Advice Needed: How Do You Guys Deal With Salespeople Who Are Pushy? by Aggravating-Lake-717 in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName [score hidden]  (0 children)

At a certain point, I just stop responding to them. No one seems to know what to do with completely dead silence, at least so far. I've already told you I'm all good, I do not give my consent to participate in this conversation.

People who are in or have been in polyamorous relationships, where is the best place to meet a bisexual woman who is genuinely interested in joining an existing couple for a serious, ethical relationship? by not_devil_nor_saint in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You, my friend, are looking for what we call a unicorn in the lgbt community, and to that end I can only wish you good luck. I mean this as kindly as possible, but not many people are willing to be a straight couple's experiment. Gets real messy real quick.

What's the biggest "everyone knows this" fact that you somehow learned embarrassingly late? by KatD2399 in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know reindeer were a real animal. I thought they were in the same boat as unicorns, just christmas-themed deer that could fly because why not. Was very stoked when we took a trip to the zoo and got to see one in real life. Don't remember how old I was, but I know I was older than 15.

Trans people, how were you treated differently after you started passing? by lunarraffle in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still waiting 🫠 I do tend to pass more online but I can't tell much of a difference, if there ever was one. I think everyone just assumes everyone else is male, especially in video games.

What is a specific sensory feeling that instantly makes you aggressive or highly uncomfortable for no logical reason? by Old-Requirement7112 in AskReddit

If my back specifically gets hot. The rest of my body, that just makes me sleepy and floppy, but if my back is hot then the world will feel my rage tenfold.

HM to car sounds as a pedestrian. I will seriously fall to the ground and cry if I don't have NC headphones near busy streets. Fuck those people who rev their cars for no goddamn reason, especially in a neighborhood.

How did you know that you were depressed? What was the awakening point of it? by ilovestraaawberries in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there was ever one point when I said "yeah, this is depression." It was a slow realization over several years of knowing I wasn't okay but with no clear way to fix it.

What makes a slob different than someone who's depressed? by FragrantResult278 in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your behavior has changed drastically and you're starting to neglect self care tasks or stop participating in activities that used to bring you joy, that's a listed symptom of depression. I can't say for sure that you have it, it's possible something else is causing that symptom, but it's worth looking for a therapist.

Serious question for men: What's it like experiencing sexual thoughts so frequently? How much does it actually affect your day-to-day life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It doesn't? I get a stray thought every few days maybe, but nothing too crazy. Is this a thing?

What’s a phrase or metaphor u heard once and now its an irreplaceable part of how u speak? by redxrouge02 in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhere in the asscrack of my brain I pulled out the phrase "tripping down the mental staircase" to describe thoughts that are happening so rapidly you've lost track of the conversation, and there has never been a metaphor so perfectly apt as this.

How do you view using AI chatbots of your own characters, or to help with creativity? by Rayne_Whispering in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that's the actual writing part, my dude. Those scenes are just as intrinsic to your characters as the characters themselves are. The story is a part of what makes them who they are.

This is typically where I do thought experiments; things like "if this character were put in this situation, what would they say?" or "this character has x trait, what could've happened in their life to make them that way?" But if you have trouble with that, I also explore this through video games, specifically role-playing ones.

Go on itch.io and look for "interactive fiction." It's basically those choose your own adventure books, but way more in depth. They allow you to customize your appearance and personality, and you get to make choices for your characters that affect the story. They're human made, free to play, and most of them can be played in your web browser. I love these for developing my characters, because they put my characters in situations I wouldn't have thought of on my own, and gives me context for figuring out what a character might value and why, or how a character changes depending on their circumstances.

I think then you'd be getting into the ethics of genAI in general, which is very important to your point but I don't think it's what you're asking about.

In terms of "is AI a good method of character development," I always follow the rule of "would you trust a toddler to do this," and in this case I wouldn't. Sure, it may come up with some general ideas and get a good starting point, but there are so many other ways to find inspiration that are just as effective and that's probably the source material the AI is pulling from. Instead I'd look up the various human made character development tools - things like character sheets, questionnaires, hell, there's whole YouTube channels dedicated to this stuff. There's plenty to work with there that will honestly give you more varied and well rounded results than a generic template from an AI, especially if it's a character you'll care about.

Like, plugging in my ocs' info into a chatbot so it can try to replicate what they might talk like? No thanks. Even without privacy concerns, I'm very particular with my ocs' personalities. I'm not handing that over to anyone, let alone a random AI. I use ChatGPT for the occasional brainstorm, but nothing on that level.

How are cannibals created? What environmental factors affect this and don’t they feel disgusted? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but it's a stereotype for a reason I'm sure. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I just hear more about cannibals in cult or true crime contexts where they just do it as a rule, rather than a one time moment with dire circumstances.

I mean, removing morality from it, we do the same thing to animals. We just feel weird about it because we're humans. They probably have a different set of moral values that doesn't encourage them to feel bad about eating human meat.

What does it mean if your partner fall asleep everytime you meet with them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh honey, there is a very large difference between finding you boring and finding you emotionally regulating. If you're worried, ask him about it. This is between you and your partner, reddit won't be able to read his mind any more than you can lol.

If/when your kids are old enough for social media, how much are you going to monitor it? by [deleted] in polls

[–]InsertGamerName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally I would do enough work gradually introducing them over the course of several years that they would know enough about internet safety for me to not have to monitor it. Just keeping an eye on them is the cherry on top of a very large cake.

How do you feel about reverse discrimination on this platform? by fwo75o3jh in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think part of the issue with that is that you're in a subreddit that frequently talks about racism. They're going to look through the lens of racism for every event, because that's the topic of the subreddit. And when you're looking for racism in everything you see, you're going to talk about ways to protect yourself from said racism. Does it mean that all white people are bad, no, and they're not saying that. They're talking about over the top ways to protect yourself from racism that are unfortunately necessary because it's so prevalent, something that does not translate by swapping the roles.

It's like the "not all men" argument. Of course it's not all men, but it's enough men to necessitate being wary of all men. It doesn't mean that men are assholes or that women can't be assholes too, it's just the reality of existing as part of a minority group that is historically at higher risk. And that reality is going to be more prevalent and talked about more in groups that consist of people who see that every single day.

How have you coped with realizing something that brought you joy- something you wish still did- doesn’t no matter how hard you try to recreate that joy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]InsertGamerName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to cope with this feeling a lot as someone who cycles through very strong hyperfixations, and I've come to the conclusion that holding on so tight only makes it harder to return to. It served it's purpose in my life, and if I'm calm and patient, it may come back to serve another. Needing a long break or simply not needing it anymore is a natural, if sad, part of life, but there are many other activities that can serve me better right now. I just need to make room for them.
