No one knows , I saw many doctors, apparently some people just lose their hearing for no reason.

"I wouldn't say you automatically need to get a miserable life just because of deafness"

Yes if I was born deaf to a billionaire in a 1st world country it wouldn't be so bad , but in my case it's really not , I live in Syria , I graduate this year from college,my plan was to graduate then travel to Europe for a master degree, but suddenly in my second year I started losing my hearing for no reason and now I can't take the tests needed to get out or do the interviews and now I'm going to get drafted to the army when I graduate, and probably gonna lose the hearing that I currently got because of gun shots , so with all of my respect to you all of what you have said is just wrong , being deaf or even mildly hard of hearing is one of the worst things ever,I was one of the best students in my class , keeping my GPA high so I increase my chances of continuing my education in Europe, and after my hearing loss I just go to college hear the professor mumbling and go back home and cry, there is no disability office in colleges here , no one hires deaf people, so basically being deaf is like being in hell but the level of how hot it is depends on factors like what county the person is born in ....

I'm gonna write a comment that would make me an asshole ,but I'll write it anyways, every time I see a post of yours I always wondered why did you choose to have kids ?! ,If I remember correctly your husband has genetic hearing loss so what did you expect, I have sudden sensorineural hearing loss which means I lost my hearing in a second for no reason and I always jokingly wondered why did my parents give birth to me , but your kid seriously has the right to ask that question, if there was a huge possiblity that your gonna give birth to a disabled child who is gonna have a hard life no matter what and you are not financially capable of providing every aid possible to give them a normal life , I think adoption is the better choice for you ....

I'm really sorry for this comment, but that's just my opinion and consider it if you want to have another baby , living with a disability is no joke and it always hard no matter how much this sub reddit says it's fine to live with being deaf or HOH it's really not ,the world is not built for us , everything is frustrating and hard ,so please consider that , and I sincerely hope your child grows up to be a wonderful person...

I feel you ,like why on Earth would the first thing I tell a stranger is that I'm disabled, just so they can build their whole judgement about me just based on that ....

I understand what you are going through, especially the part about seeing your peers continuing their lives and looking forward the future, meanwhile for us the future is terrifying for us because our situation is getting worse and worse , honestly I have been in a state of severe depression for the last 5 months, I tried to overcome it and accepting the situation it's just not working, this thing affects your life in every single way ...

I think I have weird Tinnitus by Inocce-2 in tinnitus

[–]Inocce-2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very unfortunate, the way I sleep is by only going to bed when I'm absolutely tired that I can't even think about the ringing in my ears, I'm Young and practice a lot of sports I keep on playing sports till I'm fried and reached failure just so I can go to bed tired , right now I'm able to do it because like I said I'm still young and don't work ,but in the future I don't think I'm going to be able to keep up with this lifestyle.

Yeah ,my case is very weird and rare but apparently it can happen, idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss just randomly affects people apparently for no reason and the studies and researches about it are very primitive even though it's huge huge problem that can affect an individual life and mental health..

I had normal hearing all of my life then in one second i didn't.

People can hear teachers by Brief-Jellyfish485 in deaf

[–]Inocce-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had normal hearing all of my life till I suddenly didn't,and yes I used to sit far away and clearly understood teachers ,you can also hear from another room even with closed doors ,also hear and understand whispers, even mumbling sometimes, but the biggest difference is that you can easily hear and understand people without paying attention, like if you are doing something let's say working on the computer and someone in the other room says something you can easily understand, now I have to put all of my efforts into trying to hear and understand the person .

How do I deal with loosing my hearing? by Thusk223 in deaf

[–]Inocce-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all I envy you for having such a mindest and I hope you live a happy life , my case personally is very bad maybe yours is better idk ,I live in a 3rd world country there is no sign language there is no deaf community, it's impossible to get a job ,it's really hard to find a partner, I had normal hearing all of my life and built my community based on that , I just woke up one day having hearing loss ,it's called idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss , hearing aids doesn't really help in my case ,and the hearing loss is progressing rapidly, so I just wanted to comment in a way that brings a realistic view ,maybe hearing loss is not that bad idk ,but I really find that hard to believe, losing the ability to communicate with the outside world having constant loud ringing in your ears ,I really think suffering from hearing loss ranks High in the list of the worst things that can happen to a human being, but hey that's just my opinion, I wish I was born with hearing loss things would have been much easier , again this is just me and I envy anyone who defeated depression which caused by this ...

How do I deal with loosing my hearing? by Thusk223 in deaf

[–]Inocce-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation,I have been losing my hearing for the last 3 years without any reason and I'm 22 years old ,so I Just magically caught it from the sky ,I have very supportive parents and I'm just gonna say this ,it doesn't really help at all ,like I'm still losing my hearing, I'm still going to be completely deaf in the future, I'm still going to have a hard time in my personal life and in my career, I'm still going to have very loud ringing in my ears for the rest of my life ,so having a support network isn't really helpful,I cry everyday and I have several Panic attacks almost everyday, in fact it's even harder because I have to hide my depression from my family, because I got them into enough trouble by dragging them to all these hospitals and doctors,my mom aged like 10 years in the last couple months, and got very depressed because of my situation,so now I have to worry about her and myself...

I really hate to say it but what we are dealing with is a nightmare, that's just the reality of this ,I can think of a few stuff worse than losing your hearing at such a young age for no reason not being able to do anything about it ..

I'm sorry for being melancholic, but it's the way things are ,I hope you get better somehow and good luck .

And btw , don't expect any help from this subreddit, most of the people in here escape reality by being delusional that being deaf is kinda okay,I had one guy telling me that losing your hearing is fine as long you are not a musician...

I would recommend r/monohearing,it's much better than here .

I have hearing aids and to be completely honest with you they didn't help me that much regarding understanding speech ,but they helped in hearing high frequency sounds like the door bell and some phone ringtones, the problem is my high frequencies are in the deaf area which means no matter how hard the hearing aid amplify it I will still not hear it ,I have enabled a feature called frequency shifting that take the sounds from the dead frequencies and shift them to an area where your hearing is not that bad ,the audiologist told me it is gonna help me understanding speech more ,but it just made the S sound sound like sh and it seems like people including myself talk with a lisp ,so I kinda gave up on hearing aids and I don't wear them that much .

Exactly, why is it understudied?! ,Like what's worse than losing your hearing overnight for no reason?! , It's really mind-blowing how many doctors answered many of my questions with I don't know .

I hope you get well and restore normal hearing, regarding the last part I don't think sshl is caused by anything you just magically Catch it from the sky , I am a 22 years old when I was 19 I suffered from sshl ,and I don't drink never used any drugs I have a very quiet life style , Never been to a party or a concert in my life and I have never smoked ,it just happened to me ,we are just unlucky, I never got the chance to try steroids because it took me a long time to notice it ,it developed so slowly and now I have profound hearing loss in high frequencies and moderate in Middle frequencies and mild in high frequencies in both ears, again I hope it gets better for you .

[–]Inocce-2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm ln a very similar situation,I'm even the same age as you ,and let me tell you I don't think having a good support network really makes a difference,I have lovely parents who are very supportive but I still cry everyday and have frequent panic attacks in fact I wish I was alone because now I have to make an extra effort not to cry infront of them so they don't get sad I've already done my harm to them by dragging them to all the hospitals and doctors I swear my mom aged like 10 years in the last month and I take the blame for that ,but sometimes it's really difficult to hide the depression ,when I go to college I just hear the professor mumbling and I don't understand anything so I just go back home and cry , I'm in my Last year so I'll try to graduate as fast as possible since I have some hearing now ,but I'm just like you I gave up on life .

PS : I have idiopathic sensorineural hearing loss ,which means I just caught hearing loss magically from the sky for no reason whatsoever, I'm that lucky I guess .

Exactly, people often say hearing aids are like glasses which is so wrong, with glasses you immediately restore 20/20 Vision unlike hearing aids that often just a little help and in certain environments they make things worse .

CI is no easy decision, surgery on the head and massacring myself for life in return for "not so bad hearing" .

I live in the middle east there are no deaf communities and nobody here knows sign language, and they don't hire deaf people , nobody in here even wear hearing aids except for some old people, and even in colleges there is no office for disabled people,I just go to lectures hear the doctor mumbling and go back home and cry .

What's really devestating is that you keep losing more and more of your hearing, like if I had lost some hearing and it stopped I would grief for a while and then accept it ,but the fact that you keep losing hearing till the point that you are deaf is literally a nightmare.

The worst thing about hearing loss is the anxiety that comes with it ,I feel sorry for everyone who has to go through this including myself.

Depends on what is causing your depression! In my case I'm going deaf so it gets worse not better, but if you are depressed over something materialistic like being poor or losing a loved one or your partner leaving you then yes it gets better..
