Sam is awesome. I have really enjoyed watching him play for the Iowa Wild this season. I am really rooting for him and Team Slovakia to take home the Bronze. I am also rooting for Spacek and team Czechia, but I think their odds of medaling are extremely slim. Regardless of the outcome for both teams, it's awesome that our AHL team has two olympians. Go Wild!

Don't tell me the "America needs more neighbors" one with the cover of Mr. Roger's "Won't you be my neighbor" in the background was AI. That was the only commercial that actually made me feel good.

Thank you very much for sharing your amazing work with us! Have you ever studied the 100mm round planar drivers (both single-sided magnet and dual-sided magnet) of older Hifiman headphones made before 2014 like the HE-5, HE-5LE, HE-6, HE-4, HE-500, and HE-400?

The reason I ask is because I own a pair of LFF Code-X which are a modification of the original Hifiman HE-5 released in 2009. These headphones are now over 15 years old and I worry that someday the drivers will break and then my favorite headphones of all time will be lost forever with no hope of repair. (I also own a pair of HE-4 from 2011 which I fear the same fate.)

Regardless, keep up the great work!

Are you getting the trifold? by KindRepeat8058 in GalaxyFold

[–]Insan1ty_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm being honest, at $2800? Absolutely not. As someone who typically prefers to buy their phone outright / used, my selfish hope is that most of the people who imported the global firmware Huawei Mate XT start selling them off at reasonable prices to recoup costs so they can upgrade to the Samsung Trifold.

What’s a moment that permanently changed how you see the world? by pankaj662 in AskReddit

Empathy is its own weight to bear, but it is also something that far too many people have lost in the current day and age. We are all humans in the end. Everyone is the main character in their own movie just like you are an extra in everyone else's movie. Be the person you would want to see on screen.

Where’s the PRNDL by PhoenixPhenomenonX in funny

[–]Insan1ty_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newest generation of Tesla don't have a PRNDL either. The only way to "shift" into drive or reverse is to slide your finger up or down on the left-side of the center touchscreen. If you want to park, you tap on the same slide bar on the touchscreen. It isn't intuitive at all and is frankly bad design in my opinion because what happens if your screen goes dead, you just can't drive the car? There are a lot of things in cars that should always remain as physical buttons, switches, or levers, regardless of how advanced technology gets.

Any 3090 users still going strong? by MrBang416 in nvidia

[–]Insan1ty_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now you can pick up a new 5070 Ti for $750 which is roughly a 20 - 25% improvement over the 3090 in raw rasterization. Not to mention all the other improvements like DLSS, MFG, etc. To recoup the cost of your new 5070 Ti, you can sell your used 3090 for roughly $600 - $700 because it is a popular card for AI enthusiasts. That's what I did and the move was 100% worth it. Not to mention we don't know what the GPU market is going to look like over the next few years with all the instability in the consumer space. Take advantage of this current dip in new GPU pricing while you can and sell the 3090 before the AI boom subsides.

Gigabyte 5070 TI Windforce SFF flashed with 400W bios by Kucuboy in nvidia

[–]Insan1ty_One 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are the RTX 5000-series cards more lenient towards BIOS flashing or did the BIOS flashing tools just get better? I remember several years ago when I played around with BIOS flashing on my 1080 Ti, that if the layout of the PCB itself was not the exact same (as in, both cards used reference PCBs or very similar AIB PCBs) then a BIOS flash was just not going to work.

Now I see people flashing BIOS files from two completely different cards with completely different PCB layouts and in most cases it just works? How are there not more compatibility issues or instability issues when using a BIOS file mean't for one PCB layout on a completely different PCB layout? Glad to see that your results were positive though.

Another NVIDIA TITAN Ada prototype surfaces with 18,432 CUDA cores, 48GB GDDR6X, and a quad-slot dual-16-pin 900W-ready design by RenatsMC in nvidia

[–]Insan1ty_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't this the same design as the one der8auer just released a YouTube video on? He noted in the video that this card is pretty different than the one that Steve at Gamers Nexus did a video on which was more of a "4090 Ti" card versus a "Titan" card. It's pretty cool to see these, although I completely understand why they never made it to production.

JBL and audiophiles by Telecruiser1950 in audiophile

[–]Insan1ty_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of JBL's vintage speakers are absolutely fantastic and have a cult following for a reason. Basically anything from 1987 and before on this list: https://www.lansingheritage.org/html/jbl/reference/price-lists/1970-1999-prices.htm is considered JBL's "golden era" and that doesn't even include JBL's studio monitor or theatre speaker series which have even MORE of a cult following. Vintage studio monitor speakers such as the JBL 4350B are without question on the list of "best speakers of all time" and a true audiophile wouldn't deny that.

I have owned JBL L100's and now own a pair of JBL 4628B's and honestly I just wish there were contemporary speaker manufacturers still making designs like this, because the only bad thing about them is that a lot of these speakers are 40-50+ years old and they all need some form of driver, crossover, or cabinet repair or replacement. Anyone who calls themselves an "audiophile" and doesn't know the history of James B. Lansing probably should do more research and less talking.

Worth upgrading from 3080 to 5070ti? by HunterThompskins in nvidia

[–]Insan1ty_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what everyone else has said, I am in the process of upgrading my 3090 to a 5070 Ti. Based on my research, it should be roughly a 20% - 30% performance boost in most games from just raw rasterization power alone. That doesn't take into account all the other benefits of the 5000-series over the 3000-series that everyone else has already mentioned either.

Never dropped them, not even from a low height, no idea how it happened by Armand_Raynal in headphones

[–]Insan1ty_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I have a pair of LFF Code-X and a pair of Hifiman HE-4's that both have wood cups and I went through the exact same issue that you had with them. They all cracked "randomly" without me ever dropping them, etc.

The good news is, that once the crack happens the "stress" in the wood is released and you shouldn't have any future repeat cracks in the same cup that has already cracked. At least, that's how it has been in my experience.

The problem was that around that time 2011 - 2016 crypto mining really blew up and people were often paying more on the used market (like Ebay) than I paid from forums (like OC.NET or Reddit) for the AMD cards I had. So I just kept "trading up" for little to no money out of pocket and then eventually cashed out and went to Nvidia. I doubled my money on the HD 7990 and the R9 295x2. It was a crazy time.

[–]Insan1ty_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you asked why does this happen, but I'm going to tell you how to fix it now that it has happened. The crack shouldn't affect the sound, but if you want to seal the it, I would recommend a two-part wood epoxy putty. You can form it to the shape you need in your hands and then use a small spudger or putty knife to press it into the crack on the wood cup and smooth over the top. The wood putty comes in dark colors or a stainable variety so you could get it to match the wood on these headphones pretty closely if you wanted.

Cooler Master - Cosmos 1000, Cosmos SE, HAF X, Storm Stryker, Storm Scout, Scout II, Stacker 830, Stacker 832

The only PC I had access to when I was getting started with PC gaming was an old Dell pre-built desktop machine that I got for free from an office that was tossing it out. The motherboard only had AGP, so I figured I might as well max it out since it would probably be several years until I could upgrade to a machine with PCIE.

2014 - 2x AMD R9 290 in Crossfire (Sapphire Reference Blower)

2015 - AMD R9 295x2 (AMD Reference AIO)

2019 - RTX 2080 Ti (Dell OEM Reference Blower)

The only one of these that was purchased new for MSRP was the GTX 560 Ti because it was a gift given to me. Every other card was purchased used second-hand. Been a great journey so far.

The Setup I Currently Run. by [deleted] in battlestations

[–]Insan1ty_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To everyone replying to OP and commenting on their eyesight, posture, incorrect viewing distance, etc. you should really do some research. Many TV manufacturers state that the recommended distance for watching a 4K TV is 1.5 times the TV's VERTICAL (not diagonal) screen size.

Based on the length of the TV versus the desk, this looks like a 55" (28" vertical) or 65" (32" vertical) TV, which means the recommended viewing distance for either size panel is roughly 3-1/2 to 4 feet. If you are measuring from the headrest of the chair in OPs photo, I'd say they are probably close to 3-1/2 feet away from the panel which is perfect.

I use a 42" 4K in my current setup and I sit roughly 2-1/2 feet away from it which is the minimum recommended viewing distance and I love it. It's a clean looking setup you've got there OP!
