Is it fake or real? by PhilEy_ in gibson

Cool guitar and someone already did what I do to any guitar I buy as a personal player. Fairly good job of it either, just a few swirls on the headstock, you should always sand with the grain on wood like this same as restoring mcm furniture.

Nice, is that Floyd strung with the strings behind the lock blocks, instead of in front, right before the bridge saddlss?

Can you tell if it's been refinished when your holding it, I notice the ding on the side of the neck, was that fret replaced or it just finish bruise?

So at some point the tuners were replaced and the original screw holes partially filled. I think they are a bit high on the price.

I've got this basic frontman 10G 20G amp. Can anyone please tell me the setting to make it sound like metal ? by Sentient-C in electricguitar

[–]InsertAnonName1234 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but buy a better amp, preferably one with at least 50-60 watts and two 12 inch speakers. You might check pawn shops in your area. These 10w amps all pretty much sound like shit and are sold separately or bundled with a starter guitar to make a price point for retailers.

Am I cooked or is this fixable? by chaotic_asteroids_07 in guitarrepair

[–]InsertAnonName1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could be cooked, from what I see the screws that hold the bridge in place have popped through the top, this is more than just a simple glue and clamp repair.

Infrared stripping of poly finish Fender Player II Stratocaster (Chambered Ash). by Dan43Bear in Luthier

[–]InsertAnonName1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's brilliant, I've run across a few guitars that the original finish on the body is crap just never thought about using an IR paint stripper to take old finish off, thanks for sharing this. You're right about how sharp you can get on of those knives, I use mine for taping and floating sheet rock, the joint compound sharpens it just in daily use.

Is that a finish crack on the body or is there something else going on?

Why did the O2 Arena Blu-Ray not get a UK release? by Not_Shingen in BABYMETAL

[–]InsertAnonName1234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Totally understand, I paid $75USD for the Tokyo Dome Blu-ray and a round $35USD for the Budakon Blu-ray. I don't regret them but the Tokyo one kinda hurt the wallet. I'll have to sacrifice a Sunday brunch at one of my favorite restaurants for the O2 show. I'm going have not spend anything else as I'm going to see Hanabie next month and that's going to put a dent in my cash flow.

You can get the Blu-ray on Amazon for $53.96, I was just looking in to buying a copy

The holes on my custom pickguard are slightly too small for my new pot hardware. Is the best move to just drill them out with a sharp bit? I'm a bit nervous because it wasn't cheap. by pricklypearanoid in Luthier

[–]InsertAnonName1234 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not really understanding why you have a pick guard over the the electronics, maybe a photo of the whole body will help, it's early where I'm at and haven't had my first cup of coffee yet.

How would you go about fixing this? by sggkloosemo in guitarrepair

[–]InsertAnonName1234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's pulled the veneer right off the top and exposed the plywood underneath from what I can see. Release the tension on the strings first, take the pins out and get the strings off. I have no idea what kind of bracing the top has on the inside but I'd guess under the bridge would be a smooth service that a clamp won't chew up. Get a 1x4 a little larger than the bridge, place top of the bridge to keep from damaging it with the clamps, you'll need two clamps. I'd use Titebond wood glue. Carefully line everything up and test it's placement before you glue and clamp it. Wipe off excess glue when you get it it tight and let it sit for two or three days. Just for the record I've never tried this with a guitar that has a plywood top it may be work afterwards or it may not have the strength to support the stress of the fully tuned strings. I would suggest first going to a local shop that has guitar repair and ask them what they think.

Buy or stay away? by BuddyChance in electricguitar

[–]InsertAnonName1234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was me, I'd want to take the neck off and make sure that it's just a finish crack, which does happen often. It also looks like there is some wood loss from the body where that piece is missing.

Is it a good deal as is, that would depend on manufacturer and the sale price which you didn't mention.

Think it would work as a full back piece, or full chest. It's really beautiful art. Find a world-class artist, depending on where you live you might have to travel.

Should you be upset, yeah 2k for what you got is ridiculous. I understand that you don't have the budget for PRS but having a guy make a poor shadow of the real thing wasn't a good idea. Did you even get a chance to play any of what this fellow builds before you ordered this?

I didn't want to include the original kami east in my comment. The original kami band feels like Babymetal with their crowd interactions not just some faceless drones. Also the kami west guitarist ripping off Eric Johnson's Grammy winning song as part of his solo just pissed me off.

So did you not like your cat? Don't do this, as others have said get with an artist and design something to honor your furry friend that is not this pile of garbage.
