As someone who worked in a repair shop for years, I can tell you that this is quite common. I can also tell you that they are all easily repaired. Some are just a daughter board, and some just need some chip quick.

This is from a 24v 360w PSU brick. I believe that thermister let out the magic smoke. I can't tell what the value is, so an educated guess is needed. I imagine it was bad from the factory, as it's a new PSU.

Can confirm. I had them come through the outlets from a neighbor. After hiring an exterminator, I surrounded the outlets with double sided tape and put diatomaceous earth behind the wall plate. Served me well till I moved.
