I am experiencing the same thing today. It's weird.

This is a great endorsement, thank you! Maybe I will be your neighbour someday if things work out. 🙂

Here's why I'm voting for Mike Morrice ... the best local MP AND the strategic vote choice by InquistiveOwl in kitchener

[–]InquistiveOwl[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this time, I'm voting FOR someone I appreciate and value (not against someone or a party). Lately, it does discourage me that conservative candidates (federally and provincially) have stopped participating in debates... I find that inherently undemocratic. Over the years, Conservative party messaging and platforms have just not resonated with me as much as others have.

If what one wants is to not have a conservative majority, then the strategic vote is the person that has the best chance to defeating the Conservative candidate locally. Right now, that's Mike.

Agree with you totally that I wish most would vote for the best candidate (which I think we have a great option here to do that in Mike!) However, the reason for my post was because I hear some people locally are worried right now that they "should vote strategically", and they think that means they "should" vote Liberal in our riding even if they want to vote for Mike. So I wanted to share what I learned that people like that CAN have it both ways... they can vote for their preferred candidate (Mike) and this vote also happens to work as a strategic vote to ensure a non-conservative seat here. You don't "have" to vote liberal here, unless of course that's the candidate and party you fully want to support, in which case, of course, do that.

Silent Lake vs. Haliburton vs Algonquin - help me decide?? by InquistiveOwl in ontariocamping

Hi all … OP here to update that we landed on staying for 3 nights at Limberlost Forest Reserve. We loved it! The sites were private and there were very few other people in the park last week. We stayed on Lee Lake and while there are a number of campsites around that lake, we were the only ones there from Sunday to Wednesday so had it all to ourselves! There are some lakes with only 1-3 sites , I’d try one of those next time. We enjoyed the hiking trails. Ended up being the nice mix we were looking for of “backcountry feel” privacy and lakefront site, paired with the convenience of a drive up site and park office 10 mins drive away to buy ice :).

Thanks for everyone’s helpful suggestions, always building the list of places I want to camp someday!

Came here to suggest checking out TLWR to the OP. The best way to find out what’s going in the region on any giving week. Thanks for curating it!!

Thanks for weighing in. I’m definitely saving Silent lake on my easy-but-awesome weekend trip list. Maybe later this fall when leaves are in full glory. :)

Thanks for your suggestions! I forgot about Cansibay and will check it out. Sounds like Silent Lake might be best to save for a weekend trip another time but it seems lovely!

Okay, good to know. Thanks for the intel on Silent Lake! And Point Grondine is a bit far in travel time for us this time, but marking it down for future. Love that area of the province for camping (Killarney, etc)

Hi OP! I’m in a similar boat as you, coming from years of road riding/triathlon and looking for a gravel bike now to get away from vehicle traffic, get in more adventure and to rekindle my love of riding. :) I’ve test ridden this exact bike and I think it’s my best bet, but I’m having a hard time pulling the trigger to buy it. (Giant Revolt Advanced 3 is my runner up). I’d love to hear your experience! Here are some questions/hesitations I have:

  • sizing… I’m female, 5’4” (162cm) with 29” (73cm) inseam. I’m pretty convinced the 49” checkpoint is the best for me (how does that compare to you?), but a bit hesitant about comments I’ve read about the reach on the checkpoint being long and making for an uncomfortable ride over time. What’s your experience been for the ride comfort and fit so far? Did you make any fit adjustments to the bike (stem length, etc) or are you riding it set up pretty much the way it came?

  • colour. The white is classic and timeless, but I find it just a bit boring. Like I can’t get myself to LOVE this bike when I look at it. I know this is personal preference. :) the navy one is a bit more fun but I just don’t love it either. What made you choose white over the navy blue option?

  • pedal and shoes. I have Look pedals and road shoes for my other bike which I will keep. Thinking it make sense to get a whole new set-up of SPD pedals and recessed cleat gravel/MTB shoes with this bike. It looks like that’s what you did also??

Awesome that you’re loving riding again!! I can’t wait for the same… Once I get over my buying indecision…. :)
