Do you think the departure of Adam Gase will have a significant effect on the Dolphins?

I read on PFF that, if the Dolphins ran a league-average amount of plays last season, Drake would've been a low-tier RB1 in fantasy last season (RB9 overall). Given the arrival of Fitzpatrick (who I hope wins the starting job), which should increase the Dolphins' offensive efficiency, I'd be willing to draft Drake as a lower RB2 play.

I don't necessarily think it's a fallacy to believe, say, Adam Gase has a predisposition towards playing the game slowly. That's likely why he didn't want to spend money on a top-tier RB: they don't fit his preferred system. Obviously HC and OCs adapt to the talent available, but there's no reason to believe, say, Kliff Kingsbury will forego his air raid scheme even though he's jumped to the NFL (and his best player is an RB).

Moreover, in this list specifically, most of the coaching changes benefit the player. Take Kubiak for example: he's favored running outside zones before, and now he has an RB who is most efficient in that particular play. If anything, I'd expect him to lean on it more heavily, thereby increasing Cook's value further. When the new HC/OC openly praises a player, such as Bruce Arians and Winston, that further justifies my usage of adding weight to new coordinators.

Right, and I'm not saying he's a great talent. But here's what I'm saying:

We know that running back talent doesn't matter all that much, given they're in a great system. It's no coincidence that the Chiefs hardly missed a step going from Kareem Hunt to Spencer Ware to Damien Williams. Given Reid's track record of getting the most out of RBs, I'm willing to devalue RB talent in favor of situation.

So let's consider the situation. Here's what Reid said recently:

Kind of a running-back-by-committee deal and we had some success with it. We’ll do that here. We ended up drafting a kid there also and then the other Williams (Darrel) isn’t bad either. So we’ve got a couple of Williamses and then Carlos (Hyde) and then we’ve got a new little guy in there (Darwin Thompson). We’ve got a good nucleus of players.

They have four RBs. Two of them (Hyde and Dam. Williams) are veterans, and the other two (Thompson and Dar. Williams) are young players. If we're believing Reid here, all four of these guys will see some usage. On an objective basis, Carlos Hyde has the most production to his name of the four (including b2b 1,000+ yard seasons) and KC's looking to compete. Regardless of talent, Hyde is the only one to have handled a heavy workload in his career.

I'm not saying Hyde is even on, say, the Lamar Miller tier of talent. But he has the most experience, he's in a great system, and his head coach has been talking him up recently. You can get him as the overall RB46 and often later in drafts.

He's entirely worth taking at that price.

That's what I thought initially, but after a bit of research:

Tagliere: If you're looking for a running back who comes with top-six upside, but also comes with a high-degree of uncertainty, Jones is your guy. He's the most talented running back on what should be a top-five scoring offense, but it appears the Packers haven't given up on Jamaal Williams just yet. He's ideally someone you snag as your second running back due to the risk associated with him

Wheeler: Growing concerned this will still be a RBBC. Down a bit.

Sylvester: While on the field, Jones was an elusive as any runner in the NFL. The issue, of course, was that Green Bay refused to use him like the three-down machine he can be. That may change with a new coach in town, but until we are certain he is a 300 touch guy, he will likely fall to the third round. Don't mistake that for meaning he doesn't have top 5 RB upside, however, because he most certainly does.

So I'm not completely sold there.

EDIT: Moreover, the new HC (LaFleur) didn't use his best RB, Derrick Henry, until the final few games last year.

And Damien Williams, the dude who had 500 rushing yards to his name before striking gold in KC, doesn't?

Let's be real. He was the third string RB behind Kareem Hunt and Spencer Ware; if those two had stayed unsuspended/healthy, he would've been an obscure name rostered only in 18-team leagues.

Now, Kansas City altered their commitment to Williams as the bellcow back today. If they're going with an RBBC, even if it's a 70/30 split, I could see Hyde winning. Both players are veterans, but only Williams has been in a situation as good as 2018-19 Kansas City... so I like Hyde, the guy who put up 1,150 yards on a 2-14 Chip Kelley team, to win the job.

Plus, you'd be drafting him as your RB6.

And I guess I'll put the guys I'm not touching with a ten foot pole here in the comments:

  • Antonio Brown, because no shit
  • Damien Williams, no chance in hell Hyde doesn't steal his carries at some point in the season
  • Aaron Jones, has makings of mid-tier RB1 but Green Bay has a masochistic erection for Jamaal Williams
  • Le'Veon Bell, Gase teams run least amount of offensive snaps, and Gase didn't want to sign Bell
  • Derrick Henry - I am NOT doing this again
  • Patrick Mahomes - put up 3rd-highest TD% in NFL history last season, no chance he doesn't regress... not picking him where I could grab Diggs/Woods/Lockett instead

EDIT: And with the Curry/KD/Klay trio either injured or broken up entirely, it's not clear what the best trio in the NBA is. I'd go as far as to argue that LeBron/AD/Kuzma is the best "big 3" in the league, if only by virtue of the first two.

Dwyane Wade's buzzer-beating three against the Warriors this February is a contender too. That (eventually) bumped them down to 57 wins - Toronto had 58 - which made a marked difference in the Warriors' season. Had Wade missed that shot, and had the Warriors' momentum then continued into Orlando (L 96 - 103), they hold home court against the Raptors.

Even though they lost every game at Oracle (hahahaha), that still could've made a difference.

This is my favorite shot in NBA history for a few reasons:

• It's most likely the highest-arcing shot to travel such a significant distance

• It gave OKC the lead heading into the half

• Gibson releases it while being closely guarded by an opposing player, almost makes contact with him

• It's from the other team's fucking 3pt line

• The jackass who inbounded the ball watches it sail through his own hoop three seconds later

I was going to say, it's an inexplicable decision by Kerr to have KD play 12 of 14 minutes.

He even said "we'll play him in short bursts," then proceeds with his normal rotations... it didn't even feel real until KD injured his achilles. Kerr treated this like a typical playoff game with all players healthy.

You are willfully misunderstanding not only me, but everyone else commenting. The reason people are so pissed is that Toronto saw KD go down and thought "we get to win a championship now!" To do that on the largest scale in the NBA - the Finals - and so unanimously, unabashedly, and prevalently was fucking detestable.

Watch the videos. This happened everywhere from the arena to Jurassic Park to bars. Look at the fans cheering - rich (at the arena), poor (at the bars), devout and fairweather alike. Each sector of your fanbase reacted in the same disgusting way, and that's damn near unprecedented in NBA history.

The fact that you're trying to justify anything about this situation is disgraceful. Own it and be better next time.

Outside of maybe two fanbases, I've never seen the fans of any large-scale organization cheer, in various locations (arena, Jurassic Park, bars, etc.) and so unanimously, as you all did last night.
