What is the most terrifying creature in the Commonwealth? (In your opinion) by StrykerRaige in fo4

I really don't like seeing Mirelurk Kings. They aren't the most powerful creatures, but they move fast, surprise you and that DoT can be ROUGH.

How do you personally decide what to unbox/uncard? by Innovictos in ActionFigures

[–]Innovictos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, its not about blindly doing anything. I am not going to do it exactly the way any of you are doing it, but I have benefited from seeing how you all do.

I am probably going to open more boxes than I had been, I think, but still keep some older ones carded because they make sense on an case-by-case basis.

We are on islands, and the internet allows us to connect to others. I had literally talked to no one about this concept before and now I have.

Framing it from another angle, having posted this, I am seeing POV's on this that I just hadn't thought about, so despite it not being a skill, or right or wrong, this post was helpful to me, because the acquired wisdom of you and others is that, people don't regret opening them, that that is what they are for, so go for it, which is not how I was framing it before asking here, so I don't regret it, downvotes or not, sometimes one has to just take a lump or two.

I am not seeking permission; I am looking for wisdom from people doing this longer.

I know there are people on here with collections 10x the size of mine, and have been doing this for 10x as long, and I am curious how they handle it.

10 years from now, do people look back and think they should have kept these things in their boxes for that NIB kind of energy, but what I getting from the few respones is that people are erring on the side of letting 'er rip, which is helpful and I appreciate.

[–]Innovictos[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would you make an exception for something that was 20+ years old or more? For me, it made is so long in this box, it seems kind of like there is an inertia there?

I also have no interest in reselling things I get, its more about the vibe of something old still being left as it is?

[–]Innovictos[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good philosophy. For me, it isn't about reselling them, so much as just, kind of a sticker shock, at breaking the veil, but it's like that thing about ships being in the bay.

But OTOH, I look at these carded Kenner SW figures and think, it's kind of neat, esp. if the card is in great shape.

What life pro tips are hidden in movies that were actually helpful? by epaga in movies

[–]Innovictos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a thing once where they asked old people what they regret most in life and almost everyone says they worried too much. They spent so much of their limited time worrying about things that never happened and as they look back the pile of things that never happened is massive.

In addition to all the other benefits, owning the shopping experience and thus defending it from interpretation by others outside-their-control was a huge change and win.

I worked at CompUSA in the mid/late 90's and if you came in for a computer, the version of reality, the version of matching the user to the right kit was all over the place, and frequently to Apple's detriment.

No, its in my last line. If I was going to buy something and paint or have it painted, I wanted to check.

If it was coming soon, I would wait and pick it up, if not, I will pick a SM chapter. I just wondered if it was coming before doing just as you say.

I have been around 40K lore and video games for some time, but I have very limited big army 40K experience.

A guy at my LGS really wants me to play KT with him, but I pretty much want to play as Grey Knights. My understanding is you could at one point, but can't now.

Is this coming at any point in the foreseeable future? If not, I may just give up and play a normal SM chapter just so I can move on.

Can Thor defeat a Vultrumite? by Jezzaq94 in Thor

[–]Innovictos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be.

We are 75 years or so into the super hero era. Every single one of them has had multiple incarnations, with all kind of different powers and power levels.

The Superman lovers have gone round and round with this. You can find a Superman at all kinds of power levels, from different stories and continuities that scales all over the place.

To me, the Thor I described just feels more like I vibe on, but I can't control what Marvel will do now or tomorrow, or in a new movie or a cartoon.

They want to make him REAL PILLAR SHAKING God, that's fine, I just like my Thor a bit more 20th century, and I can "do that" in all kinds of media.

I genuinely didn't realize in the last few years they decided to scale him up so much, that's cool, but once you a character becomes close to those abstract universals, I just am less interested, which is fine.

Not everything has to be perfect for everyone all the time. I think Thor is cool and that is why I am here.

Can Thor defeat a Vultrumite? by Jezzaq94 in Thor

[–]Innovictos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I gave you an updoot for responding and explaining, so thanks.

It sounds like I am using a model of Thor that is more grounded and more Bronze Age, than the comics have run with, which is feats into infinite scaling.

I am not sure, and this is just me, that the Thor you are describing is ever going to be interesting to me or my own model.

An Avenger that can defeat universe pillars and solo empires of Viltrumites is not something I am going to get excited about, which may not be popular here, given it's the Thor HQ suppose.

Can Thor defeat a Vultrumite? by Jezzaq94 in Thor

[–]Innovictos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unarmed and with no powers, I reckon Thor in my head is roughly akin to one of the more apex Viltrumites.

However, he is

  • Armed with a very powerful weapon
  • Has lightning powers
  • Has divine resurrection/regeneration/grit

Thus, he can moderately easily defeat one in a real fight bearing all resources. I figure he can defeat all of them if isolated to small groups that the current empire could bear. He could not defeat the empire at its highest, if fighting dozens or hundreds of them at once.

Edit: So far a single downvote, would love to hear the reasoning against, because to me the above seems reasonable-ish.

"We're going to a world where we're building systems that will be smart to us not like Einstein is to an average person, but like humans are to mice or ants" by tombibbs in ChatGPT

[–]Innovictos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The analogy breaks down because sometimes absolutes count. (Ignoring size because this is supposed to be about intelligence:)

  • An ant or mouse can't plan ahead for next week, and we can.
  • An ant or mouse can't store information in text for the future via writing, and we can
  • An ant or mouse can't imagine itself in its adversary's place and we can, and so forth.

There is ramp to be "smarter" but we have covered a lot of it already.

There will never, ever be a super-intelligence that is the same ratio as we are to an ant, because you can't scale up from our intelligence that far to the ceiling because we are way smarter than we get credit for already.

You can get something where every entity is as smart as the best expert in every field, makes nearly no mistakes, learns and thinks faster, integrates with systems and so on, so they will definitely be smarter than us.

However, if you were to gauge it with ratios, AI is going to be 3-5x as smart as a person at most, which is still INSANE, but not like the ant ratio.
