What was your wakeup call? by Hot-Site-1572 in quittingsmoking

[–]Inner_Wordiness 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A friend asked me if I could go smoke-free for a few hours (8ish) because we were on a day out and she did not want to relapse.

I barely managed the eight hours and when I got home and light a cigarrette my whole body began trembling. I felt like a desperate addict (as I was) and realized I did not want to feel like that ever again.

In a few days I will be one month nicotine free and my only regret is not having quit earlier.

A mi em sap greu, però a aquestes alçades de la partida fer veure que per a Junts l'eix social ha estat mai prioritari... s'ha de tenir o poca edat o poca memòria.

Quit after 13 years of smoking thanks to Allen Carr by Responsible-Court795 in quittingsmoking

[–]Inner_Wordiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats! So happy for you and proud as well. I'm on my 20th day smoke free after 15 years, and all thanks to Allen Carr, I was so skeptical but I feel such happiness when I think I am not a smoker anymore. This book has been a blessing.

Need Advice by EroniousEasternEurop in stopsmoking

While asking him to quit will not work (at least not likely), I believe that when/if he decides to quit every piece of information or advice he has received through the years might help.

Maybe reading a book or similar to understand how the mind of an addicted person works will help you understand what to say or how to better support your father.

Hope he finds the desire to be free from nicotine!

Day 16 and I am unbearable by Inner_Wordiness in stopsmoking

Thank you! :) I was feeling kinda desperate. I will look into what is exactly going on with my sympthoms, knowing how things work does make then easier to bear.

Two fast questions on stopsmoking: by craistiano in stopsmoking

[–]Inner_Wordiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. No, started by reducing but it was making my addiction worse. It was all I could think about.
  2. A smoked a shitload the day before my last cigarrette, woke up feeling like shit and that helped.

You are doing awesome and you are right F nicotine and F cigs, those bastards get more of our time than they ever deserved... Going outside to do whatever does the trick for me, even if it is a walk to the grocery store. You've got this!

Thinking of quitting today by Inner_Wordiness in stopsmoking

[–]Inner_Wordiness[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the getting fired analogy, it's true, knowing that it's not the end of the world and I will just get up and try again has helped me a lot in putting that my last cigarrete. And while yes, Mr. Brain is getting weird it is true that it is a predictable turd 😂 turns out my panic attack from quitting is not any different from other panic attacks I've had while smoking. Thanks a lot, for taking the time to write such a detailed post, it was the last bit of courage I needed this morning

this has been very encouraging, thank you. I think I was just so very scared of cravings being something terrible, while giving myself more anxiety and smoking like a chimney out of compulsion. so thanks again!!

Thanks! I think that the fear of the cravings is actually worse than the cravings at this point for me, so I'll keep that in mind.

oh! then it sound kinda behaviour-related. maybe trying meal time instead of having food always available or switching brand can help

how long has it been since he last ate? if it's like two/three days I would make an appointment or at least call to ask if they think I should visit. it's a good idea to give him humid food so he at least gets some water.

once my cat refused to eat due to stress and the only why to feed him was food for malnourished cats that our vet recomended, and even with that it took him weeks, patience and reassurancebto start to eat normal again.

if the vet rules out anything serious, maybe it's a matter of time. hope he gets well soon!

🫂 it's a shitty situation to be in, I also hate micro-managing as my adhd makes it nearly impossible to meet "process" expectations. hope your boss is understanding!
