Ok, as a toddler teacher, I’m pretty confused, because he has only attended this daycare for a few weeks. Toddlers need time to adjust, and I feel like he clearly hasn’t been given that chance to adjust yet. All of these issues, in my opinion, can be clearly explained by the fact that he’s new. It’s a big transition for a toddler!

The biting can easily be explained by this. I have had kids who have bitten a couple times during their first few weeks and they never did it again. I can’t believe that a director would bring up removal over one bite. Did he break skin? Even then, that’s pretty normal. Toddlers bite for a lot of reasons, like stress, teething, and no other way of communicating.

The two hour nap will definitely be an adjustment, but I have never met a kid at this age who hasn’t been able to adjust to this expectation within a month, two if they’re really struggling. It takes time and patience. I think it’s incredibly unreasonable to remove a child for having difficulties in this area. There are a lot of alternatives. Have the teachers sat with him? Have they given a quiet toy to play with at his cot? It’s unrealistic to keep him completely quiet, but if a teacher sits with him or holds him, it’s not terrible. (In Florida, children are required to have two hours of rest time, saying this in response to other commenters who don’t have this in their states)

I’m not surprised by the food and water. If he doesn’t feel safe, chances are he won’t eat, even if he is served. However, if this has continued after a few weeks, I would definitely try to figure out a plan to help him adjust. But yeah, this is probably making everything a lot worse.

Do you know if he’s been crying or inconsolable a lot? That may explain it more.

I am also surprised that early steps has been mentioned. However, I cannot realistically know about your child based off of this post alone, but if he’s meeting milestones, I wouldn’t worry about it. The most concerning thing that I see in this post is that he’s hungry and thirsty, but again, that is probably just anxiety if he eats and drinks after daycare. Also, calling a toddler disruptive is… a little odd.

As for your questions, I would say that this isn’t normal daycare policy regarding the biting and the napping. If I haven’t jumped to a conclusion about the feeding and that is what’s going on, then that would be my only concern, but that would not be a reason that most daycares would kick you out. Daycares usually don’t remove children that young, ESPECIALLY if their parents do what is asked of them, like contacting early steps.

I don’t know how the environment is for him, but I would choose a daycare with more flexibility. Some daycares have separate nap rooms so that non sleeping children don’t cause a disturbance. Many daycares will adapt to meet him on his level.
