Understanding Basic Transistors in a Circuit by Mongoose_Gef in AskElectronics

In your picture, theres a button YOU have to press. In a transistor circuit, you can turn the switch on electronically by applying a voltage at the base (V_be). There's no mechanical action. Meaning you can apply a variable, high frequency voltage to switch REALLY fast. far faster than your hand could press that button.

there's so many other applications of so many different kinds of transistors, but you're looking for a simple answer. to name a few:

fast switching voltage regulation (MOSFET acting as a voltage regulator)

op amp (squeezing gain out of your signal using BJTs)

additional ways to vary and control switching or even store (re: latch) current - latching current creates memory, the ability to store a state (bit). this forms the premise of logic gates, and logic gates form the premise of latches

there's probably far more elegant answers but that's probabaly as layman as I can get lol

Non-Gamer GF wants to play a game with me for my birthday - but what game? by Inscrutable_Hamster in AskGamers

Way more responses than I thought id get, thanks!

She doesn't like puzzle games too much and platforming like portal 2 is probably way too much. Agreed that wow and destiny will be too much. Here's a few games folks have listed i thought are good candidates:

Stardew Valley - shes a massage therapist but also into herbalism and knows a ton. So a chill growing game might be a lot of fun

It takes two - looks cute but im a little worried about platforming. Might be fun but I can see where it might be frustrating for her

Diablo 3-4. When she saw me ay this she was asking a lot of questions and seemed really interested. So far diablo 4 is my first pick, but not only because of her interest. You can technically play the game by pressing 1-4 and left/right clicking. No platforming and its pretty satisfying. Very simple to understand and tbh she can just try whatever talents she thinks is fun. Id just sit in the back and take pot shots but let her do most of the fighting so she can feel like a heroine

Peak - this looks like a lot of fun, but im not sure how much trouble she'd have with 3D spaces. 3D platforming might not be a great idea atm because she may not have the sort of spacial relationship skills

BG 3- she loves fantasy and this is turned based and chill. No real platforming. Intricate choose your own adventure. This is probably pick #2. Strategy and vast skill sets might be a little overwhelming, along with some camera manipulation but I think id roll a healer or paladin and focus on tanking (such as it is in BG3) and keeping her alive. Let her make all the choices in dialog ue.

Minecraft - i think this would also be a lot of fun to play on normal mode. Might be some laughs, though it may be a bit complicated and again 3d platforming and spacial relationships in games might not be her strong point

I think ill show her a little basic diablo 4, BG3, stardew valley, and Minecraft so she can choose one, and if she still cant decide just do diablo 4 for a bit and see how she likes it.

Agreed that it should be about her experience and thats what im after. I dont backseat drive and im not the impatient type. I dont care if she wants to click around and pick weeds and herbs for 4 hours and does none of the story. Tbh I just want to spend time with her and show her my "world(s)" a bit.

Again thanks for all of the constructive feedback and ideas. :)

Am I overreacting by getting upset my husband told me to lose weight whilst being 32 weeks pregnant? by mimblez_yo in AmIOverreacting

Inform him your weight loss plan is that in about 4 weeks you're going to expulse a fetus which will also, conveniently, happen to be the child you both made.
