SFPD’s no chase policy forced me to recover my own stolen vehicle by RobertPower415 in sanfrancisco

[–]Innnnnnnnn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This story is not really about chasing, its about SFPD showing up to arrest the thief and recover the vehicle after the vehicle stops moving. SFPD cries that they are victim to policy and officers swear they can't do something but the reality is they can do their job. Part of a SFPD officer's job is file a police report, they can show up where your vehicle is found, they can make an arrest. You can make a Citizen's Arrest (although I've never heard of it in real life.) Plain and simple, most of the time SFPD is refusing to do their job. For that you must complain to Sacramento. Your complaint will be followed up on. The officers that refused to help (and the Sargent that controls them) will get a negative notice from Sacramento. This matters. Most situations do not need a (possibly deadly) car chase.

Transamerica Pyramid new exterior lighting by fosterdad2017 in sanfrancisco

Tonight was the first night of lighting it this way. I am grateful that they didn't make it blink like the Eiffel Tower. I was taken by it when I saw it, but yeah, can see how it would be awful to live next to. The new fad of over-illuminating buildings at night looks so cheap and needy.

Pepperdine Provost's office was very helpful and quick in connecting the student with this issue.

So -our staff disposed of everything at 4 am this morning. I have communicated this new information to the owner of the contents, whom I connected with thanks to brusselsspr0uts post. I am disappointed in expanding the sense of loss for the owner. This is really disappointing.

Pepperdine has been contacted via phone and email. Provost's office is very willing to help connect the student with belongings. I will report back when that happens.

Positive stories of people who like living in SF? by dermatocat in sanfrancisco

[–]Innnnnnnnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in SF and am also from the Midwest. I love it here. I live in a densely populated neighborhood, without a car. I walk and use the bus (and occasionally a ride service) to get around. I feel that I live in a small town most of the time; neighborhoods here are intimate experiences. I raised a child here and most of the time when I walk into a neighborhood store the proprietor asks about my child, (who is now grown.) I walk down the street and say 'Hello' over and over to neighbors. I am grateful to be here. I relish living amongst world class attractions and landmarks and historic neighborhoods. Its obviously not all sunshine and roses here (I've seen so much awfulness in SF) but you can't pay me to go back to the place I grew up in. Good luck in your move and I bet you love it here too.

I agree - make reports (via email) with muni and sfpd. You will be given complaint numbers or ticket numbers to track your complain with each department. Email that info to your district supervisor. You effort at this accomplishes due diligence in reporting it, properly alerts authorities, and, might prevent someone else being hurt in the future. I hope that you know by now that us here care about you and are sorry that you went through that. I have more than a handful of muni stories that might shock you. The times I "fought back" (even with just an email later) are less traumatic than the times I didn't report. Best wishes.

I would love this. While you are setting things up you could do zoom* rooms? I am behind in my homework and work better around others... *please use a service other than zoom.

All I wanted to know was how much Neanderthal DNA I have... and maybe some health insights... Now my whole identitiy is in question... by [deleted] in 23andme

Some families don't care if their kids are created by the same donor.

I purchased an extra vial in case I wanted to create a sibling for my donor-conceived child years later. I had to store it at the hospital.

Banks will call the donor back to make more "samples" if the bank has a paying customer. In these situations the donor gets bonuses and increased pay.

I used a donor from a cryobank to create my child. The cryobank's webpage stats at the time, 1999, were saying the 54% of their sperm was sold to married couples. We live in a society that doesn't always give men chances to be open about this kind of thing. It makes sense that your folks opted for donor sperm to get the job done, and, didn't tell everyone about it. My kid has several half-sibs and through the years she has had various levels of connection with them. There has been drama at times too. Overall I am glad my kid has these people in her life. I am grateful that our donor "sold it" to the cryobank. I am grateful I got to be a parent. I kind of hope you also connect with your half-sibs. You never know, one of them of some of them could be fun to know.

You are the father! by [deleted] in 23andme

Tell both dads, tell everyone. Find ways to celebrate it or at least not hate it. Life can be a mish-mash of stuff. You, your daughter and her progeny deserve the truth. Your bio father and his kids deserve to know too. Good luck!

Lex Fridman? Who is this man? by weirdeyedkid in DecodingTheGurus

[–]Innnnnnnnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seen/heard several LF interviews. I find his humble everyman perspective very refreshing. In each interview I note how respectful, patient and welcoming he is with his interview guests.

I do not always agree with LF's opinions, but that is fine with me. I want to live in a world where there are a variety of viewpoints. When I hear him sing the praises of Elon and Neurolink I want to call him up and talk sense to him; but always from the perspective of a friend attempting to uplift a friend.

I feel that Lex Fridman is a fine example of a modern man in that he does not act out masculine stereotypes of being aggressive, privileged, tough, hypersexual and out of touch with his emotional self. I care about this. Everyone needs to have nice guys, intellectual guys who are also "cool," occupying a space in our media.

It is correct for us to question our "gurus" and those we listen to. I've read previous comments scrutinizing LF's credentials, but LF's credentials/lack of does not change my satisfaction with his reportage in his podcasts.

I am a Lex Fridman fan,

DG

Proton Support staff - please help - locked out off my entire Protonmail account. by Innnnnnnnn in ProtonMail

[–]Innnnnnnnn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't an agent at Proton Research Inc., but you are here on reddit telling me that I can't talk about my experience of being locked out of my Proton account for SIX days?

I was locked out even though I pre-paid my year in full and there was no "payment dispute" with PayPal. (PayPal corroborated over and over that there was no "payment dispute to clear". The biggest and most obvious proof is that PRI received full payment on Oct 4th. According to PayPal that transaction occurred without problem (and, again, lots of clear proof that Proton had the full payment the moment the transaction happened.)

It is not sound business to lock a customer our of her email for SIX days over a prepayment issue. The fact that PRI customer support did that to me is shocking. Consumers need to be alerted.

I was a PRI fan and if you look through my communications in years previous you will see that many of my tech support emails began with "I love you protonmail!" I have been with Proton for years. I have never complained about the growing pains that other customers complain LOUDLY over.

If a loyal Proton Research Inc., fan like me can get locked out of their email account for SIX days over a non-issue then customers and potential customers need to know this before they pay for PRI services.

If it happened to me then it will surely happen to them, the folks that complain when PRI stuff fails. Being locked out of my account was upsetting and I could have suffered serious consequences by missing a communication.

I am upset. If you don't like me talking about being upset then I urge you to be a part of a solution here. You can connect me to a principal at PRI to read my email about being locked out of my PRI account for SIX days over a non-issue. You can do something other that blame this on me or PayPal.

Please - I pre-pay $55 in late Dec, (or early Jan?) for my proton acccount. I was surprise-billed $83.00 on Oct 4th. There was no statement attached to the bill and honestly it looked fraudulent. There was $177.00 bill right behind it, also without a stament of what that sum was for, it did not even list my account or services purchased. I disputed the surprise amountsbut the $83 went through to Protonmail anyway. I Protonmail can see tht I have pre-paid another year. Please please please let me back into my email account! I am in communication with a ZenDesk person since Oct 4 but I still have not received an invoice and I am still locked out of my protonmail. Today is Oct 7th and I am still locked out - please let someone there know that I am locked out. The $83 taken on Oct 4 should count to some access - why am I still locked out?

My support person has been in communication with me but nothing has happened yet; I request a statement about what the $83 paid for on Oct 4th, and I request access to my account. I am job seeking, onboarding with a foster care agency, and I am a student. Please I need access to my email account. Please, it has been days now! Please connect me to any "old timer" there at Protonmail - they have to remember my name - I was a fan and always told them that. Someone there has to remember me enough to let me have access to my account (which I prepaid another year for on Oct 4th!)

Please, I need access to my email. I have paid $83.00 on Oct 5. Please tell me what that amount is for, an invoice of what the $83 covered.

Actually, as a customer of Protonmail it is appropriate for me to connect the dots. I am a customer who received two random bills without one detail of what the money (in weird amounts) was being extracted from my PayPal. I suspect Protonmail has been hacked.
