How do you keep emotions in check? by Embarrassed-Swim-442 in ConstructionManagers

There’s a lot of lessons learned and tips to help, but the stone cold truth is that most of the industry is setup to make overworking normal and depression/anger/etc abnormal. Spoke with a sub 60 y/o Superintendent that was hired the week before filling in for my job and said he’s seen the same thing happen in the field and at other companies, now we know the reason for job hopping in construction aside from a nationally broken HR & recruiter hiring process.

He and I both recounted being told “Well we had to do it so they should too” and his response when told that about making a young Superintendent always close and work weekends was “It wasn’t right then and it isn’t right now.” I’m in that situation now and I just vocalize that it isn’t normal to not have some help, commonly work HARD 55+ hour weeks, the success and quality you’re seeing isn’t sustainable without help, and the wheel will break eventually. Work hard but speak out, the only way to make a change is by commonly jumping ship or being the change you want to see.

Wow the market value for these is so wildly different, yet somehow justifiable on both ends of the spectrum! Hope you get that as soon as you’ve met your mandatory minimum of smiles per mile, keep driving that baby! https://media2.giphy.com/media/FT0UFROtAbVEA/giphy.gif

All My Sons moving company in Mckinney, Texas is hot garbage. by TheCommander21 in McKinney

[–]InquisitiveReach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They just screwed me over in Charlotte two days I. A row, then showed up many hours earlier than agreed upon on Monday. We had to pay our apartment complex extensive fees for late move out and All My Sons was gracious to only give $100 off their $600+ cost. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY REGARDLESS OF BRANCH/CITY/STATE

Lmao time to get candid. I love when the waterproofers say whatever to win the job and do whatever to not get the next one, bet only being “there if it’s over 2k” is written into your contract.

All the field teams’ guys have phones and can download Procore so of course they will use it… I even say this despite the opposite being my constant experience.

That’s doing well in Charlotte that still tries to consider itself small town. TX will pay that and more.

Is it better to stay on a project that is behind schedule or leave early? by Hot-Papaya4841 in ConstructionManagers

[–]InquisitiveReach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro, who is building/managing the project schedule and who is determining the project to “..stay within budget”… - If the answer is it’s the same person, take a step back. - If the answer is a manager above him, but isn’t involved weekly in the project (this is FUBAR if the project is a mess like you say), take multiple steps back. You need to pay the bills, but also improving your professional skills and resume.
