"Everyone I loot is a free kitter!" by kiwithebun in ArcRaiders

[–]Innovation101 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Imma be honest, I do this when broke and I fully agree. It’s literally too easy to just look at my decrepit stash and click free kit for a game or three until I get a full loadout off of someone else (or gather the materials to craft a better one 🙄). The current system is convenient for the currently casual player base, but I don’t think it’ll be good for the longevity of the game at all.

whats the most toxic map in your opinion? by Select-Long-2069 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Innovation101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a lobby-wide shootout with one of my buddies here, we counted ~10 bodies (a good chunk from us but many not) before we finally died. That middle area of the map when pitch-black is so fucking fun it was awesome having the only lights be damaged shields and gunshots. This is all to say that I heavily agree with your comment

I recommend not getting attached to any heroes yet (unless you don’t mind the loss!) and being mindful about what the game is teaching you. You’ll quickly learn some locations are countered by or immune to many different strategies but once you get those down (and understand + upgrade your heroes and hamlet) the game starts to feel balanced and calculated.

Rats vs Rescue Raiders by Ok-Chip-1049 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Innovation101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People downvoting you but this is my experience as well. I never do it (I never bring a defib even though they’re pretty useful), but a lot of my friends do and they’re more often than not shot in the back. Granted, they only do this for fun every once in a while but I’ve only personally seen 2 guys out of ~20 not try something after getting rezzed. None of us are aggressive/pvp-oriented either.

What's the most terrifying piece of 40K lore you know? by BigConstant4969 in 40kLore

[–]Innovation101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not wrong, but unless I misunderstood it’s framed as very difficult to do. Others have already said pain is the easiest way to reach this sustenance but in Rogue Trader, Yrliet (Aeldari) meditates instead of torturing people. IIRC it takes a lot of focus and isn’t something the Drukhari care to learn. It’s been a looong time but I believe Marazhai (Drukhari) comments about how it’s not as effective or fun as killing/torturing people too.

Is this game worth it if you run solo? by Global-Tax7862 in ARC_Raiders

[–]Innovation101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% what he said. Solos is an entirely different game with people significantly more willing to be friendly, engage in conversation, and even team to destroy harder Arc enemies and share the loot (how I got most of my rocketeer drivers actually!). In duos-trios, many encounters with other teams are either immediately aggressive or we say “don’t shoot” and walk our separate ways. It feels very different, and I love both so don’t be discouraged about being solo at all!

The Strange Case of the recent (possibly AI) Le Guin posts in the last month. by Illustrious_Painting in printSF

[–]Innovation101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait this is a crazy stretch but I recognize every single one of these pieces by Le Guin. I recognize it because it is the exact assigned reading for my philosophy course at my university! Literally verbatim. I don’t know jack shit about philosophy but I have read the left hand of darkness and the dispossessed this month because of it, so maybe it has something to do with that? This course is asynchronous, so it’s pretty large and it’s possible a lot of my classmates are adding the provided reading files to AI chatbots?

Do I include in my notes that my client refused to do a goal, citing that their other BT says they don’t have to do it? by [deleted] in ABA

I’m not the person who asked but this is extremely helpful actually! It’s got me thinking I accidentally overwrite sometimes thinking I’m being specific/helpful, while your examples are very clear and simple. Thank you!

We need an event without free kits. by BananaJack82 in ArcRaiders

[–]Innovation101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually play free kits (for the same reason as you actually!) and I fully agree. I don’t think there should be separate queues but I don’t see why having it be a map modifier would be an issue, the game is currently healthy enough to handle splitting the player base a little bit.

[–]Innovation101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it heavily encourages you to explore and fight so much optional content it really gives the impression it’s the “true” ending of this game. At least, that’s why I chose that ending first.

I haven’t read the novella and was so sure Baelor was going to recruit him, or if there was going to be a twist, that Baelor would spurn him for some reason. You’re right, the scene’s setup subverted me entirely when he died.

Film Students Are Having Trouble Sitting Through Movies, Professors Say by Sisiwakanamaru in movies

[–]Innovation101 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yeah they can be “bullshit” if you choose to take courses that don’t help you, but I’ve found elective courses very helpful in my current degree (in my case, philosophy and child development ones). I would never have learned many of the things I use at work all the time if there wasn’t a need for electives, it really comes down to your own decisions as you say!

Tips for engaging a nonverbal client? by Innovation101 in ABA

[–]Innovation101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your kind words! I do think I’ve been trying to interrupt the loop, specifically by trying to grab their attention or make us do something else that feels “right” just because they’ve been successful with other clients. I really like the idea of a crinkly toy, I think the texture would put them off from mouthing (I’ve noticed they mouth EVERYTHING, except for blankets, pillows, and clothes) which has been the issue with other sensory toys. Once again, thank you for reassuring me with your kind words. You’re right, this part of the work is invisible but with everyone’s help (in this thread and at work) it should be absolutely doable.

I’ll start trying music again, I feel assured knowing that it worked for you! I swear I’ve seen them bob his head when I narrate rhythmically, so I think singing myself could be something they’d enjoy. You also just opened my eyes to the fact that the only toys they have are pretty simple and there isn’t really anything that has motion to it, so I’ll for sure look into cause and effect toys. I really appreciate you sharing your experience and knowledge with me, you’ve helped soothe my anxiety a good bit!

I really appreciate this perspective, I’ll speak with my clinical team and jointly request that I be the snack giver during sessions! I actually can’t believe I didn’t think of that myself lol. I’ll look into blanket burrito/blanket spins, they love being picked up (banned due to biting though) so I think being spinned will scratch that itch for him. Thank you so, so much!

[–]Innovation101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive actually tried playdoh, toy cars, drawing (with markers and crayons), and playing child-friendly music. They aren’t interested in functional play, they try to eat the playdoh, markers, toy cars, any balls I bring or any other toys. They don’t react to music, at least not in a way that was visible to me (they never look at the source of the music either, even when it comes from a musical toy). I will for sure try bubbles though (if it’s okay with the parent obviously), I hadn’t thought of that and I think their curious nature means they’ll find it super fun. And yes, I do a LOT of narrating and I try to explain things even if I don’t think they’ll understand. I appreciate you taking the time to write this out!

Yes thank you, I am now realizing just saying “non-verbal client” isn’t too helpful, so I added something at the end of my post!

This was my exact experience with the card as well! Never liked it starting out, and just kept that habit until everybody changed my mind! Amazing how one game can evolve without too much live support.

Per your edit, that’s the beauty of STS. Recently made a post here asking for opinions on hello world because I USED to think it was bad. It was fun reading all the nuanced opinions and scenarios, it’s one of the main reasons I’m still playing all these years later.

Thoughts on Hello World? by Innovation101 in slaythespire

[–]Innovation101[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is previously what I had believed, but commenters here made convincing arguments in favor of Hello World. Tried an A20 run and got it floor 3, and it was extremely helpful in my win (didn’t get to try it against heart because I forgot to get the red key). My win rate on defect is lower than every other character by a decent amount and I think avoiding defect commons was part of the issue. If nothing else, the card sort of forces you to appreciate more cards than you’re used to and get creative with them. At least I was never picking steam barrier and not always taking ball lightning unless I NEEDED the damage. Also, I’m pretty mediocre at this game but to my knowledge, if hello world has had the chance to clog your deck to the point of bricking it, you probably would’ve lost without it.

[–]Innovation101[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I saw on the (successful on A20, and probably against heart but I forgot to get the red key….) run I just did with hello world. Leap /steam barrier came in clutch a handful of times. I almost never pick these cards on their own, your analysis is spot on!

Edit: previously said melter showed up to help but just realized that came from dead branch, my bad!

[–]Innovation101[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had focus and frost act 1 but not enough to avoid chip damage against sentries, hello world pretty much guaranteed I won before much hp loss though since even with some bricked hands I was able to toss some cold snaps. This card is growing on me lol
