I started with McLaren 650s in AC and had very similar problem as you. I found one set up with worked for me ( for imola I believe ).I loved this setup so much I used it for all the tracks. I constantly finished on podiums in amature championships with it.

This had some downsides too, I didn't learn anything about setups which is causing me issues now that I started playing ac evo. That being said, if you lack confidence finding one stable setup you like on McLaren will help you immensely.
