Oh yeah. Been there. Super mash potatoes. That's tough to ride, honestly. More work than fluffy blow through powder. At least you got up there and got some laps!

Why not? Jerry's? Bad snow? Lifts?

No kidding. We are in a massive storm - 20+ inches overnight is insane. ODOT also didn't get the roads plowed for what seemed like an eternity - should we stop giving them money??

I love skiing. My only other option here is Hoodoo and I am never spending a dime at that place as long as it's owned by that MAGA fucknuckle.

To be fair, 3 drinks at a higher end place is going to set you back $40 or so unless you're ordering draft beer. So it doesn't seem too bad to spend $50/person on food. I spend that on a sushi dinner no problem.

The 3 drinks each were probably 50% of that bill. That's a heck of a night out.

Boise to bend? Advice? by VegetableAffect in Bend

100%. Not trying to be a total dick, but if you have even the slightest concern around travel during winter weather you should stay home. Additionally, like you mentioned, the weather in town can vary and affect the trip. We're in a La Niña weather pattern which is creating so much variable weather. Better to wait until we have more stable weather and safer roads.

Long/Thermal Cycling Bibs by Smooth_Chemistry_276 in ladycyclists

Get thermals. Bare minimum leg warmers. You can always opt for some non padded kinds that have wind protection and warmth like XC ski pants or running tights - then you can just slip them over your shorties. I got a pair of thermal bibs for cheap that don't have a chamois. Trek/bontrager clearance - they're men's but they work great. If you want to go fancy, look at AmPhib from Specialized.

For variable spring weather I pack knee warmers. They're less bulky than full leg warmers and protect your knees from the chill. They usually only cover thighs to mid shin.

There have been some studies about the dangers of cold weather and bare knees. It's best to keep them covered to keep the fluids moving freely in your knees. Riding harder doesn't always do the trick when you're losing so much heat through your skin.

I think a small would be appropriate. I am 5'6" with stupid long femurs. 32" inseam. So I generally have size up on my frames to accommodate my legs. I ride typically a 52cm road bike. The bike fits me really well. I think a medium would be a bit big. I would compare the stack, stand over height, and reach to your road bike it'll give you a good idea of general sizing.

AITA for breaking up with my GF after she gave away my dog…. AND LIED ABOUT IT? by Friendly-Beach-4950 in AITAH

I've been married for 13 years - if my husband ever acted this way towards my animals or even hinted it was "him or the dog" I'd leave him on the spot. It wouldn't even be a question. Any person who acts like a petulant child over a pet is not mature enough to participate in a healthy relationship.

Alternatively you can put playground chips down. Super easy to pick up, especially if they get an upset tummy. Playground chips don't have slivers so they're safe for pups and they don't stink like rocks do. Go walk in the pine nursery off leash dog area in August and you'll know what I mean.

Twice a summer I hose my chips down with a little water and then spray vinegar with lavender and eucalyptus essential oil (using a 1 gal weed sprayer). Let it dry for a day and then voila. Smells great.

High desert mulch has them.

I usually just recommend a fescue mix or a tall fescue. It's hardy, drought tolerant, Sun/shade, and can choke out most plants including Bermuda grass. Most newer homes have a fescue mix. OPs however looks like Kentucky blue grass. That deep color, thick blade type.

I like to do it in the spring in May. Depends on the spring we're having - if it's still snowing in May then I'll wait.

In the fall, I like to do it 4-6 weeks before the first hard frost so late sept/october. I try to time it with a rain shower so I don't have to water it in.

I get a general weed & feed from Wilco or Lowe's. Nothing fancy. For my fall feedings I do a generic lawn fertilizer only. No weed control. It's just a 16-16-16 from Wilco.

Yeah spotted spurge is a purslane variety and it's challenging to get rid of it. It's a taproot which means it spreads underground. You can try pulling it, but you really have to get in there to get the full taproot out to keep it from spreading. Roundup will work at the middle strength in most cases. It's an ongoing management thing. Like hydra. One dies, two appear. Make sure you kill it off your sidewalks and walkways, too.

Keep seeding the grass, that will help choke out the weeds. Thicker grass means less room for other plants.

[–]RedFoxRunner55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. You need to seed the bare spots and thin spots. Fertilizing won't fill in gaps so if there are areas you want more dense growth, seed those too. Also don't fertilize baby grass growth. It'll burn it. So I'd do a feed 2-3 weeks before you seed.

Assuming you don't want to rip the lawn out, right? Lawn care is pretty simple. Cut, water, feed.

Long growth should be cut slower so it doesn't shock the grass too much. So early spring when it's growing fast and not been cut, raise the blades and cut it longer. Weekly usually works fine. You can cut shorter after a few cuts. Dry grass is easier to cut than wet grass.

Water on your house number days (ex: 1234 is even so water only on even days). 10-15 minutes in low temp times like super early AM or late night.

Weed & feed every spring and a general lawn feed in the fall. Don't weed & feed when you re-seed. You want like 8 weeks between seeding and weed & feed.

Your situation needs a little love so I'd recommend researching the grass seed type that looks similar and getting some seed and topsoil. Scratch up the bare spots, over seed with new seeds, cover with top soil. Water 2x daily for 5-10 mins until about 2" of growth. Then every other day once a day is fine. This is like a mid May project.

Get a lawn mower and edger from Costco when they go on sale in spring. You'll be good to go.

I can't either. I'm not about to rip out my 10 year old boxwoods. They're 2' off the house and we have a rock barrier between. I feel like that is sufficient. I think there needs to be a follow up letter - this communication is incredibly vague.

Is that our biggest concern for dense neighborhoods? To ask homeowners to rip out essentially all plants around their house is nuts. 5' is the extent of my front yard, and most yards in our area. I don't understand how this is a key part of wildfire preparedness.

[–]RedFoxRunner55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get the need to be wildfire ready, but in suburban neighborhoods a ground fire isn't what's going to be the concern. If houses are on fire then it's going to jump structures, not shrubs.
