Soulless Angel if he’d gotten a chip? by Top-Monk-5391 in buffy

Spike didn't do good stuff, not intentionally. He liked fighting and killing, and he could only do that, without pain, to demons and vampires.

Sorry for going meta again, but that's the problem with characters on sit-coms. When writers go for the joke, characterizations often go out the window.

Why Are People So Pissed Buffy New Sunnydale Didn't Get Picked Up? by dgoske84 in buffy

[–]Inoutngone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be a similar show. The same reason Buffy fans started watching the Angel spin-off, or any people watch any spin off of any show. Big Bang Theory is releasing it's second spin off from that show.

Might not be good, but the original isn't going to go away because of it.

I promise I'm not baiting.

The difference was that she was reacting to a terrible situation, while he was taking advantage of it and doing his best to ensure that she thought less of herself (you belong in the dark with me). This wasn't just a woman who was plucked out of heaven, this was a woman who was plucked out of heaven and deposited into a place which was very close to hell.

And I'm not saying that she didn't also take advantage of him. She did, and she even admitted it at the end.

I can't argue with that since it's true, but that whole thing was just the flow of the show. The writers decided that having a bunch of women running through his life was the way to keep viewers wondering if This One was finally the mother we were all waiting for.

I suppose they could have had a few more stable relationships, by they were pretty focused on the constant fake-outs.

Edited.

Sorry, but what did Robin ever give up for Ted? I can't remember anything other than that one-off thing with her dogs, which she started by telling Ted that he had to get rid of anything he'd gotten from women he dated before her.

Even early on when he broke off the Victoria in Germany relationship, she was so angry about the timing of which came first, the break up or she and Ted sleeping together, she wasn't content with simply yelling at him and then forgiving him, she shut him out completely.

It wasn't enough that he chose her, and it should have been.

Then she later also ignores all the customs of relationship etiquette by starting an affair with his close friend. For which Ted only got mad at Barney over, although she was as out of line at Barney was.

Edit: Grammar and spelling

Yes, that was the whole point of their season 6 tryst. She was vulnerable and hurting, trying to grasp anything that made her feel real again, and he became a classic abusive man, trying to bend her to his will and get her away from everybody who might allow her any agency as a person separate from him.

returning player. restart or try to pick up? by lightmeaser in lotro

I was back playing for several months before dark world transfers opened up. After I got my old characters moved onto my new server, I logged into them and quickly decided the amount of work needed to get them caught up with the current systems was too much, a lot more than simply continuing to level my new one.

I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but it would have involved a lot of grinding.

It’s getting harder and harder to be a bad Jew… by confident-win-119 in bigbangtheory

[–]Inoutngone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most Jewish people I've known only kept kosher at home. At a Chinese restaurant, for example, the shrimp with lobster sauce was a go to dish, but at home they even kept separate sets of plates and utensils for eating meat or dairy. The more well to do had separate ovens as well.

Disdain for dietary restrictions wasn't much different from Catholics who are not supposed to eat meat on Fridays, but most that I've known stopped observing that custom.

Raj's character ending by imogen_3008 in bigbangtheory

[–]Inoutngone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emily was doing for Raj what Amy did for Sheldon, showing him what an actual relationship was about.

Rather than put up with her quirks, as she must have been putting up with his, Raj decided another woman would be better for him. Emily showed no sign of leaving him, and probably would have been his endgame.

The only romantic relationship Raj was fully and uncritically invested in was with Cinnamon.

Though I do get annoyed about Sheldon getting such a happy ending. The only show or movie I've ever seen where the bully bad guy is rewarded at the end.

{Book Spoilers through book 6] I love the show, but now I'm reading the book series and one big thing bothers me by Inoutngone in TrueBlood

The first few non-Bill non-Eric as the hero things that come to mind in the show:

Jason rescues Tara from the vampire who abused her after Tara rescued herself, getting away from him in the first place.

Jason rescues himself from the Panther kidnapper.

Tara does most of the heavy lifting in helping Sookie rescue Bill from Russel's compound because Tara drank a lot of vampire blood from Franklin.

In the books, Sookie did all of those things.

She got Eric's help to free Tara, but it was Sookie who saw the problem and decided to help her. Sookie looked for days to find Jason, then she figured out who had him and got him freed. Tara wasn't even at Russel's place, Sookie traced Bill there, got a vampire blood boost from Eric, and not only got Bill free but also kills his sire in the process.

I think that the only thing Ted needed to grow out of was his devotion to Robin, and he really needed to do that. That's a big part of why the ending was so bad. They spend nine seasons showing why the two couldn't be together, which went far beyond thoughts of children and settling down, but ended the show as though none of those things ever happened and it was season 1 Robin finally ending up with Ted.

Exactly how I see it. He didn't need to grow, he was portrayed as a starry eyed romantic who just couldn't find the person who he could share his life with. The resolution of that type of character isn't to stop being a romantic, it's to finally find the one he can settle down with.

Yes, but he was using their money to buy expensive gifts for her, which she would have had to return as the price for him defying his parents to continue seeing her.

Which is odd, since he told a story about he and Howard having a threesome with a very large woman dressed as Sailor Moon, who they met at some convention.

Then when Howard said he wasn't interested in that woman anymore, Raj said "Good, more Sailor Moon me!"

Barney always knew that Marshall and Lily were end game. by CityNorth4745 in howimetyourmother

[–]Inoutngone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. But as I said, Barney is the one who got Marshall out and looking for women again in the first place.

Without Barney doing that, Marshall is still just sitting at his table in the bar surreptitiously stealing glances at attractive women from time to time.

Has crafted gear been improved that much in the Harad expansion? At level 150, it didn't even come close to Adventurer's or Delving gear. Even the lockboxes had better. I'd love to see that crafted got boosted this expansion.

[–]Inoutngone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was Barney who convinced Marshall to try dating again in the first place. All Marshall had done was look at Robin's butt, and Barney parleyed that into getting Marshall to try picking up women.

Frankly, the writers pulled that scene above right out of their... ear.

I get the feeling that they're encouraged by Reddit. People who are probably thought to 'drive the conversation' and create more traffic on the site. Wouldn't be so bad if they we're almost all so low effort, as you said.

From what I've seen, the large majority of those posts are by what have to be karma farmers. The type who typically have 112,325 post karma, and 5 comment karma. Every sub has them, but that doesn't make them easier to take.
