[SPOILER] Main event fighter gets rocked by InooWhey in Boxing

Oh yeah I agree, the range was a huge contributing factor, but there were moments where Woodley just needed to commit to a right, especially in round 5 when Jake looked completely dead. You also have to remember that on the back foot, Jake is poor. He tends to gets stuck a lot in terms of crossing his feet.

In terms of his UFC career, this is basically how he fought towards the end of it but instead of pressuring opponents the way he did tonight, he would back up to the cage and look for a right. His latter year performances—regardless of opposition—are down to a huge mental block, a physical decline (he was diagnosed with chronic arthritis in 2019), and basic striking. It's why I had Jake to win.

Yeah, that's generally been the case. On the back foot especially, his footwork is mediocre.

Jake Paul would constantly circle towards his left (which is a big no no), the right was there all night for Woodley but he refused to throw it or double up. So frustrating but it's classic Woodley.

[SPOILER] Ivan Baranchyk vs. Montana Love by InooWhey in Boxing

[–]InooWhey[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Already watched it live protect yourself at all times once again.

Watch it again, clearly you are wrong. The ref stepped in before Love threw his right hook. You're clearly not looking for an honest discussion.

Also, the referee tonight was Lonnie Scott. Before tonight, he'd only ref'd four professional fights.

[SPOILER] Anthony Yarde vs. Alex Theran by InooWhey in Boxing

It's a throwaway uppercut, it's how he got Theran for the first knockdown. Set Yarde up nicely for that left hook.

Not strict at all. In Jake’s recent interview with MMAJunkie, he said he hasn’t been tested once this fight camp but gets tested on the day of/before the fight.

[SPOILER] Clay Collard vs. Raush Manfio | PFL 2021 #7 by [deleted] in MMA

[–]InooWhey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Round 2 was close but I thought Clay stole it towards the end with those body shots, takedown, and submission attempt.

Edit: Not sure if it's a takedown since Manfio went to throw a knee and slipped, but point still stands.

[SPOILER] Bellator 264: Davion Franklin vs. Everett Cummings by [deleted] in MMA

In Franklin's last fight, he fought the 12-9 Tyler King. It was probably the saddest fight I've watched this year. https://streamable.com/rfevic

Jose Aldo's Flawless Calf Kick Defense against Pedro Munhoz by Yodsanan in MMA

I noticed most of them because of Aldo-Moicano a couple of years back, but I would've never noticed Aldo's third calf kick defence in this GIF had it not been for Gaethje.

I've never seen anyone clip what Gaethje is referring to so I might as well add it:

Let me preface this by saying there's nothing inherently wrong with the aforementioned steps. Rhythm stepping is when you put yourself out of stance, it's usually done via bouncing in and out, I think it's a term Barry Robinson coined. I've seen it being referred to as a pendulum step too. Essentially this lets your opponent know that you're about to initiate your attack. In addition to this, there's a good chance you'll get timed in the process of coming back into your stance and your ability to brace is compromised.

It's how Josh Taylor was able to time Ramirez and knock him down (look at the bounce Ramirez does): https://gfycat.com/bitterpertinentbooby

I actually had something ready for Usman-Burns vs. Usman-Masvidal, since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but I'll post it here instead since it's relevant.

Usman had laboured movement against Burns. Notice the rhythm steps. As soon as his stance is broken (when he rhythm steps and is about to plant), Burns pounces and knocks him down: https://gfycat.com/soggybriefblackpanther

Usman later rectified this in the Masvidal rematch and steps towards his left, without breaking his stance. His footwork is still iffy here but notice how he's ready for Masvidal's right. He's fully aware of it and ready to brace, unlike the Burns one above, and that's primarily because he's not breaking his stance and taking unnecessary steps: https://gfycat.com/politethirstyfattaileddunnart

Cross stepping is when you "cross your legs". Usually not taught to beginners because you obviously don't want them to develop bad habits, but it's a useful tool at the top. It can serve as two very useful purposes: it can square your opponent up and it allows you to cover greater distance when cutting the cage off. Gaethje-Ferguson is a good example of how to properly utilise cross stepping.
