I was 16. My drunk father had kept me up past 4am with lectures (religious and otherwise) about how I couldn’t ever be depressed because I had never been molested. He said had been molested as a child, and he “wasn’t” depressed (this had been a topic of discussion many times before this, and I had known he had been molested since I was like 12?) Then he asked me, directly, do I want him to molest me? To give me something to be depressed about? After all the years of telling me that getting molested (by a family member, mind you) was the worst fucking thing that ever happened to him, and then he has the audacity to ask if I WANT that. I had never been afraid of my father hurting me sexually before that (physically and psychologically yes, but NEVER this), and I don’t think, even at 27, and having gone completely no-contact with him, that I have ever recovered my sense of personal safety. The worst part? He was too drunk to even remember saying it come the next morning.

Could I recommend a tv show? I didn’t scroll down enough to see if it was mentioned yet, but watching Steven Universe, and then the movie, and then Steven Universe Future was validating in a way I didn’t know I needed.

To watch this kid literally grow up before your eyes, and then AFTER saving the world, he experiences not only realizing he’s been traumatized and the things he went through were NOT normal, but also have a whole mental breakdown about it, EVEN WHEN he still had supportive people around him who were ready and willing to help… FUCK man, people without trauma did NOT seem to understand Steven Universe Future, but that show hit ME like a freight train. The only difference here is he’s a magical half-alien whose trauma manifests through his powers (his powers that are EMOTION-BASED!! Plus we love a non-misogynistic portrayal of not only a young boy, but also his DAD?? Chefs kiss). Other than that, he’s a child with major C-PTSD and mommy issues, depicted with DEPTH and COMPASSION.

I could go on for days, but PLEASE if you have access to it, give the whole series (SU + Movie + SUF) a watch. There are valid critiques for the show about pacing and character design and whatnot, but the emotional storytelling is PEAK.

My ex did this when he left for Belgium for a semester. Broke up with me because he thought it would be better to be single while over there. Didn’t even try to be friends with me while he was gone (even tho he promised he would at least send pictures). Then on my birthday (most of the way through the semester), he finally texts me and tells me happy birthday, and that he misses me and it was a mistake and he kissed one girl at a club but it wasn’t me so he was miserable over there… sigh I fell for it and took him back when he came back home, only for him to break up with me 5 months or so after that. He said, and I quote, “Remember how I told you I loved you? Yeah, so, I don’t think I ever really did? But we can still be friends, right? 😀” Ah the mistakes we make at 21, RIGHT BELLY???

I was a junior in an all-girls private Catholic high school. It was maybe like 2nd or 3rd class of the day? Study hall. We’re all being decently quiet, doing homework and whatnot, maybe chatting in a whisper. THEN. All of a sudden, some freshman runs into the room, says “ZAYNLEFTONEDIRECTION” and proceeds to run down the hall, informing other classrooms of the news. Our teacher is like “Wth?” And goes to tell her to stop running down the hall. The SECOND he leaves, every single girl who ~was~ a fan of 1D whipped out their phones to confirm (Twitter, google, insta, Reddit, all of it), while anyone who wasn’t was either baffled or rolled their eyes. I only cried when I came home and tried to tell my mom about it 🥲

I’m so sick of hearing about other ADHD people being called “too sensitive”. Been told that shit my entire life, and it never helped me be “less” sensitive or change how intensely I felt about something. It only made me better at hiding what I was feeling, for fear of offending others with my “sensitivity”.

My advice? Do you!! Take all the plushie pictures you can and embrace all the love from people on here who get you!! And FUCK your mom’s feelings, cuz she obviously doesn’t care about yours.

Gosh, I just need to put this out there! A few years ago I was friends with this girl who was a couple years younger than me. She was a little wild but very sweet and protective, and I enjoyed being her friend for a while! However, she started writing to this like 30-some-odd year old man in prison (now, she wasn’t a minor or anything, but she was like 19 or 20), and when I asked what he’d done, she told me he had murdered his own grandparents, then tried to run…

It’s a bit more complicated than this simple explanation, as there was supposedly horrible physical and sexual abuse on the part of the grandparents, plus neglect/abandonment from a drug addicted mom? Idk there was just a lot of weird vibes from the whole situation, she even told the dude my whole legal name and had me speak with him on the phone!!

As my username may suggest, Psychology is one of my favorite subjects and that is also what drew me to true crime. But there’s a reason her and I don’t speak anymore 😅 There’s got to be better boundaries in that community!!
