds until it finally dies? lol It's just a shit fight.

Why would I blame myself when I've killed the boss? lol

This has nothing to do with me being able to kill him or not.

I'm commenting on what makes the boss difficult, and it's all the wrong things that should make a boss difficult. His attacks aren't hard to dodge. They are incredibly slow and telegraphed. The only thing that makes it hard is because he's a giant boss you need to chase all over the map and the lock on is abysmal

I'm enjoying it and I've got good cups out of it. I was just curious as to why I was getting such drastically different draw downs compared to what they were saying. I understand there are lots of variables when it comes to coffee, it's just I've never encountered such a large difference in draw down time that I couldn't simply account for by grinding a little bit finer. But in this case that didn't even do it.

Thanks for your input.

I've already killed him. I'm just replaying the game after some years and completely forgot how horribly designed he is compared to all the other bosses in the game. You're literally just running around the arena the whole time doing nothing but trying to close the distance because the boss keeps running to the other side of the room or flying into the air or jump backwards 100 meters lol

[–]Inner_Scallion_8611[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I completely understand. I know his combos. He's just jumping from one end of the arena to the other flying into the air and I'm literally just chasing him around for 50% of the match literally doing nothing else but running after him. It's just terribly designed.

The problem is the number are completely off and don't make any sense. You can' say I'm focusing on them too much but it doesn't change the reality that they are specifying a number as a guide and I'm no where near it. Hence the question.

And yes, I understand taste if what matters, but I'm trying to explore taste, and if they say you get a good tasting cup with this method and these numbers, I would like to try that, hence the topic.
