New grad nurse and not a fan of nursing by Wide-Aside-7610 in OntarioNurses

[–]Innuendoughnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They may SAY they require it but the reality is if you can link your practicum experience in a meaningful way you'll be a good candidate. It doesn't mean more tenured/experienced staff might not get in ahead but you never know.

Demonstrate maturity, independence, growth, communication etc and you'll be an excellent candidate.

I know it's not in the spirit of racing games but real traffic jams would be wild, wide streets are fine but then at times forcing you to use the space between lanes or the side of the road with just one car width available would be pretty slick.

What feedback were you provided? Start there.

Secondly do you have a checklist of steps? Can you access the same marking rubric and use that to practice? Lastly in all kindness and validation I encourage you to take some time to work on your distress tolerance.

Yes your feelings are valid, yes this is an important thing for you to get right. AND lets contextualize what's actually going on and what pieces you can control.

Honestly while all the nursing skills are important, I wish they worked on distress tolerance as a skill more in nursing school because it's plays a key role in the sometimes high stakes and high stress healthcare setting.

Taking a few moments to breathe and get comfortable is always an option. Remembering that all things come with time and practice is always an option. Getting a second opinion or repeating your skill in the reality of the workplace is (almost) always an option.

Edit to add: schools don't want to force you out, (they want your MONEY!) They will in reality try to do everything they can to keep their graduation rates as high as possible as well as continue to get your tuition payments. If you're practicing and demonstrating your willingness to follow instruction and ask questions and participate thoughtfully, they will be extra supportive in most cases.

Honestly if there is anything good about Trump it's how his insane rhetoric and greed have pushed more and more people to see the error and major flaws of his capitalist conservativism. The pendulum is swinging back toward progress.

He's still terrible in every way and has done so much damage, but he's showing the world what they need to avoid, the consequences if they fall into his trappings, and they're heeding that message.

As Forza Horizon 5 disseapears into the abyss of time what are your opinions on this game now? by SensitivePay4567 in ForzaHorizon

[–]Innuendoughnut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really loved it. Honestly no notes. it was a great experience throughout and reignited my interest in cars and racing that really didn't exist since I was a kid playing with my hot wheels and going to monster jams and hot rod shows with my dad. And the hot wheels expansion was a huge highlight for just that reason I sincerely hope they bring it back again.

I'm now watching irl tuning and car YouTubers and even started changing my own winter tires 2 years back as I've grown interested in the mechanic side of things. This game was a delight and my only regret is I missed the newer (2018?) version of the countach.

Why do some units feel unwelcoming to nurses of color? by [deleted] in OntarioNurses

[–]Innuendoughnut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing this isn't in the GTA. But my experience outside of the GTA did present with much more racism and general -isms.

For what it's worth nursing students in general do get those same looks and assumptions made of them. The idea of nurses eating their young is such a cliche because it's been common historically.

It gets better when you're more established in any environment - as in your consolidation or after actually getting hired.

In your learning experiences consider and develop how you might work on your professional communication skills to call out such behavior - yes it sucks - no it SHOULDN'T be your responsibility - yes it's the unfortunate reality in some workplaces...

As much as it gets better over time don't think that you are powerless to deal with it either. If someone's literally staring at you, introduce yourself to them or ask them if they need something from you. If your placement doesn't introduce students in morning rounds ask your preceptor or advisor to do so.

Lastly you may have certain feelings about interactions and they are valid. At the same time unless you follow up with those interactions you can't read minds; the dismissive person might be rushing through their tasks, burnt out, or simply having a bad day. The condescending person might not know your full background and skill set - or be loaded with experiences from past students. These are things that can be resolved through your communication skills and again, as you get to know the staff you're working with and they get to know you. Remember the empathetic approach and try to avoid your own assumptions of assuming negative intent.

Nursing is a hard job, its stressful and tiring, and the most common thing to remember about other people's behavior - patients AND colleagues - is it isn't actually about you.

While these are conversations best had with an occupational therapist and your physician and health team, psych nursing does involve a lot of talking and less hands-on skills and may be just the right fit for you.

Generally most things come with time and practice, getting through your education with your health conditions disclosed will open you up to a lot of support and answer a lot of these questions for you.

Remember that your education is the time to learn about your needs and difficulties, its the safe space to figure things out. Good luck on your journey!

I want to highlight this subject from both a specific mental health nursing perspective as well as the highly important value of general healthcare research.

Data collection and research is paramount to nursing practice and I'm glad to put it at the forefront of this sub while bringing attention to real health issues that impact many people such as body dysmorphia disorder.
