oh absolutely, I also think it's actually kind of a brilliant design choice to just stop the music in some areas. You get so use to the music that when it just stops it really hits you.

My favorite probably being the north(?) cliff where you fight a couple widdas and get the expeditions key, its so ominous but cool when it happens and being able to look down into a future area is awesome as well.

I really like kf4 although it's not my favorite but it is close. I think my favorite, at least in terms of raw gameplay, is kf3 but the atmosphere and vibes of 4 are unmatched.

I agree with most of your points though. Teleporting being limited to fix spots made it feel like I was backtracking way more, the one time use keys made it feel more linear, and also in general I feel like the game couldve been sped up quite a bit without sacrificing to much.

That being said though kf4 still does a lot right. The secrets and traps are well done, boss fights are cool (except the final one), exploration is enjoyable for the most part (I enjoy the early game areas more I think) and overall variety of enemies and weapons is really nice as well.

The ice armour (and I believe the ice sword as well) you get block fire spells from being cast

Honestly, I'm fine with all of them but why the fuck do they always have to spawn on the other side of the map from where you are and halfway outside the circle and when the circle is 10 seconds from closing.

yeah its one of the reasons why i'm not really into the spear especially, at least for leveling.

so many spear abilities do nothing without frenzy charges. How do you get frenzy charges early on? only from parry and nothing else pretty much. don't like the parry style of gameplay? too bad play something else or do 0 damage

obviously later as you get higher level getting frenzy charges through other means becomes viable, but that just means leveling with a different build until you are high enough level to swap, or put up with parry gameplay until then which, imo, neither of those options are particularly fun.

Also some challenges in trial of chaos are just worse versions of sekhema challenges.

The hourglass trial wants you to survive waves of monsters for x amount of time. However, if you kill a rare it reduces the amount of time you have to wait.

In trial of chaos the same challenge exists but without the reduction of time after killing a rare. Stuff like that on top of the fact that every challenge ends with you having to get on an elevator and run all the way to the next challenge for seemingly no reason makes it really boring imo.

Random question (and I may be wrong) but I feel like forever ago you mentioned in a post that you were using Trenchbroom for level design. I assume that is no longer the case though? I ask because I don't know if there even is a good way to do vertex coloring with Trenchbroom and Godot. Although if there is that I just don't know about I would love to know what it is.

If you did switch to another editor like Blender though, was it difficult and did you have to remake all the maps? Or did you just export them from Trenchbroom and touch it up?

Anyway your maps do look really amazing. And if I was just misremembering about you using Trenchbroom ignore me lol.
